Newsletters are online at Educating All Students To Be Good Citizens Learn Experience Success And Self-Worth EAGLES DARE TO SOAR ENDERLIN TEAM NAMED STATE CHAMPIONS AND SUPERIOR ACTORS By: Mrs. Egan The Enderlin School One Act team won the state play competition in Jamestown last week among 20 qualified teams from around the state. The Enderlin group won both their preliminary and final event as well as being named as state superior actors as an ensemble. The team consisted of seniors Faith Christensen, William Egan, Twyla Gross, Laurana Lynds, juniors Trissa Gross, Nicolle Peterson, Jessica Utke and sophomores Layla Anderson, Chloe Anderson, Brooke Christensen, Maya Hanson, Cassidy Fraedrich, and Shawna Lynds. The team was coached by Terri Egan and Brooke Kraft. PRE SCREENINGS By: Mrs. Prante If you have a child that is 3 or 4 years of age that has not been previously screened, please come to our open house preschool screenings on Friday, December 8 th, 2017 from 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. at the Enderlin School. 3 ONE ACT PLAY AND VOLLEYBALL TEAM SCHOLAR AWARD By: Mr. Michaelson Congratulations to the One Act and volleyball teams for receiving the North Dakota High School Activities Association Team Scholar Award. POWER By: Mr. Michaelson Students and parents are encouraged to check PowerSchool grades daily. Staff meets with students weekly to go over grades in their respective classes. Contact the Student Services Office or principals regarding any PowerSchool concerns. ARCHERY PROGRAM By: Mr. Webb The National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) is up and running for the second year here at Enderlin Area Schools. With donated equipment from the former Ransom County Sportsman's Club (Fort Ransom) and the financial backing of the Enderlin Wildlife Club, we will begin practice the week of November 27th. Teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or better to qualify for this honor. The One Act team had a 3.71 GPA and the volleyball team had a 3.86 GPA. With 48 students (grades 4-12) signed up to participate this year, Mr. Webb is very excited to take the next step in the NASP program. He is hoping to have some of the students participate in local NASP tournaments. Schedule and results will be posted at a later date. ADVANCED BIOLOGY By: Mr. Schlecht The 12th grade advanced biology class is currently wrapping up a unit on blood and hearts. The whole school might not have known what we were doing, but they probably smelled it. The class brought in deer hearts from the local deer hunting season and studied comparative anatomy by dissecting the heart. A deer heart is like most mammalian hearts and has four distinct chambers, two atria and two ventricles. The students were able to see the main valves as well as other key features of a heart. I would like to thank all parents, relatives, and friends who helped collect these hearts for this unique learning experience. 3

4 FCCLA By: Ms. Vetter Thank you to everyone who donated to FCCLA s Operation Christmas Child project! We packed 55 boxes of gifts to be shipped to children of all ages through the company Samaritan s Purse. The 9 th grade FACS class had a blast organizing and carrying out this project. In a season of receiving, it was so great to see students excited to give back to those less fortunate. Have a wonderful holiday season! ENDERLIN BOYS BASKETBALL By: Mr. Kraft The Enderlin boys basketball team started their campaign Monday, November 27 th. 17 players are on this year s team, which should give them enough to play a C-squad, JV and Varsity schedule. The Eagle boys start their season with a scrimmage on Saturday December 2nd vs. defending state champion Hillsboro-Central Valley (closed to the public). The team officially tips off Friday, December 8 th at home vs. South Border, followed by another home stint Saturday, December 9 th vs. a very good Hatton Northwood team. The GOAT game is December 16 th at Lisbon, where the home team has not won in 6 years. The Eagles hope to keep that trend going and win on the road for the 3 rd time in the past 6 seasons. The coaches and players are very excited for a new and challenging season where they hope to get back to the region tournament after missing it last year for the first time in five seasons. The goals haven t changed and the team looks forward to molding into a unit that is very competitive down the stretch. Hope to see you all at the games!! WORD CHALLENGE By: Mrs. Michaelson Did you know... If children read one million words a year, at least 1,000 words will be added to their vocabulary! The more a child reads, the higher their gains will be in reading achievement! If a child reads as much as one million words per year, they will likely be in the top 2% of all children on standardized reading tests. Students who read daily demonstrate higher scores in comprehension, fluency and vocabulary! The Enderlin Area School Library is challenging our students to The Word Challenge this year. This challenge will encourage students in grades 3-6, to read MILLIONS of words outside of school. It is designed to address the issue of reading proficiency and to help students develop habits that will make them successful. We hope to encourage students to continue reading in the classroom and beyond the bell. This year we will be using a program called Reading Counts. Reading Counts is a program similar to Accelerated Reader that levels books and allows children to take reading comprehension tests. Students will read books at their level and take Reading Counts tests to check their comprehension. This program will keep track of the number of words each student reads based on their tests. Every time a student reads 500,000 words, their name will be put into a drawing for an ipad. The drawing will be held on May 21,
