1 19 September 2018 Casuarina Street, Katherine East NT Term 3, Week 9 Phone: Current Enrolment:406 Message from the Principal (and the Captains of the newly crowned BRFL Premiers well done Mr. Smith and Mr. O Brien) Good afternoon Parents and Caregivers, Firstly, huge congratulations to our BEAT team! To our Year 3 dancers who lit up the stage for all three nights of the 39th Annual BEAT Festival Ignite!, and to our choir who learned 13 songs, melodies, harmonies and notation to be able to join hundreds of students from schools across the NT in making the show an absolute spectacular! Across all three nights, CSPS students performed in front of over a 1000 people including a SOLD OUT Friday night show! My sincere thanks and congratulations to Mrs Gadd and Ms Lammon for their incredibly hard work in making this a reality for our students. Across the last 8 months the team have been squeezing in rehearsals at lunchtimes, planning and organising the trip on weekends and in their afternoons and it is this commitment that makes the BEAT such a success each year for our school and the students who participate. My thanks also to Miss Julia and Miss Tanya who joined the team and to all the parents who gave their time to make the event such a success. Our congratulations also to Mrs Dixon who this week was awarded the prestigious Paul Harris Fellowship by Rotary International. The Fellowship is international recognition of her work and contribution as a Rotarian to the Katherine community over a number of years and both Mr and Mrs Dixon join a group of less than 100 Territorians to have ever received this award since its creation. A reminder that this Friday marks our 2018 CSPS Character Day and parade! The parade will commence in the playground outside the library at 8:30am and parents and families are encouraged to attend what is always a wonderful morning with our very creative students and CSPS team! Thank you for your ongoing support, John Cleary Principal Top to Bottom Left: Andrey and Victoria talking to ABC radio, Choir on stage, Mr. and Mrs. Dixon with their awards, our dancers getting ready and on stage at the BEAT! KEY DATES FOR YOUR DIARY Character Day Friday 21st September Dress up as your favourite character from a book or film Mid-Semester break 1st-12th October Term 3 commences Monday 15th October
2 Darwin BEAT festival Last week the students in the choir and in the Year 3 dance group performed at the Darwin Entertainment Centre for the 39 th Annual Beat performance. Students in the choir had to learn 13 songs over the past 9 months which they performed as part of the massed choir on the stage. All choir students did an amazing job and sang beautifully on the nights we performed. The year 3 dance group, made up of 25 girls and boys, were outstanding in their performance to Katy Perry s Firework which was the final number of the show. All students danced so well and celebrated the end of the show with some amazing moves taught by Miss Lammon. A big thank you to Miss Allyce for your sewing skills and ensuring our dancers looked amazing on stage. Thank you. A huge thank you to Miss Julia and Miss Tanya for your help and commitment over the 4 days. Miss Julia, your organization beforehand ensured the whole experience was such a success for all involved. Miss Tanya, your enthusiasm and hard work showed in the students when they lit up the stage. Thank you both! It was an absolute pleasure taking the students to Darwin for their performance and we congratulate each and every one of them on their performance and the way they followed the school values at all times. It has been a pleasure working with Miss Lammon on this adventure and I hope to repeat it all again in 2019 for Darwin Beat, Forte. Thank you, Nicolle Gadd
3 Guitar Play Day 17th September On Monday 17 th September the students from Casuarina Street Primary, Katherine South Primary, Clyde Fenton Primary and Katherine High school all came together at CSPS for a guitar play day. The students learnt three new songs which they then performed for parents and students in the afternoon. It was wonderful to see the students playing and singing with such confidence. Congratulations to you all and to Mr Starr for organizing such an enjoyable day.
