2 THE DANCE COMPANY The Northwest Florida Ballet will celebrate its 47 th anniversary during the season. Since its inception, NFB has reached: 385,000 patrons at 444 main stage productions 58,000 patrons at 71 free outdoor performances 20,000 children at 90 lecture-demonstrations in Okaloosa and Walton counties 2,820 local children as performers in The Nutcracker for 37 consecutive years 10,000 special needs children and young adults at exclusive performances tailored to their needs However, these productions would not be possible without help. The combined total of our various revenue sources (ticket and season subscription sales, performance boutiques, and our dancewear boutique) only provides 40% of the necessary funding for our performance seasons. The remaining 60% must come from outside sources. By becoming a sponsor of the Ballet, you are ensuring the continued growth of a vital part of the arts community on the Emerald Coast. 3 THE DANCE SCHOOL Since 1969 the Northwest Florida Ballet has been the preeminent ballet school on the Emerald Coast. As one of the oldest fine arts institutions in the area, NFB has a long-standing history and reputation with area residents. We are known for our excellence, especially in our educational programs. NFB has played a strategic role in the economic rebirth of downtown Fort Walton Beach. In 2002 NFB opened the Sybil Smith Lebhertz Center for Dance Education, a beautiful building containing 13,000 square feet of dance studios, fully equipped Pilates studio, administrative offices, academic classrooms, costume shop and storage. In 2015 NFB opened the 3,500 square foot Studio Annex, which houses a large studio and is used mainly by the growing Pre Professional High School Program. In 2002 the Northwest Florida Ballet launched a new educational initiative: the NFB Académie. The Académie is an arts-centric education-al institution, the first of its kind in Northwest Florida. It is operated in conjunction with the Okaloosa County School District, and is a free public school for grades 3-8 open by audition to all residents of Okaloosa, Walton, and Santa Rosa Counties. 156 students enrolled annually 12 professional dancers employed 3rd-8th grades offered 15 years as an A+ school As a free public school the Académie is able to extend classical ballet training to populations that have historically been underserved by the dance community. Students study visual art, music, French and have Ballet class every school day. Fully one third of the Académie student population is eligible to receive free or reduced lunch through the school. Since its inception the Académie has prided itself on academic as well as artistic excellence. The school has been awarded an A+ rating every year it has been in operation, and the students standardized scores have consistently placed the Académie among the top schools in the district. In 2012 the NFB Pre-Professional Program was created for our Académie graduates. Continued training is vital to the success of any young dancer, and the NFB Pre-Professional program is designed to afford our high school-aged students in grades 9-12 the scheduling flexibility to get the most out of their day. Students enroll in accredited Florida Virtual School courses that allow them to spend additional time in the studio that a traditional high school would not. The program currently has 18 students; this number is expected to grow as more and more former Académie students set their sights on careers in professional companies.

4 NFB Season Performances MOON MOUSE: A SPACE ODYSSEY The Northwest Ballet season opens with Lightwire Theater s newest adventure, Moon Mouse: A Space Odyssey on September 23 at 7:30 p.m. at the Mattie Kelly Arts Center at Northwest Florida State College. Audience members will join Marvin on the space adventure of a lifetime: a trip to the surface of the moon on his homemade rocket, where he meets a strange cast of misfit creatures, learns of infinite peril and views awesome beauty. Lightwire Theater rose to national prominence on the hit show America s Got Talent, and brings to life a truly a unique, innovative and visually dazzling theatrical experience. Utilizing the talents of four cast members, they strap on costumes fitted with electroluminescent lights, turning their entire bodies into life sized puppets to bring the cast of creatures and scenery to life through movement and dance. STARS OF AMERICAN BALLET Featuring principal dancers from New York City Ballet, Stars of American Ballet brings its show stopping artistry and athleticism to the Mattie Kelly Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. on October 27. This one-night only performance will feature the master works of George Balanchine and include Apollo, Tarentella, Who Cares and more. NUTCRACKER (with live music) Based on E.T.A. Hoffman s "The Nutcracker and the King of Mice," NFB produces the only full-length production of the classic holiday ballet in the area. In its 37th year, The Nutcracker is set in a small German town in 1835 to the music of Pytor Ilyich Tchaikovsky with choreography by celebrated Artistic Director Todd Eric Allen. All public performances will feature live orchestra music. The Nutcracker performances will be held at the Mattie Kelly Arts Center on November 18 at 7:30 p.m., November 19 at 7:30 p.m., and November 22 at 2:30 p.m. FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE: A CELEBRATION OF BALLET RUSSE DE MONTE CARLO (with live music) Featuring three of the world s most celebrated works from the legendary Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo, NFB s final season production will include Firebird, Scheherazade and the pas de deux from the balcony scene of Romeo and Juliet. From Russia with Love, will be presented on April 1 at 7:30 p.m. and on April 2 at 2:30 p.m. on the main stage of the Mattie Kelly Arts Center. Both performances will feature live orchestra music.
