1 Kettle Run High School Music Department 7403 Academic Avenue, Nokesville, VA Mrs. Elisabeth Deavers, Band Director (540) ext Dear Marching Band Students and Parents, Thank you for your interest in becoming a member of the Kettle Run High School Marching Band an eighttime Virginia Honor Band! Having spent the last five years as the assistant director for marching band, I am excited to start my first full year as the band director at Kettle Run! We will continue to work hard to maintain a successful marching program that is well-respected around the state. Through investing your time and work ethic, Marching Band at Kettle Run will be one of the most memorable activities of your high school career. Please understand that being involved in Marching Band takes a strong commitment from both you and your parents. All rehearsals and performances are required, and unexcused absences will not be tolerated. Keep in mind what you GET out of any activity is directly related to what you GIVE. If you work hard every day and maintain a positive attitude, our product as an ensemble will be terrific! Band camp is the time of the summer when the band learns their marching show. This show will be performed for football halftime shows and marching competitions. Band camp consists of learning the music as well as the marching maneuvers for the show. Attendance during band camp is extremely critical. If a student misses a part of a day, a whole day, or a week of band camp, the entire ensemble needs to go back to catch the student up to where they need to be. Students who miss all or part of band camp may potentially lose their place on the field for the show. If so, they will be assigned to play in the front ensemble, which is a non-marching percussion section that performs along the front sideline. When band camp is over, there will be weekly rehearsals Tuesday through Thursday after school. Please make every effort to schedule doctors appointments and other events on Mondays or Fridays that we do not have football games. Please look at the tentative calendar, marching band agreement, and contact information form included in this packet. The calendar is yours to keep, but please fill out the marching band agreement and contact information forms and return them to your director ASAP. The membership fee is $310 per student with a non-refundable $100 deposit and a copy of the fee table due at the Marching Band Kick-off on Thursday, May 18 th. If you have a financial hardship or are interested in a payment plan, please contact me via phone or . Checks may be payable to KRHSBBA and must be sent directly to me at Kettle Run High School. If you are a rising 9 th grader, please do not give a check to your middle school director. If you ever have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me via at edeavers@fcps1.org and/or visit Sincerely, Elisabeth Deavers Band Director STAY CONNECTED!!! and

THERE IS A $5.00 CONVENIENCE FEE IF YOU CHOOSE THIS OPTION. Membership Fee $310 (mandatory fee) This fee covers staffing, show design, competition fees, camp needs, uniform cleanings, and food for game days. This is a carefully calculated amount and every effort to consolidate costs has been made. A spreadsheet will be available at the Marching Band Kickoff May 18 th outlining these costs. A non-refundable $100 deposit is due on or before May 18 th. Hospitality Supplies/Bottled Water Fee - $10 (included in membership fee) This fee covers the cost of paper goods (plates, bowls, silverware, napkins, cups) for game day dinners and band events throughout the year as well as bottled water for all football games, competitions, and parades. This fee is in lieu of individual donations of items, which has been the procedure in the past. County Activity Fee - $60 (included in membership fee) This fee is imposed by the county and is included in the membership fee. Marching Band Show T-Shirt - $15 (included in membership fee) The students will design and vote on the shirt design during band camp. The shirts will be made and available around the end of August. Extra shirts are available for order. This shirt is one of two shirts that will be worn under marching uniforms or for special events at school. This is only mandatory if you do not already have one (you are welcome to purchase a new one if your old one is becoming worn).
