1 Montessori Minute THE MONTESSORI MINUTE Huggable Hallway Helpers A Huggable Hallway Helper is a stuffed animal that helps friends start school with a smile on their face and lets them know they can have a great day, just by having a nice hug. We have it because some of our friends walk in with a sad look on their face, so it is used for anyone in need of a great hug to start a great day! Last year the whole school had a stuffed animal drive and each of the officers and class representatives got to pick out one stuffed animal from the basket to use as a Huggable Hallway Helper. If your child (or children) seems sad when they are walking in to school; don t worry because we can put a smile on their face with our Huggable Hallways Helpers. And if you like video games or like shopping on the Internet this is the movie for you. The movie is about Ralph and Penelope, two game characters who are best friends, but when Penelope s game breaks and the part is too expensive to get, Ralph goes on a mission, but will he make it back? I liked this movie because you get to see the Internet and video games in a whole different way. Anya Heller 9/10 Marias Hotel Transylvania Hotel Transylvania is an awesome movie series. There are three movies total. I recommend this series for the whole family. Hotel Transylvania has a lot of funny action; like my favorite part in the 3 rd movie when the family is on the plane, I think you will love that part too.~ Tammer Makhlouf

2 Montessori Minute Around the Corner Out in Lancaster If you are looking for fun places to go, then Lancaster is the place. Here are a couple of suggestions. BeadWorks 52 N Queen St, Lancaster, PA If you are interested in making jewelry or want to try it out then the BeadWorks is the place to go. Pottery Works 16 Orange St, Lancaster, PA Say you are bored and you want to paint something, you can go to Pottery Works and paint what ever pottery you choose. Science Factory 454 New Holland Ave, Lancaster, PA If you want a hands on experience on science then the Science Factory is a great place to go. Hands on House 721 Landis Valley Rd, Lancaster, PA Speaking of hands on, Hands On House is a wonderful place to take younger friends on an adventure. Fulton Opera House 12 N Prince St, Lancaster, PA The Fulton Opera House is a magical place for friends of all ages to see a live action play. By Travel GirlZ Sophia Do & Angie Calabrese MARY POPPINS JR. Hi I am Alex Holler and I am in Mary Poppins Jr. a play being performed at the Ephrata Performing Arts Center. I will be playing Michel Banks. I have been going to rehearsals every Monday, Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday. My shows start in February and run almost the entire month. My experience in the theater was very fun. I enjoyed meeting new people to perform with. Most of our school will be seeing the show. I have many lines to memorize and many scenes to act out. The show will be approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. My favorite part of the show is the song Practically Perfect. Mary Poppins Jr takes place in 1910 and is full of excitement and adventure. I am looking forward to our opening night and performing in front of a live audience! Our show schedule is: February 15, :30PM February 16, :00AM February 16, :00PM February 17, :00PM I hope you all enjoy Mary Poppins Jr! 2

3 When you are feeling down just pull a quote out of a Kindness Box. A Kindness Box is used for if someone is sad then you can cheer him or her up. It can be filled will whatever you want. Here is a way to start. Materials Steps Small box Gluing Material (Hot glue gun, glue stick) Pipe cleaners Fabric Other items you want to use LED Lights Pom Poms Buttons And other stuff J 1. Make little animals your own choice Some suggestions (monkey, turtle, snail, rock, bunny) 2. Decorate your box and make it look adorable and make it look up to your standard 3. Try it out and have fun 4. If you want to you can switch out stuff or make new things from time to time 5. Have fun and enjoy yourself and your box Sophia Do/Avalyn Camara 3

4 Montessori Minute MAKING COLORS SHINE For Christmas I got oil pastels. You might be wondering what are oil pastels? Well they are sort of like crayons but you re able to shade more colors and they re more professional. You are also able to rub them into the paper but it could get a little messy. When I opened them this is what I did I tore the wrapping paper with no guess of what it could be. Once I was finished tearing off the wrapping paper I was so excited to start drawing! Once we were done opening the rest of our presents I got out my sketchbook and started to think of what to draw. It took me a little while, but eventually I had an idea. First I started with a teal color and drew water then I started shading some more blues into that color. Then I started to draw the outline of a dolphin after that I was putting some grey into the outline. Once I was finished with the grey I started to add some light blue on top of the grey to make the dolphin look shiny from jumping out of the water. After I was finished with the dolphin I started to draw the big sun behind the dolphin to make the effect that it s jumping in front of the sun. I blended the really bright yellow with red and orange on the edges. Beside the sun I drew with a sort of a sky blue color to be the sky. 5 DOG MAN Dog Man is a comic book about a police officer with a dog s head and a human s body. I really like Dog Man because it is very funny, there are currently six Dog Man books most of them are based on classic books, so are a few of their titles including A Tale of Two Kitties, Lord of the Fleas, and Brawl of the Wild. Dog Man s enemy is Petey the world s most evil cat. ~ Ramey High P s and Q s (Poems, Puns, Quotes, and Quips) Laugh It Up! Why was the skeleton sad before prom? He had nobody to go with! Why didn t the clam give money to charity? Because he was shellfish!
