1 October 2016 Newsletter Ontario Public School Megan Milani 550 Allanb urg Rd. Principal Thorold, ON, L2V 1A n.org Dear Parents/Guardians, Our school year is off to a great start. I know we will have a year of great success with the consistent effort our students are putting forth in their academics, and to adhere to school rules. I am so impressed with how respectful, and helpful your children are. Thank you for the warm welcome to the Knights community. Your kindness is much appreciated. Students are working hard to improve their Mathematics and Literacy skills. Students are reminded to read every night for homework. Every student has a password for Dreambox and can access the on-line mathematics program. Passwords will be reviewed next week with students (especially with our younger Knights), so everyone can easily access it. Going on Dreambox every night for 20 minutes will help consolidate math concepts. Wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family, filled with great weather, good friends and lots of delicious treats. Sincerely, M. Milani Principal

October is International Walk to School Month - A Message from Public Health Lace up your shoes or snap on those bike helmets for an active trip to school. If you live far from school, park a few blocks away and walk part of the trip. If you ride a bus, take part by walking to your bus stop. Here s a quick trivia question to have fun with at the dinner table tonight. Walking and wheeling to school can improve: A) Health B) Happiness C) Stress Level
4 Ontario School Newsletter October 2016 Page 4 D) Grades E) Safety F) All of the above If you said F, you re correct! Walking and wheeling to school has many benefits and those are just a few. (Source: activesaferoutes.ca) Tips to remember when walk or biking: Look left, right and left again when crossing the street Never run or dart out into the street or cross between parked cars Make eye contact with drivers before crossing in front of them and watch out for cars that are turning or backing up It s always best to walk on sidewalks or paths. If there are no sidewalks, walk facing traffic as far to the left as possible Cross streets at corners, using traffic signals and crosswalks Watch out for cars coming out of driveways and alleys If what you are doing has wheels, protect your brain always wear a helmet When riding your bike, ride in the same direction as the cars are driving Tips from School Cash Online - Coming Soon We know you have many different priorities competing for your attention each day. To respect those demands, we would like to help you save both time and effort. Beginning November 7 th, you ll be able to approve permission forms and pay for school items, such as fieldtrips and school spirit wear, online. A great way to have your questions answered is to attend an open house. Grade 8 students and their families are invited to attend High School Open Houses from November 28 to December 1.
