1 WIS Musical 2016 Once Upon A Dream (The Classic Story of Cinderella) Enjoy the excitement, the agony, the majesty and the thrills of the ageless story where pumpkins become elegant coaches, mice become men, and rags turn to riches with the wave of a wand! Once Upon A Dream (The Classic Story of Cinderella) is the charming fairytale as you have never seen it before with fresh and exciting songs that will carry you to the world of wicked stepsisters, a bumbling fairy godmother, a handsome prince and a whole new cast of delightful characters. When are auditions? Auditions will be held January Auditions will take place during the school day (during midday and lunch). Audition Results Audition results will be sent home with students on January 15 th. How do I sign up? Audition permission slips are due by Thursday, January 7 th. Please turn in your permission slip to Mrs. Whitehead and she will assign you an audition date and time. Students will not be able to audition without a signed permission slip. No late permission slips will be accepted. You will mark your audition interests on the permission slip. You will choose from the following: Solo Actor: This means you are interested in an acting role that includes solo singing (if available). Group Actor: This means you are interested in an acting role that does NOT include solo singing. Chorus: This means you are NOT interested in an acting role but you are interested in group singing. Costumes Information Students will be required to provide some or all of their costumes. Specific information will be provided after the show is cast. You will have this information on or before the first February rehearsal. Rehearsal Schedule and Absences The schedule for the musical is included in this packet. Please make sure you do not have conflicts with the schedule. (Please include this information on your permission slip) We will be unable to excuse students from practice because they are in a club, etc. Because of the nature of a musical, only 2 absences are tolerated. After 2 absences, students may be removed from the character role in the show or may be removed entirely from their character or chorus role in the show. In addition, practices end promptly at the time listed. It is expected that parents will be prompt in dropping of and picking up their student from practice. Students that are not dropped off on time may be removed from the musical after the 2 nd time their transportation is not prompt. Rehearsal drop offs begin at 6:55am. Students will NOT be able to use the late bus for transportation in May. Student Behavior and Expectations We expect students to demonstrate the WIS guiding principles: responsibility, respect, hard work, compassion, and honesty. Students that do not uphold these qualities may be removed from the musical. Musical Books and Supplies Students need to provide a ½ or 1 binder for their musical book. We will have the script and music ready on the first practice for students to place it in their binder. Students will also need to have a pencil and highlighter at every practice. Please make sure your name is on the OUTSIDE of your binder! You will need to turn in your binder BEFORE the first musical practice on January 19 th.

This schedule gives you an idea of all our scheduled practices that your student may be asked to attend. Practices are not optional; they are REQUIRED! 3 Audition Instructions: Please read these audition instructions carefully. We will not allow students to come back later to finish their audition because they didn t read a portion of the audition instructions. If there are any questions, please contact Mrs. Whitehead or Mrs. Rowe immediately (not the day of the audition). If you are auditioning for You must sing You must act Solo Actor If the Shoe Fits the script and provided below Group Actor If the Shoe Fits the script and provided below Chorus If the Shoe Fits None You will just sing Script: You will play Role #1 for the auditions. One of the teachers will play role #2 for your audition! Memorize your lines! Use hand gestures! Don t be afraid to move around! BE OVERLY DRAMATIC!!!! About the scene: Role #1 and Role #2 use to be animals. They were changed into coachmen and footmen by the fairy godmother. This scene is their response to their transformation. Role #1 is VERY excited about being a human. They ramble on and on about all the exciting changes. ROLE #1: ROLE #2: ROLE #1: ROLE #2: ROLE #1: Wow! Can you believe it? Minutes ago I was running around on all fours Looking for cheese, and now I m wearing this great coat And shoes and gloves and pants. And look (laughing) NO TAIL! And no big ears. And my nose is so small! And I have fingers and toes. Please! Let us conduct ourselves with a little more dignity. Right! Dignity! Whee! I m so excited. Think of all that food! Please! Dignity! Monologue: In addition to the script above, you will need to perform the below. Memorize your lines! Use hand gestures! Don t be afraid to move around! BE OVERLY DRAMATIC!!!! There once was a kind and beautiful girl who lived happily with her kind and beautiful mother and her handsome father. But her mother died and her father married a very extravagant woman. Not only was her new mother extravagant, but she was the rudest and snobbiest woman imaginable, and she had two daughter who were exactly like her. The poor girl s father was seldom home and spent most of his time traveling to earn money for his new extravagant wife and her greedy daughters. While he was away, his kind and beautiful daughter was forced to wait hand and foot on her Stepmother and Stepsisters. And each night, when her work was done, she would fall asleep by the fireplace.

4 Audition Song Everyone will have to sing a small portion of one of the songs. Lyrics are included in this packet. The music is available at: This recording will be used as your accompaniment at your audition. Make sure you are comfortable with the entrance, the notes, and the words. Please do NOT use YouTube to learn the song. We can NOT guarantee that the performance on YouTube is correct and we will NOT excuse a student s audition because they did not learn the song using the recordings provided!

5 Student s First & Last Name Homeroom: WIS MUSICAL AUDITION PERMISSION SLIP Please turn this in to Mrs. Whitehead or Mrs. Rowe by 2:40pm on January 7, I have read the audition packet and understand all the information given, including the expectations below. It is my student s responsibility to learn the script and music for the audition process during winter break. I understand the music is available on the website, or I may request a CD version from Mrs. Whitehead. There will NOT be any time during school to learn or practice for the audition. My student is responsible for arriving to their audition on time. Failure to do so may result in NOT being able to audition. It is not any teacher s responsibility to make sure my student remembers and makes it to the audition. I have reviewed the rehearsal calendar, and my student can commit to the listed rehearsals. I will list any and all known conflicts below. I am able to provide transportation for my student to be picked up promptly at the end of each rehearsal. Failure to pick my student up on time may result in my student NOT being able to continue in the musical. My student may miss a maximum of 2 rehearsals without any major consequences. I understand that 2 absences means my student may not be allowed to participate in the musical. My student will demonstrate responsibility, respect, hard work, honesty, and compassion. If my student does not behave appropriately, they will not be allowed to participate in the musical.
