1 Baldwin Street Middle How will you e-banner Newsletter 15 March 2019 SHINE? From Our Principals.. This Wednesday, our Unified Basketball teams hosted teams from Grandville, Zeeland, and Zeeland Christian. Then on Thursday, our Unified Basketball teams hosted Cedar Springs. Families and students packed the gym to cheer on our athletes and celebrate hoops action. Thank you to our athletes, coaches, pep band, and volunteers who help with and participate in Unified Basketball. Click on the link to learn more about Unified Basketball. Mark Your Calendars: APRIL 9 BMS Plans for PSAT 8 Testing On Tuesday, April 9, all of our 8th graders will be taking the PSAT 8/9 test, their first chance to practice a college entrance experience. Because of the rules from the College Board regarding this test and the environment we will create, our 8th graders will working on their test in one portion of the building; our 6th and 7th graders will be experiencing a day of learning and service outside of their normal classrooms here at BMS, where they will hear from speakers about vaping and online safety, help out Kids Food Basket, and watch a movie. On this day, students do not need to bring a normal bag of school materials-- no books, binders, bags, backpacks, pencils, notebooks or homework! Students will not have access to their lockers or regular classrooms on April 9. Please help out your student by marking your calendar for this important date and avoiding scheduling appointments on this day. You will hear more about April 9 in each Banner! SOCIAL MEDIA What is the right age to give it to your kid? This is a common question! Every kid is different, but there are some standard questions that should be answered before giving a child Snapchat, Instagram or MusicalLY. The Protect Young Eyes team has created an in-depth analysis for parents to consider when answering this question, which you can read about here: What s the right age to give my kid social media? The PYE team will be at our school on April 9 to talk with kids about the importance of online safety and responsible use of social media.

2 Classwork Connection If you are looking for information about what the homework is for math, when the next test is in science, how to study for social studies, or what your student is doing in each class every day, check out the Classwork Connection. 8 PLEASE VOTE TUESDAY, MAY 7 ANNUAL OPERATING MILLAGE RENEWAL PROPOSAL On May 7, Hudsonville School parents and community members will have the chance to vote on our annual Non-Homestead Millage renewal. This is an annual renewal request that voters have approved for the past 24 years and, if approved, would generate approximately $4.8 million dollars of operating revenue for our school district. Please note, this is not a tax on primary residences and is not a new tax. Official ballot language is as follows: Hudsonville Public Schools Operating Millage Renewal Proposal This proposal will allow the school district to continue to levy the statutory rate of not to exceed 18 mills on all property, except principal residence and other property exempted by law, required for the school district to receive its revenue per pupil foundation allowance. Shall the limitation on the amount of taxes which may be assessed against all property, except principal residence and other property exempted by law, in Hudsonville Public Schools, Ottawa and Allegan Counties, Michigan, be increased by 18 mills ($18.00 on each $1,000 of taxable valuation) for the year 2019, to provide funds for operating purposes; the estimate of the revenue the school district will collect if the millage is approved and levied in 2019 is approximately $4,850,000 (this is a renewal of millage that expired with the 2018 tax levy)?

We would like to put some dates in front of you, so that they can make it to your calendars before the busyness of the new year is upon us. It s difficult to believe that the holidays are almost upon us. Seeing the green grass and warm temperatures fooled us into believing that summer was going to stay. But yesterday changed that thinking!!
