1 Gladesville P.S. Newsletter 13th March, 2014 Dates to Remember Thursday 20th Mar - Community Shop 3:00pm-3:45pm Friday 21st Mar - Ride to school Friday 28th Mar - Crazy Hair Disco Tuesday 1st April - Community Group meeting Wednesday 2nd April - School Photos FROM THE PRINCIPAL TWILIGHT SPORTS Thank you to all of the families who attended our Twilight Sports on Wednesday night. We were extremely lucky with the weather with early morning rain. However the sun came out and it proved to be a successful event. A very BIG thank you to Jessica Griffin for organising the notices, ordering the hotdogs, drinks and icy poles. Thank you to Jordan Tate for organising the event and to all teaching and ES staff who supported training sessions and came on the night. Results and ribbons will be issued and announced at Friday Assembly on 14th March in the Multi Purpose Room. GLASSES A pair of glasses were found out on the asphalt area after the Parent teacher interviews. They are reading glasses, black rimmed. If they belong to your or you have heard of someone losing a pair please come into the office and claim them. JEWELLERY A reminder that bangles and necklaces are not to be worn to school. This includes friendships bands and rubber band bracelets. Many students become very distracted by having these and learning time is lost. Nail polish is not to be worn to school. Please remove Sunday night ready for school the next day. A few children are coming to school with tattoos, once again these are for fun on weekends and not to be worn at school. EARN AND LEARN Thank you to every one who collected dockets last year. Our maths goodies arrived this week. Staff are very excited. We now have dice, MAB blocks for number /place value, clocks large and small, scales large and small, counters, buttons, bingo, calculators, measuring trundle wheels and tapes to name some of the items we have in the pack. VISIT FROM YARRA HILLS SECONDARY COLLEGE On Wednesday we had a visit from Hannah, Cody and Joel from Yarra Hills Secondary College as part of the Transition process for Grade 5 /6. They spoke to all of the Grade 5 /6 students and teachers about their experiences. FRIENDSHIPS Boyfriends /girlfriends may be cute but often children get very upset by being included or excluded by others. Please reassure your children that having friends either boy or girl is wonderful. Being a girlfriend or boyfriend is reserved for when you are older secondary school. Elizabeth Thomas Principal 1
2 12 grade 6 students travelled by train to the city last Thursday 6th March. The Conference was lots of fun with our students getting involved in activities to meet other students, join in the dancing and the fun activities. Our school was VERY lucky as we had 6 of our students go up on stage. Troy went up first to play in a game with every other school (over 2,000 students), then Nyssa, Matthew, Ryan, Troy and Locky went up to prove they had met all 5 challenges and Madison was up to share in the dancing on stage at the end.
