Issue 5: 14th December Thank you also to all the children for working so hard this term and taking part so enthusiastically in everything we do. The children did a brilliant job of making lucky boxes and brining sweets in a jar. Absolutely everybody made a contribution to the success of the Fayre. The children in choir sang beautifully (fantastically supported by Mrs B and Mrs Sinclair) and to the year 6 children who created wonderful games for us all to play. More on this on page 2 from year 6 themselves. All of these things have been fully supported by our wonderful parents. Thank you to you as well what a brilliant team! What a fantastic December we have had, brilliantly supported by the wonderful Friends of Windmills (FOWS). We have been skating, enjoyed the festive sparkle at the Christmas Fayre, been entertained by the year 6 games (at the Fayre) and the outstanding year 4 Christmas Production. I want to say a huge thank you to everybody working in the school and who volunteers, with FOWs or as governors, or to hear children read, or who put on clubs you all contribute so much to making The Windmills a really special place to work and to learn. THANK YOU. Dear Parents and Carers, Thank you all so much for all your donations, help and support for the Christmas Fayre on Saturday. The day was a huge success and we hope you and your children enjoyed yourselves. We are delighted to say that we raised 5000 which will greatly benefit the children s learning experience at school. Thank you all once again. Without your support this would not be possible. Kind regards Friends of the Windmills (FOWs)

On Saturday the 9th of December 2017, it was The Windmills Junior School fair and a grand total of five thousand pounds was raised for the school. All of this money will be spent on fabulous learning experiences for the children. Some of this money came from the year six games where groups of one to three year sixes each had their own stall where they could set up the game they had designed themselves. These games were a huge success and with twenty two different games, we raised six hundred and fifty pounds. More than any other year group. Here is an example of one of the games. BANG BANG GRINCH This game was designed by myself, Martha Drake-Lee, along with Joe Chapman and Anna Watts. Unfortunately, Joe couldn t be there on the day but he still contributed. Our game was 10p a shot and the rules were simple. First of all, you had to pay your 10p (or more, depending on how many shots you wanted) and pick a Nerf gun. Then you would try to shoot the moving targets. They were Father Christmas, that didn t win you a prize (he gives enough presents already), presents and the Grinch, these won a chocolate every time you hit them. Thank you to everyone who came to the fayre and paid to have a go at a stall. We appreciate it very much. By Martha Drake-Lee and Ruby Allen.

This year for the Christmas play, Year 4 put on a production that was set in a TV studio during a Christmas chart show. There were 4 presenters: Tim Tinsel, Sam Frost, Holly Bush and Chris Cracker. The people that played them were: Josh Greenhalgh, Sienna Werner, Emily Crisp and Isaac Hilton. The director was Edie Hales and the assistant director was John Lean. There were many different styles of music sung by different types of bands competing to be top of the charts. Here is a list of the different bands: The Crooks, Herod and the Kings Swingers, Gabriel s Soul Patrol, The Wise Guys, The Landlords, Donkee and the Animals and together they all make up the Yuletiders. All of these bands sang a song: The Crooks sang Peace and Love to all Mankind, Herod and The Kings Swingers sang Bad King Herod, Gabriel s Soul Patrol did The One God s Chosen, The Wise Guys sang The First Christmas, the Landlords did The Streets of Bethlehem, Donkee and the Animals sang There is a Stable and the Yultiders sang Everybody Sing Along. These were well know festive favourites with a twist. The cast put a lot of time and effort into the rehearsals. The actors had to take home their script and learn their lines and songs. The lighting crew had to learn how to use the lights and the props team learnt how to silently take the props on and off the satge. Also the technicians had to know when to change the slides and put the music on. Special thanks to: Emma Hardcastle and Thomas Humphreys who had to remind people their lines if they got stuck and were assistant directors throughout rehearsals. Also thanks to the lighting crew who were Luca Traboulsi, Colin Ballueder, Enrico Di Giseppe, Nikos Halvatsis, Sammy Barton and Will Cobb. Also, to props team who were Hayden Wilson, Daisy Conway, Paddy Sleet and Fedon Loftus. And finally, we couldn t have done it without the teachers and TAs who helped make this play happen, a huge thank you to them. And now there s just one more thing to say MERRY CHRISTMAS. Written by Emily Izzard and George Pluck.

Waiting patiently for the curtain call! BRILLIANT JOB YEAR 4 What 4 a Christmas treat!

Dancing at Downlands On Wednesday 6th December, some of The Windmills children, as well as Hassocks Infant School and Gattons School, went to Downlands to take part in a local Christmas dance festival. When we arrived we got we got in groups with the other schools. Then we were put in groups with some very friendly year ten students who taught us a Christmas spirited dance routine. After we had practiced for about 2 hours, we had a small break. We then went to their assembly hall and performed on the big stage to the other groups. All the children who went really enjoyed it! It was a great experience, stated Melissa Healy. The children who took part were: Year 6: Melissa, Georgina, Sam and Noah Year 5: Molly, Alec, Tilly and Jack Year 4: Hannah, Beth, Yigit and Ella Year 3: Scarlett, Ryan, Robbie and Phoebe It was a great experience and all the children thoroughly enjoyed spending the morning creating and improving a dance sequence. Thank you to all those who organised it and to Mrs Drew for taking us to Downlands. Report written by: Melissa Healey and Georgina Bairsto

Well done to all our parents who took part in the transition project keeping our children safe is of the highest priority. If we can do this and encourage the children to be fit and healthy as well then it is a win, win. Please see the results of the survey by following the link below. Dear Mrs Murray, I'm just writing to say a huge thank-you to you for engaging your pupils' parents so successfully in the HKD Transition campaign for improved cycling conditions in the village. You can see just how many people responded to the summer survey and what they by going to: click 'Biking' at the very top of the screen, click the paperclip icon Best Wishes, Chris Thomson Further pictures of our determined and hard working cross country team. Well done for all that you achieved and for braving the cold. You showed great grit. Keep up the running!
