2 Routine for Lesson Vocabulary Introduce This is a crown. A crown is a head covering of precious metal worn by a royal person, such as a king or a queen. Let s say the word together: crown. Demonstrate The king wore a crown. The queen only wore her crown on special occasions. The judges gave a crown and a sash to the winner of the pageant. Apply What is the difference between a hat and a crown? Display Now I will write the word on the board. Let s read the word together: crown. Pencil Talk Design your own crown. Draw a picture of your crown. Write a sentence that describes your picture. Use the word crown in your sentence. Make a list of words you think of when you think about the word crown. I m going to tell you a sentence. The American colonists wanted Great Britain to give them their liberty. What is the meaning of liberty? Let s say the meaning together. Each runner who carries the Olympic torch passes it to another runner. Using a rolled-up magazine for a torch, pass it to a classmate. Students sbould continue passing off the torch as if they are in the Olympics. The last runner uses the Olympic torch to light the Olympic flame. Pretend you are the last runner.
