1 Principal and Assistant Principal s Corner Dear OLPH Families, In this week s Old Testament Reading, the discussion is on wisdom, which is the opposite of sin. Then, in the Gospel Reading, Jesus counsels us to give up all our worldly possessions for the Kingdom of God, which the young ruler who asked Jesus the question did not want to hear and went away dejectedly. The young ruler embraced his fear of giving up all that he had here, instead of having trust and faith in what Jesus what saying. The first quarter will come to a close this Friday, and report cards will be sent out next week. There is noon dismissal on 10/19 for faculty professional development, and noon dismissal on both 10/ 25 and 10/26 for parent/ teacher conferences. The OLPH athletic fields and gym have been filled from Friday night on with all involved in CYO sports. All middle school sports seasons are wrapping up their regular season this week, and have done well upon the fields of friendly strife. Of special note is that the middle school soccer team will begin its playoff run next week. A parent reminded us that they were undefeated at home and had only one loss this season. The is the best record OLPH has had in soccer! 2 Dear Parents, News from the CDC The Selma Fire Department visited our students from K3-2nd grade last week and shared fire safety tips. Our students practiced the Stop, Drop and Roll with the fire fighters and learned about the importance of the equipment they use to fight fires. If you have any suggestions or concerns, please contact the CDC office at God Bless, Stephanie Dunne, Director This week we will welcome the Selma Police Department and their friend McGruff on Tuesday to speak with our K3-1st grade students. Please continue to sign-up for Parent/Teacher conferences which will be held on October 23rd & 24th. We still have slots open to help with Trick or Treating or the Cake Walk in our building for the Halloween Carnival. You may drop off your monetary donations or pumpkins in the front office of the CDC for our Annual Church Festival this coming weekend. We appreciate your generosity! Just a reminder, this Friday, October 19th is early release for the school, the CDC will be open until 6p. The cafeteria will be closed so every student will need to bring a lunch on Friday. 5 Student Corner Writings from the Journalism Class Who is Tiger Woods? By Belle Asbury Tiger Woods is an African/Asian American professional golfer. He was born Eldrick Tont Woods, but he legally changed his name to Tiger. Tiger was born to Earl and Kultida Woods on December 30,1975, in Cypress, California. Tiger Woods once said he s been playing the game before since he could remember. Tiger s parents have said he was playing with a plastic putter before he could walk. When he was young, he could not be stopped. He won his first national title at eight years old. Tigers parents said, We ran out of space for Tiger s trophies and medals. In 1996 Tiger was offered his tour card, and he accepted it. In 1997 he won the Masters, the biggest tournament of the year. He was the first African-American to win the Masters. To this day he has won eighty-one tournaments and in those eighty-one tournaments he has won eighteen major tournaments, which is second to Sam Snead.
