3 3 rd Annual BINGO NIGHT ~ Saturday, October 18 th Eagle Springs Elementary It is that time again for our annual PTO fundraiser. On October 18 th we will be pulling out the bingo cards and rolling out the raffle baskets to raise money for our school. The only way to make this a successful event is for everyone to help. One of many items that the money raised will go towards is additional ipads for classrooms at ESE. Our raffle baskets are a big part of this fundraiser. We have sent a letter home with each student explaining the items that we would like to have donated, a list can also be found on page 9 of the Eagle Eye. Included in this list are basket themes by teacher and suggested donation items. However, please know that if you have an item that fits a different basket theme, we d love for you to donate that too! Monetary donations also help to complete these baskets. Bigger items that we hope to raffle off are an ipad mini, xbox, Kindle, tickets to a sporting event, and a camera. We need to have all donations by Friday, October 3. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Reagan Huckabee Reagan.huckabee@gmail.com or Tiffany Bonner T_mastren@hotmail.com VISION AND HEARING SCREENING THURSDAY, OCTOBER 9TH ~~ 8:00 am ~ 11 or 12 Every year Nurse Amanda checks the vision and hearing of our first, third and fifth graders. This takes a lot of time, but with the help of our wonderful volunteers the process can be a lot quicker and smoother. We need volunteers to test their vision and hearing (some training is required), to help escort children to and from their classes, and to make sure the students are quiet in the hallways. If you can help, or have any questions, please contact Nurse Amanda at or Amanda.stewart@humble.k12.tx.us Grief and Loss Losing a loved one can be extremely hard for individuals of any age. Below are a few ways you as parents can support your children through this difficult time. Understand that children cope with death differently and may have a range of reactions (including emotional shock, regression, acting out and explosive emotions, and questioning) depending on their developmental level. Answer your child's questions and help them understand what happened with truthful, developmentally appropriate responses. Allow children to grieve and tell their story, listen and validate their feelings, and show extra love and care. Understand that grief is a process and allow it to happen as the child needs. Realize that as children move into new developmental stages, they begin to understand the loss in a new way and may need extra support. Be aware of your own need to grieve as a parent; adults who get help working through their grief are much more able to help their child through the grieving process. Check out this online resource for parents to help children cope with loss: Page 3
