The parade will be the same route as last year following Alamo Heights Blvd. from the AH Pool (by the Little League fields) to the High School. JUNIORS The carnival will be in the overflow lot (AKA the Junior Lot). To get ready for the carnival, we will need the parking lot empty Wednesday morning. Therefore, we have teamed up with the Alamo Heights United Methodist Church to have our juniors park there and busses will deliver everyone to the high school. During the regular lunch period we will have an exclusive JUNIOR ONLY LUNCH in the overflow lot as a thank you. Student Council will have food trucks and games. Stay tuned for more info! The pep rally will follow at the stadium. Homecoming Spirit Week is this week! Dress up to show your school spirit and get pumped for the Howdy Night on Wednesday and Homecoming game on Friday. The Mules returned the opening kick off back for a touchdown to start the scoring. The defense held the Rockets scoreless in route to a 41 0 victory. Water Polo The girls took third in the Alamo City Championship The boys qualified for the 1st time in 3 years, but did not place in the top 3.

3 MEDICAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE PRESENTATION The AHISD Medical Advisory Committee is excited to announce a community presentation Wednesday October 3 rd, 6 7pm in the AHHS auditorium foyer. Topics include: sleep & mental health, vaping, chiropractic topics, lower extremity injury prevention, sports nutrition and more! Parents, students, athletes & coaches from all campuses are invited to attend. The AHISD Medical Advisory Committee was founded in It includes the AHISD athletic training staff and team physicians from Sports Medicine Associates, as well as other medical professionals from the area. Our goal is to share knowledge and provide educational opportunities with parents, students and staff, with an emphasis on overall student health and enhanced academic & athletic performance. EXTRA CURRICULAR UIL One Act Play auditions for She Kills Monsters: Young Adventurers Edition are October 1 5th. Audition information and sign up sheet are available at the Blackbox Theatre. Not an actor? Sign up to join our tech crew. Don t miss out on this opportunity to tell this story of loss and love all while bouncing between the real world and the world of Dungeons and Dragons. 9 th, 10 th and 11 th school picture retakes will be Oct. 2 nd in the Auditorium from 7:00 a.m. to 3 p.m. You do not need to sign up for a photo time. Senior picture retakes will be Oct. 16t th and Oct. 17 th in the Auditorium from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Seniors MUST sign up outside Room 203 Main. Seniors not photographed by the Oct. 17 th deadline will not be included in the yearbook. INFO FOR STUDENTS & PARENTS Mighty Mule Band is having a FOOD DRIVE starting on September 24 th benefiting the San Antonio Food Bank. The SA Food Bank services Bexar County and 15 surrounding counties, serves 58,000 individuals weekly, and distributes 74,000,000 meals annually. The 12 most wanted items are: peanut butter, tuna, cereal, beans, rice, mac & cheese, chili, canned stews, canned soups, canned luncheon meats, pop top food items, and full meal cans/box. Please drop off unopened food items in the barrels in the AHHS Music Building or in the Principal s Office between Monday, September 24 th and Thursday, October 18 th. YOUNG WOMEN LEADERSHIP SYMPOSIUM on November 3 RD WIIT and Texas Diversity Council present an amazing opportunity for 9 th and 10 th grade young women to explore the development of future professionals in the Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, or Mathematics (STEAM) related fields. The event is FREE, breakfast and lunch will be provided. See the attached flyer for more details. Students remember to check your K12 daily. Students and parents should also check HAC and TAC daily as errors need to be corrected within five days. PSAT is on Wednesday, October 10 th, All juniors and pre registered 9th and 10th graders need to report to their testing rooms by 8:45 AM. Please check for your room assignments on the rosters in the main hallway. Don t forget a calculator. Seniors and non registered students are expected to report to 5th period at 1:18 PM. CENTRAL PARK DRIVER S EDUCATION The class will be held at AH JUNIOR SCHOOL in room 202 Monday through Thursday at 4:45 6:45pm. Flyers are available in the attendance and principal s office and several locations throughout the corridors. Any interested students need to have their parents contact Central Park Driving School (210) ASAP for enrollment. Accepting s for Excused Absences Parents may send the Attendance Office s to excuse their child s absence to HSATTENDANCE@AHISD.NET. Please remember that all parent excuses must be received within 5 days of the absence and after 5 days, it can only be excused with a doctor s note. COLLEGE CENTER NEWS #SeniorSeptember We are happy to report that almost 50% of our seniors have submitted a college application at this time! We are still in September and have all deadlines available let s get those applications in Seniors! Let us know how we can help. FINANCIAL AID: The Free Application For Student Aid ( FAFSA ) opens on October 1, 2018 ( ). The (College Scholarship Service) CSS Profile is institution specific aid available at about 200+ private schools and also opens on October 1, 2018 ( ). Financial Aid Information Session We will be hosting a Financial Aid Information Session for students & parents on Wednesday, October 17 th in the Auditorium lunch (12:25pm). No RSVP needed. COLLEGE VISITS: Week of Sept. 24: Miami (Ohio), University of Richmond, Dartmouth, California Baptist, Hardin Simmons, Centre College, Agnes Scott College, CalArts, Syracuse, Art Institute of Chicago, MIT (recruiting visit at UT Austin), University of Miami (Florida), Tulane. Week of Oct. 1 : Northeastern, University of Georgia (Virtual visit via Skype), Swarthmore, Texas A&M San Antonio, UIW, Willamette, Trinity College (Connecticut), SMU, Tulsa, Marquette, Texas A&M College Station. WOW! That s a lot of great schools! Freshmen and Sophomores, since you don t have off campus lunch privileges, we should be seeing more of you in these recruiting visits! COLLEGE SPOTLIGHT : University of Miami ( ) With an enrollment just under 11,000 students the University of Miami is comparable to SMU in terms of size, and its setting in world class city. The U also boasts a Top 25 ranking for its Entrepreneurship program. Students from Cinema and Interactive Media Departments are encouraged to participate in the school s annual Canes Film Festival. Miami s housing combines living and learning with communal meals, poetry, and sports, and is modeled after England s Cambridge and Oxford setup. Please plan to attend one of two School Safety Presentations for the community from 5:30 7:30 pm in the Woodridge Auditorium either Monday, October 1, 2018 or Wednesday, October 3, 2018 to learn about all the steps AHISD has taken for school safety and security and to share your thoughts with us. After Monday, September 24th, cash & carry mums will be available while supplies last at Howdy Night and Friday at the High School. Mums are a great way to show your spirit for the Howdy night parade and the Friday Homecoming game. We will have large keepsake and peewee size mums, Go Mules Go buttons and personalization options. The parade will end at the HS with the annual Howdy Night Carnival to follow on the parking lot and Castano. Enjoy lots of fun, food and win some prizes too! Mr. Hoffman will share his story and focus on how we can all work together to improve addiction rates in our community and across the country.
