1 Principal s Newsletter April Dear Parents, Calendar April 14 Dinner and Auction April th grade Camp Ondessonk Trip April 19 1:30 Dismissal, Faculty Meeting April 24 Fine Arts Night April 26 Early Learning Academy Preview Night (PS, PK, Kindergarten) 6pm May 6 First Communion May 7 No School for 2nd graders only May 9 PS, PK, K Screening May 10 1:30 Dismissal, Faculty Meeting We have started the week off busy preparing for our annual Dinner and Auction to be held at St. Aloysius School on Saturday, April 14. Several classrooms have been busy finishing up projects for the silent auction. Many great items have been donated from businesses, school families, parishioners and more for both our silent and live auction. Doors open at 5:30 with cocktails served and the Silent Auction beginning. Dinner, provided by Nelson s Catering, will be served at 6pm. Dinner includes salad, half chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, and a dessert. The Live Auction will begin at 7pm with the Silent Auction closing at 8pm. Tickets are $30 per person and reservations are due Thursday April 12th. Some Live Auction items include: a female Labrador puppy, Nelson s Backyard BBQ, and a week s vacation at any Wyndham resort in the United States. Send in your RSVP s tomorrow. You will not want to miss this event. On Friday, April 6 the Humboldt Broncos Junior Hockey Team was traveling to a playoff game in Canada when their bus was involved in a terrible accident. Ten players and five staff members died in the accident and the other fourteen on the bus were injured, some gravely. Thursday is "Wear a Jersey Day" to show your support for the team, their families, and all those who are mourning. Students will be allowed to add a jersey to their uniform. Jerseys may be hockey or any other sport related team. Congrats to Shelby L. and Diamond N. who were baptized at the Easter Vigil. Please keep Jersey D. in your prayers as she prepares for her baptism on April 22nd after the 10:30 mass. She will receive her first reconciliation on Tuesday, April 24 after the 8;20am mass. Registration: There are still many families who have not re-enrolled for the school year. Re-enrollment must be completed online. We are in the planning stage for next year and need accurate numbers for enrollment for ordering of materials and classroom needs. It is very important that this is done as soon as possible. Please log into RenWeb to complete your child's enrollment. St. Al s District code Sta-il. If you need assistance or do not have the ability to complete online enrollment from a computer at home please contact Rich Harkins at rich.harkins@saintaloysius.org. You can set up an appointment to complete online enrollment in the school computer lab if necessary.

2 Spring Pictures are coming home today! All students had a spring picture taken. The picture packets will come home today. If you are interested in purchasing the pictures please send payment back to school asap. If you are not interested in keeping the pictures you MUST return the entire packet back to school. Knights Athletics: Pictures for 5th-8th grade Volleyball and 5th/6th grade Boys Basketball have been rescheduled for Tuesday the 17th. A flyer will come home soon with more information. Springfield Youth Team Tennis: Practice and team based games will be Wednesdays until May 9th in the St. Aloysius School Gymnasium from 4:00 5:00pm. Program contact, sonthana@midsouthillinois.com. St. Aloysius is joining the Illinois Proud Penny Drive to help raise funds for the Lincoln Bicentennial. Proceeds will be used to bring to Springfield the document giving Abraham Lincoln permission to begin his law career in Springfield due to his good moral character! Please see the flyer that will be sent home with more details. St. Aloysius School, in an effort to support Hope School of Springfield, will be taking part in a Dress Down Day for Autism Awareness on April 20 th. Students are allowed free dress if they bring a $1 donation. April is designated as national Autism Awareness. For more information on Hope School or specific Autism support programs, feel free to contact Mr. Skyler Tierney at ext or stierney@hope.us Science Fair: Science fair is this Thursday. The 7 th and 8 th grade students have been working on their research and projects since September! Their projects will be displayed in the gym after school this Thursday until judging is complete later that evening. Come check out all their hard work! Please join us for our Fine Arts Night on April 24th from 6pm-7:30pm. More information will come home next week regarding this event. Preschool, Pre-K and Kindergarten Preview Night: Do you know a family that has a child or 2, looking at Pre-school, Pre-K or Kindergarten for the school year? St. Al s Early Learning Academy Preview Night is coming up on Thursday, April 26 th at 6:00PM. Families with children entering PS, PK and Kindergarten are encouraged to come learn about our early learning program and tour the classrooms, where our littlest learners are learning Social/Emotional Skills, as well as important foundational academic skills for school success! Bingo Help Needed: We are in need of volunteers!!!! Bingo is a GREAT way to gain service hours. If you are interested in volunteering for Bingo on Saturdays please contact Michelle Hagele SHG PRESENTS THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE: SHG is excited to present their 2018 Spring Musical, Thoroughly Modern Millie. Show times are April 13, 14, 20, and 21 at 7:30 p.m and April 15 and 22 at 5:00 p.m. The Children's Event will be Sunday, April 15th at 3:00 p.m. in the Commons. For tickets and children's event reservations, call the ticket office at ext SHG Cheer Tryouts: SHG Cheerleading will be holding tryouts for the school year from April 30th- May 4th, 4:30-6:30 each day in the East Campus Gym. There will be a mandatory parent/ cheerleader tryout meeting on Sunday, April 29th at 2:00 in the East Campus Commons. Please shgcheerleading@gmail.com with any questions you may have. Go Cyclones!
