VOLUME 46 ISSUE NO. 6 OUR 46 TH YEAR JUNE 2014 From Behind The Wheel - The President s Message CLUB OFFICERS President - Bud Cole Home Cell cole@epix.net Vice President - Ken Greidanus busterdoogle@rcn.com Secretary - Sally Alercia frontdesk@reagleins.com Treasurer - Gene Ujvary edujvary@verizon.net Newsletter - Brad Orey eagleye@rcn.com Visit us online at: eastonareacorvetteclub@yahoo.com The Blue & Gold is published monthly by: The Easton Area Corvette Club, Inc. P.O. Box 3969 Easton, PA CLUB MEETINGS Club meetings are held on the first and third Thursday of each month March through October. November through February meetings are held once a month on the first Thursday of each month. Meeting dates may change depending on holidays. All meetings are held at the YR Club on Rt. 611 in Easton except during the months of May through September, when the first meeting of the month will be held outdoors at Hackett Park weather permitting. All meetings start at 7:30 PM and are subject to change depending on weather conditions. To find out the status of a meeting, check prior to the meeting. WOW!! May is already gone and I Hope you had the opportunity to participate in one of the many Club activities that took place in May. Due to the weather, the first cruise of the year started off slow but we still managed to turn out a profit for our charities thanks in part to DJ Brian Keith. His generosity over the years has helped our Club in many tight situations. Things perked up for the Wind Gap show with 23 plus cars preregistered which earned the Club a $ cash award which was donated back to their charity, the Wind Gap Athletic Association. The month ended with a big Memorial Day weekend packed with things to do. Friday night a group danced the night away at the Jetport with music provided by DJ Jimmy K. Saturday night 19 cars cruised the strip (Northampton Street) in Easton and enjoyed music and dancing in the circle. Sunday was the M & M Mars car and truck show in Hackettstown, NJ. On Monday which was Memorial Day, 19 EACC Corvettes participated in the Easton Memorial Day Parade to honor our service men and women. After the parade, 17 of the 19 Corvettes headed south on 611 to the Cactus Grill in Pipersville for lunch. It was a nice ride down and back. Our day ended with 12 Corvettes being displayed at Country Meadows, Bethlehem, for the residents to enjoy. This visit was not only beneficial to the residents but to our Club members also! Thanks to all who participated. June promises to be an even busier month starting with our first outdoor meeting at Upper Hackett Park at 7:30 PM. Next up is our second Cruisin at the Crossings on Saturday the 7 th. Help is always needed at the cruises, so please if you have even an hour, any help you can give is appreciated. Please check the Mark your Calendar section of the newsletter for more events and shows. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome the new members that have joined the Club over the last few months and hope you become involved in the many activities the Club has to offer. Please feel free to approach any current member or officer of the Club with any questions or comments. We were all new members at some point and remember how awkward it can be until you make that first new friend. Our members make this a great social club.

Park & Ride at 10:30 AM. Sign up at meetings. No cost to you just bring an appetizer, salad or desert. Corvettes are not required! After many years of Cruisin at The Crossings at the Northampton Crossings Mall, we are going to be moving to a new location beginning with our September 6 th Cruise. Due to the planned expansion of the Sam s Club building and the addition of gas pumps, we will no longer be able to hold our cruises here. Rather than wait until construction begins, our Cruise Committee has been looking for a new location that will meet the needs of our cruise attendees. We have located just such a spot in Forks Township at the Park Plaza on Sullivan Trail (The old Laneco building) will provide us with the amenities you are used to having here at The Crossings. There are places to eat, bathroom facilities and shopping as well. The support we have received from the merchants at Northampton Crossings over the years has been exceptional. We thank them for their support of our cruises and hope you will continue to support them after we have relocated. Only the location will change the fun will remain the same.
3 In early 2005, I was in a position (kids out of college and loans paid off) to buy a "fun" car. I asked my friends, Dick Aller and Harold Drake (who already had their corvettes) to help me find one. We looked at a couple cars from local ads, but they needed more work than I wanted to deal with. Then in March, Harold found my car on Cars.com. It was owned by a Police Officer in Philadelphia. He and his wife bought the car a few years prior and had a lot of work done on it. They replaced the suspension, interior, exhaust system and had it painted. It was originally Buckskin color, both exterior and interior. They went to a new car show in 2002 and saw a Z06 in Electron Blue and decided to paint the car in that color. Dick, Harold and I went to check out the car and I bought it. Other than replacing the rear wheel bearings and having the radiator re -cored, I have only had to do routine maintenance. I bought a set of used aluminum wheels, cleaned them up and put them on the car with new tires. I have enjoyed driving my Corvette since I bought it.
