As you are finishing up your record books, which are DUE Friday, September 4 th to the Extension Office, it is the perfect me to reflect on what you have learned throughout the past year and use that knowledge to create new goals for the new 4 H year! Also, it is me for re enrollment and new enrollment to start soon! Start spreading the word about 4 H and the endless opportuni es it offers! If you know of someone that is interested in learning more about the opportuni es 4 H has to offer invite them to a club mee ng or a county wide event! Also, start brainstorming fun things to do with our club this year and even project ideas! Did you see something at the Howard County Fair or the Iowa State Fair this year that you would like to learn to do? START NOW! 2 COUNTY NEWS Record Book Time Reminder record books are DUE Friday, September 4 in order to be eligible for awards! There are lots of awards available in addition to completion awards! All forms are available at the office or online at the ISU Howard County Extension and Outreach website. National 4-H Week We will once again be celebrating National 4-H Week during the week of October 4 th - 10 th! The theme in Howard County will be Dare to Discover 4-H. This is a time for you to show your 4-H pride and dare your friends to discover the endless opportunities 4-H has to offer! Get creative and promote 4-H decorate your car, create posters at school or community businesses, and/or use social media! Show youth across the county, state, and nation the fun and opportunities 4-H can provide! DARE your friends to DISCOVER 4-H! 4-H Family Fun Night Mark your calendars for a 4-H Family Fun Night on Saturday, October 3 rd at Prairie s Edge Nature Center shelter from 4-6:30 p.m.! Come celebrate the accomplishments of last year and kick off the new 4-H year by playing kickball, bean bag toss, volleyball, and enjoy a light meal! Come as a club, family, or bring your friends to show them the fun that is and can be had in 4-H! If you plan on attending, RSVP to the Extension Office by Wednesday, September 30 th with the number of people attending! Citizenship Year 1 On the Horizon Our regional Citizenship program is about to get under way for the year. The Citizenship group is open to any youth from 7 th 11 th grade. It is a two year commitment that covers local and state government in year one and moves up to federal government in year two. This year will end with a trip to the Iowa State Capital! In year two, you will end with a 5-day trip to our nation s capital! Know someone not a 4-Her but would be interested in joining? Bring them in and we will sign them up for both. If you would like to join the group or want more information, please contact Erica at the Extension or via ehollida@iastate.edu. Re-enrollment on 4H Online Beginning September 15 th Howard County 4- H ers will be able to re-enroll for the upcoming year. Please go to to sign-in and complete the process for reenrollment after September 1 st. You have until November 30 th to complete or risk losing the assistance for your annual fee. If you need help enrolling online or would like to apply for membership dues assistance please contact the Extension Office! Leaders if you have new members have them come in or call the Extension Office. Recruitment Pizza Party It is once again the time of year to work on new 4-H recruits for the coming 4-H year! Let s share the Howard County 4-H program with others! If you know friends or families in your area, personally invite them to your next meeting. Howard County 4-H Clubs will be competing for the most new members enrolling in their club by November 30 th. The club that recruits the most will receive a pizza party! Fall Leader We will have a fall leader meeting on Monday, September 21 st at the Extension Office at 7:00 p.m. We will be doing a fair wrap-up, discuss National 4-H Week plans, re-enrollment, fair premiums, annual volunteer training, and other upcoming events. Please RSVP to the Extension Office by Wednesday, September 16 th. National 4-H Week Theme In Howard County, we will be using Dare to Discover 4-H as the theme for National 4-H Week!
