1 Jerry Ross Elementary School Randolph Street Crown Point, IN Phone: Fax: Website: Phone: /Fax: Home of the Rockets A Message from Mrs. Stolarz Friday, March 24, 2017 Jerry Ross is accredited with The Crown Point St. Baldrick s Event Raised over $68,000 March 17th to fight against childhood cancer. We had a Jerry Ross team for the first time and exceeded our goal of $2500. We had nine participants, including 6 brave shavees! We are proud of our students and happy to support a worthwhile cause. Standard 1: The school maintains and communicates a purpose and direction that commit to high expectations for learning as well as shared values and beliefs about teaching and learning. Office Hours The Jerry Ross office hours are 7:45 a.m.-4:30 p.m. What are your kids doing over spring break? One of my pet peeves as a mom is when my children say, I m bored. My response to this is always that if you are bored, you must be boring. Think about this for a second...how could our children possibly be bored? There are endless things to experience, without leaving home. Think about what you did as a child to entertain yourself. Did your mom and dad play with you when you had nothing to do? Did they schedule their after work television around your preferences? Did they schedule every minute of your day when you were on spring break? I can tell you that mine did not. But I learned how to keep myself busy and entertained. I laid in the grass and watched clouds, I read books, I rode my bike around the neighborhood. I made crafts out of construction paper, kicked the soccer ball against the garage and played school. I challenge your kids to get creative this spring break and use their imagination! Be safe and have fun, Mrs. Stolarz If your student is going to be absent, please notify the office at jerryrossattenance@cps.k12.in.us or calling UPCOMING EVENTS Spring Break March Buckley Homestead -4th Smillerman April 5 Buckley Homestead 4th Snapp April 7 ISTEP Part 2 Window is April 17-May 5 3rd Grade Music Program April 6pm March Life Skill of the Month Perseverance

I have been given the opportunity to be the assistant manager at the high school and look forward to helping them continue to move forward. It has been a wonderful home and a great second family, here at Jerry Ross Elementary. I wish everyone the best and look forward to seeing you around town or possibly at the high school. Please welcome the new manager, Mrs. Eileen Juranich. She will be a great asset and looks forward to meeting you. Vegetable of the Month: Avocados = Guacamole The students tried this at lunch and it all disappeared. Most really enjoyed it. Try the following recipe at home: BEST GUACAMOLE Ingredients: 2 Avocados, ½ lemon (juiced), 2 Tablespoons chopped onion, ½ teaspoon salt, 2 Tablespoons olive oil Directions: 1) Cut the avocados into halves, remove the seeds, scoop out the pulp into a small bowl. 2) Use a fork to mash the avocado. 3) Stir in lemon juice, onion, salt, and olive oil. 4) Cover the bowl, and refrigerate for 1 hour before serving. Scrip packets are coming home this week and we're running a special contest this month! FOR EVERY $25 you spend on Scrip (including reload and Scrip Now) you will be entered into a random drawing for a $25 gift card of your choice!!! The winner will receive their gift card in May when the Scrip order is placed. The more you spend, the more chances you have of winning!!! Deadline to order is April 6th.
