1 Spring: the music of open windows. ~Terri Guillemets Spring break is right around the corner. (April 2-April 6) Don't have any special plans? Don't panic! The Huffington Post has suggestions for getting your family out and about in your own neighborhood: Go On A Bike Ride Time to dust off the bikes and get moving. Pick a trail with some natural attraction such as a lake, park, beach or the like. And don't forget some safety basics -- wear a helmet and weather-appropriate clothing, make sure your bikes are in good condition before heading out, and bring along water and snacks. Plan A Daytrip In Nature You know that place you've been wanting to go but haven't had the time? Go now! Check out a local nature attraction such as a zoo, aquarium, museum or botanical garden. Pick a place that appeals to your kids' interests. Hit The Trail Spring is the perfect season for hiking. The weather isn't too hot, the wildflowers are beginning to make an appearance and trails are still relatively crowd-free. For the best experience, choose a trail that's suited to the least eager hiker in your group, bring plenty of snacks and take it slow. Design Your Own Photo Scavenger Hunt Young kids love scavenger hunts. Pick a theme, like spring, color or even shapes. Or pick one different item for each day of your vacation. The fun is in getting outside to find the "perfect" thing to photograph for each item on your checklist Discover A New-To-You Park If your kids are young, you're most likely bored with your neighborhood park. Try one in a different area. Or venture beyond neighborhood parks to state parks, national parks or other natural areas near you. Rediscover Your Backyard Believe it or not, there's plenty to do right in your own backyard. Build a fort or plant a garden. Make your own outdoor obstacle course. Extend the fun into the evenings with an outdoor move. See the rest of the suggestions at
