NB: depending on the ages of the children, some or all of these activities may need to be done in a seated position. This program is designed to give children a 'taste' of our fitness program. Warm ups The Stretching Song (1) Nice stretches to wake our bodies. Let's listen very closely and do all the actions together Follow the words in this song and direct the children to copy you. This is my Show me your right hand (put up your left hand if you are facing them in a mirror image) - show me your left foot..." This is a fun song and all the children love the line "don't you forget it" so make the most of it Music tells you what to do Medium length warm up 2 mins Ride my Bike Use this song as background music as you lay back on the floor and 'ride your bike'. "Ok everyone let's lay back - make sure there is nothing to hit your head on - and show me how you can ride your bike." You may choose to do this a couple of times as it is very short. Stretching song 2 This is another example of following the instructions in the song. "OK everyone let's get ready to do our warm up stretches." Ask the children who can stand to do so otherwise do adapt the stretches to do in a seated position. Music tells you what to do Medium length warm up 2 mins 3

Cardio guide Running on the spot Who likes running? We are all going to build good hearts by running on the spot! Let s go! Very quick and cute...be sure to repeat on your midi twice at least Lots of jumping, stamping, running on the spot etc. Music tells you what to do The gummy bear song I know a song about a very funny bear - it is a gummy bear... Do you know what a Gummy Bear does?... Act like a Gummy bear Stamp, bounce, hop, be jelly like, rub your tummy i.e. yummy, pretend to eat someone Adapt the song for the age group - you may need to only do a verse and chorus Shake my sillies out We need to get moving - can you do some shaking... let's shake all our sillies out" I m gonna shake, shake, shake my sillies out Shake, shake, shake my sillies out (x 2) Wiggle my waggles away. I'm gonna jump, jump, jump my jiggles out etc. I'm gonna nod my naughties out Wibble, wobble, wibble my wobblies out 4

Actions follow the words of the song. Adapt the actions to the age group you are working with Running Race "Running is so much fun - we don't run inside but we can tip toe very fast. Let's do that together now." Tip toe on the spot or around in a circle If you are in a circle then run one way and then the other If you are doing this sitting down children can move their legs and swing their arms as if they are running. Balance and Core Hop like a kangaroo Who knows how to hop like a kangaroo? or maybe fly like a cockatoo, walk like an old emu or even... slither like a snake! Hop like a kangaroo (jump around or if seated move upper body to simulate a jumping action) walk like an old emu (hold one arm up for the neck of the emu) fly like a cockatoo (move arms in a flying motion) and slither like a snake (either crawl on the ground or use arms in a slithering motion) where the children are able, complete this song in an energetic manner discuss the actions before starting the song 5

Make a circle "I like to make huge circles - I can make them with my hands, my feet, my head. - show me how you make circles" Make a circle with your hand make a circle with your foot make a circle with your head then walk in a circle on the ground, on the ground walk in a circle on the ground. If the children are not mobile you can change the last line to "draw lots of circles in the air in the air draw lots of circles in the air" follow the words of the song make the circles clockwise and then anti clockwise - add kite tails or scarves as the weeks progress Monkey Race (Rock like a Monkey) What sound does a Monkey make? How does a Monkey walk? Like this (demo) but today we are going to do it with a bean bag :) (handout bean bag) Rock like a Monkey start with a walk and proceed to the race Be sure children are not hunched over (chest dropping) it is essential to maintain a somewhat upright position to achieve a low centre of gravity this on in the mirror before instructing children for correct posture 6

Mr Funny Feet "Show me where are your toes? Where are your heels? Where are the sides of your feet? I can use my feet to walk in lots of different ways - let's see if you can do it too... Just like Mr Funny Feet." First he walks upon his toes Then upon his heels he goes On the sides of his feet he goes clump, clump, clump With his feet together he goes jump, jump, jump REPEAT Get the children to identify the different parts of their feet If they are mobile walk around the room following the words of the song If they are not mobile, ask them to point to the different parts of their feet as you sing the song... stretching to their toes etc. Be well practiced Quickness and Agility Giddiap Horsey I am going to ride my horse - Giddiap" Giddiap, giddiap, giddiap horsey. Giddiap, giddiap, GO, GO GO! Giddiap, giddiap, giddiap horsey. Giddiap, giddiap, Whoa!!!!! Whoa!!!!!!! Repeat Gallop around the room first one week and then the other Place cones around the room to "gallop" around If children are not mobile you can pretend to ride a horse in a seated position 7

The Little red engine "OOH WOO - here comes a little red engine. All aboard everyone!!" The little red engine was chuffing along when he came to a great big hill he said I must chuff and never stop I will chuff, chuff, chuff til I reach the top I think I can, x 4 and he chuffed right over the hill Move around the room first one way and then the other rotating your arms beside your body in a "train movement" Weave amongst tables or cones as a progression If the children are not mobile act out the song in a seated position rotating your arms beside your body Munch and Stop (to the tune Clap and Stop) - hand eye coordination Look who I have here - yes it is a Koala.. and he is very hungry - what do you think he might like to eat? Yes leaves - eucalyptus leaves" Give each of the children a leaf and ask them to feed the koala. Feed the koala - MUNCH, MUNCH, MUNCH x 3 munch, munch, munch, munch and STOP You can use most any music as a background for this during the first week eg. Birds chirping In the following week you can add the anticipation of 'stopping'. Use Clap and stop. You have the option of singing the following words or just STOPPING when the music stops 8

Fun Element - Dancing/cheerleading to explore spatial awareness self-expression and creativity FUN, FUN, FUN and self-expression is the main goal here. Good listening skills and following directions are also being developed here but are merely a secondary achievement. By using the flash cards (see below) the children are learning both visually and verbally (auditory skills). By adding in a description, for example when the Hooray sign is used, tell children to jump up like a jack out of a box, the kinaesthetic skills (feeling and/or tactile skills) are also being developed. Only use perhaps 3 flashcards per cheerleading section and make the rest fun. Encourage the children to come up with moves and be sure to reward that child by getting the rest of the class to do that move. The sense of becoming, belonging and being can be really developed in the cheerleading section, which is vital to EYLF (Early years learning framework). :- Self-expression is the goal Development of verbal, auditory and kinaesthetic skills Using the POM POMS for the older children General dances for smaller children You can use the hey dee ho style songs and sing them as you move with the POM POMS or you can choose another song from the collection of Active 8 cheerleading songs. :- Self-expression is the goal Development of verbal, auditory and kinaesthetic skills Disco Left & Right 9

Get Ready & Little muscles High V & Low V Little wings & Big wings 10

Point left & right Pump it & Muscle Man Straight up & down 11

Cool downs Ask the children to lie on the floor and listen closely to the music. Talk about all the activities you did today re-cap the muscles we used and the aims/outcomes of each activity. Key Points:- Focus on breathing and stretching the muscles worked Be sure children are quiet Be sure children are calm before ending this track 'Birds Chirping' 'A place to Hide' 12
