All the math classes have been working very hard. The fifth graders have learned how to work with whole numbers, fractions and decimals. They are finishing the year off learning about various geometry and measurement concepts. The sixth graders have also been busy this year reviewing what they learned in fifth grade and much more. They are currently working on some introductory algebra concepts and will end the year with geometry as well. The seventh graders have learned so much this year. From solving simple equations to more in depth algebra concepts they have learned a lot. All the classes are constantly working to improve their critical thinking skills and understand more why we solve problems the way we do. Thank you parents for all your support at home. Have a great end to the year! 2 Changes from Mrs. Gabert I wanted to let you know about some changes that will take place for the school year. We have begun planning for some changes to our schedule and the offering of classes for junior high. Our focus for next year will be working in teams as teachers. Our first change is the new offering of full day PreSchool and PreKindergarten program. Full day preschool and prekindergarten will operate the regular school day hours. We will offer ½ day for 5 days for both programs and 3day for PreSchool program. We are excited that our preschool program already has more registered students than last year. The next change comes in our Junior High (Upper Grades) programs. The Junior High will include 6 th, 7 th, and 8 th grade students. Each student will have 9 periods a day. We will have a shortened 9 th period on Monday, Tuesday and Friday. Mass will be on Wednesday so we have a modified schedule on this day. On Thursday we will have a new STREAM (STEM) Enrichment program from 8:00 9:30am. Each student will be in a 9 week course, so they will have 4 different courses through the school year. The Enrichment program will include choices for students such as the following: Cooking, Bible Study, Health, Critical Thinking, Technology, Robotics, and other developed programs by the Enrichment Team. We will be sending more information home about this program as we develop the courses for the year. The students will have the opportunity to choose their top 4 courses and an alternative for scheduling purposes. We are excited about giving the students some choices in our program offerings. Spanish and Critical Thinking will no longer be a 5 day a week course. Spanish will be offered two days a week to all 6 th, 7 th and 8 th grade students. Critical Thinking will become a part of our enrichment programs. Our lower grades will also make some changes. We will be working in teams next year. Our teams will be as follows: K-1, 2-3, and 4-5. Each team will be working together for all students in those grades. Each team will work differently based on their needs in each grade. An example is the 4 th and 5 th will divide the subject matter among the 4 teachers. Each teacher will teach a subject of strength and teach both 4 th and 5 th. Other grades will focus on the individual needs of students and focus their attention on intervention whether the child needs advancement or extended help in an area of study. We are very excited about the opportunities for our students next year in meeting their needs for success at St. Albert School. The teachers have already begun planning for next year and are looking forward to making the needed changes. We will keep you informed as more information is developed on the above changes. 2
