1 2019 Member/Parent Handbook MISSION STATEMENT Allegiance Color Guard is a non-profit 501(c)(3) youth activity based in Dundee, Illinois. We offer color guard learning and performing opportunities year-round. The organization is proudly partnered with Exploring, a co-ed extension of the Boy Scouts of America. Our goal is to provide fun and educational experiences for young people through the art of color guard. WHAT IS SUMMER GUARD? Summer Guard is a 12-week activity that runs May 8th through July 28 th. Members learn new skills through the manipulation of color guard equipment such as flags and wooden rifles. Those skills are then incorporated into fun routines choreographed to pre-recorded music. Once the routines are learned, the members have fun performing them at local parades and events! WHO CAN JOIN? Membership in Allegiance is open to youth and young adults between the ages of As a nationally recognized color guard program, our group draws participants from the Dundee Township area and various communities throughout Illinois and beyond. Previous color guard or dance experience is not required to join! All levels are welcome (beginner through advanced)! REGISTRATION FEE - $99 This non-refundable fee includes all color guard instruction, use of flags, parade participation, bus transportation/admission to the Dekalb Drum & Bugle Corps competition, and an Allegiance Summer Guard T-shirt. Registered Summer Guard members can also participate in our annual color guard Spin Clinic on Sunday, August 25 th at no charge (a $35 value)! To register for Summer Guard, please fill out the registration form on the Allegiance website. After submitting the form, you will be redirected to a secure link where you can pay the $99 Registration fee via PayPal or with a credit card. PERFORMANCES Allegiance will have several performances this summer including the Dundee Memorial Day Parade (May 26), Geneva Swedish Days Parade (June 23), Elgin 4th of July parade (July 4), East Dundee Depot Market (July 20), and the Algonquin Founders Days Parade (July 27). Additionally, we will have a Showcase Performance at the family picnic on July 28. A more detailed itinerary including meet-up times and performance times will be communicated to members and parents prior to each event. FIELD TRIP TO DRUM & BUGLE CORPS COMPETITION Allegiance will take a field trip to an exciting drum & bugle corps competition at NIU Huskie Stadium in DeKalb, Illinois, on Saturday, July 13th! Please note: If the June 8th date is rained out, we will move the car wash to Saturday, June 15 th. 2.) Once the tasks are completed, we will be able to watch the remainder of the show at no charge. Transportation to this event will be the responsibility of each member and family, however, we will do our best to help organize carpooling. TRANSPORTATION Transportation to all rehearsals, performances and events is the sole responsibility of each member and/or parents. Carpooling with other families is encouraged if you need help with transportation. ATTENDANCE POLICY Attendance at rehearsals and performances is very important to the success of our program, however, we understand some families may have summer vacations, weddings, or other plans that may conflict with our schedule. If you have any conflicts with the schedule, please include them in the space provided on your registration form. Also, if you are running late to a rehearsal or performance, please notify the director right away with a phone call or text message.
