We had a good homecoming week, our sports are all doing well, our activities are in full swing, and our fall play (The Legend of Sleepy Hollow) was a success.

1 Spartan Spotlight Volume 48; Issue 3 October/November Dear BRHS Families, November 2 is the final day of the marking period and it is hard to believe how fast the school year is moving. We had a good homecoming week, our sports are all doing well, our activities are in full swing, and our fall play (The Legend of Sleepy Hollow) was a success. Be sure and check StudentVue/ParentVue to monitor your grades as the quarter winds down. Reminder, we will not send report cards home, they will be viewable on November 15 in ParentVue. Winter sports tryouts are November 6. We are hosting a conference on Mental Health here at BRHS on November 11. Our Academic Awards ceremony will be November 14. As we approach the second quarter and holiday I want to say thank you to our students, parents, and staff. BRHS is a special place due to the community we have. Regards, Mr. Spage 1

3 Medical Club Broad Run s Medical Club is designed to help students progress towards their goal of working in the field of medicine. Students interested in any aspect of medicine are welcome to join! Club members participate in interactive activities, several dissection labs, listen to guest speakers, and many more fun events! Medical Club has some exciting meetings planned for the month of November. On November 8th, the astounding veterinarian Dr. Chad Davis will give a lecture and conduct an interactive, hands on activity for all club members. In late November, Medical Club members will be dissecting sheep brains! If these activities sound exciting and enjoyable, then this is the club for you! Think Pink Broad Run DECA, an association of marketing students, kicked off its annual PINK project by going up to New York City on Friday, October 6 for a Career Experience Field Trip.

Not only did the group get National Exposure for 2 hours while they visited The Today Show Plaza, but they also got an interview with Al Roker and talked to, and got selfies with, Hoda Kotb!

This year s campaign is called PINK FAMILY- One Tribe, One Mission, One Fight and this year s project couldn t have started off any better! Marching Spartans Another season is wrapping up as our Marching Spartans prepare for one final performance - the VBODA Marching Assessments, the first step to become a Virginia Honor Band.

Hylton Hot Rod Classic, the Millbrook Battle on the Blue Ridge, and the prestigious JMU Parade of Champions. We re so proud of the band s accomplishments this season!

5 Marching Spartans Another season is wrapping up as our Marching Spartans prepare for one final performance - the VBODA Marching Assessments, the first step to become a Virginia Honor Band. Throughout the season, the Marching Spartans have brought home 2 nd place trophies from the C.D. Hylton Hot Rod Classic, the Millbrook Battle on the Blue Ridge, and the prestigious JMU Parade of Champions. We re so proud of the band s accomplishments this season! As the season comes to a close, we d like to pause to honor all of our seniors for their hard work and dedication to the Marching Spartans program: Front Row: Zak Newlin, RJ Loyd, Laura Groundwater, Pete Berman, Matt Cieslak, Charlie Fierstine and Sandra Scarlatiou. Middle Row: Richard Ogle, Billy Levinrad, Ayham Hasan, Warren Spencer, Nafiz Islam. Back Row: Jacob Rose, Michael Bourdelais, Anna George, James Confoy, Sam Campbell, and Sean Tillman. We d like to thank the entire Broad Run Community for their support this season, whether it s cheering us on front the stands, taking part in one of our Dining for Dollars events, or giving financial support during one of our fundraisers. With the holidays approaching, the Marching Spartans are offering the sale of holiday greenery! If you would like to purchase a wreath or mini-tree for your home or as a present for friends or family, just ask a band member! 5
