2 1. INT. CHILD BEDROOM - NIGHT It s a chilly autumn evening. Raindrops drumming on the windowsill can be heard behind the window. In a small child bedroom there s a little, about 9 years old, lying in her bed, browsing a picture book. It doesn t look like an ordinary child bedroom - it s decorated with horror movies posters. On one hand the girl s wearing a glove puppet that looks like a ghost. The book is called "101 ways to kill Dracula, Frankenstein, Werewolf and many other monsters. The bed is all swamped with stuffed animals. The little girl is browsing the book, when she gets to a page with title "Boogeyman in Closet". She s viewing what a boogeyman from closet looks like. Well, I don t know Mr. Boo, but in this book a Boogeyman from closet looks different than the one we have. (makes a silly voice and speaks for Mr. Boo) That s because we haven t found a boogeyman that looks like the one from our closet yet. We must keep on searching. A door opens. The girl throws the book swiftly on the floor and burrows herself under blankets. The girl s enters the room. She sits on the girl s bed. It s almost nine. Time to go to sleep. Mommy? Can I ask you a question, please? Yes, sweetheart? If I had a werewolf in my closet, do you think daddy would shoot him?

3 CONTINUED: 2. Well, I m sure he would. Mommy? And do you think policemen have got silver bullets, so they can shoot and kill werewolves? Mommy raises her eyebrow and looks at her daughter educationally. Yes, I m pretty sure they take shooting werewolves into account as well. And if I hear once again about any monsters, I ll confiscate that book of yours. Mommy covers her daughter with a blanket up to her chin. The girl turns sideways and grabs a stuffed toy that looks like Freddy Krueger. Say good night to Freddie. Mommy pats the stuffed toy on its head. Good night, Freddie. And go to sleep now. Mommy kisses her daughter on her forehead and stands up. She notices a book lying on the floor. She grabs it and takes it away from the room. Mommy? Will daddy be home tonight so he can catch monsters in my closet? No, honey. Tonight daddy will be catching burglars. The monsters at home will be caught tomorrow. And could you take a look into my closet to make sure there s no boogeyman? Please? Mommy takes a look at the closet door opposite the bed.

4 CONTINUED: 3. Very well, let s take a look into the closet. Mommy opens the closet. There s a lot of clothes hanging on a clothes rail. She pushes the clothes aside, so the girl can see that the closet is empty. You see? No boogeymen. The girl leans out of the bed to take a look into the dark closet. Mommy ruffles the clothes back again and closes the closet. She goes to bed and kisses her daughter protectively. We can handle it without daddy for one night. And what if a boogeyman comes and daddy isn t here? Then I ll deal with him. Go to sleep now. Mommy turns a lamp off, leaves the room and closes the door. 2. INT. HALL - NIGHT Mild thunder can be heard from outside. is standing in front of a mirror, dressing in his uniform. He is putting on heavy leather army boots and fastens a belt with a gun. Mommy comes to him, puts her hand on her hip and looks at him, showing him the scary book about monsters. We got a monster in the closet again. Daddy buttons his shirt collar and looks at mommy peacefully. Again? Haven t heard about him in a long time.

5 CONTINUED: 4. You think we should consult with a doctor or something? Come on... she s just frightened by the weather. And by the horrors she s reading all the time. I think those horror books and things like that are not appropriate to her age. I don t like it. These stories are developing children s imagination. I was the same at her age. It didn t hurt me in any way. Once she grows up, nothing will scare her. In my opinion, Frankenstein and zombies are not for kids. And those horrors and scary tales of yours... Daddy takes a worried glance at mommy. He kisses her on her cheek. Everyone had some boogeyman as a kid. Mommy is sighing and says bye to daddy. Daddy leaves. The rain outside is pretty strong now. I ll be back for breakfast. The door closes and mommy is standing alone in the empty hall. The silence is being interrupted by the clock ticking. Mommy goes slowly to her bedroom to have some sleep. 3. INT. CHILD BEDROOM - NIGHT Thunder can be heard from outside. A flash of light can be seen in the window now and then. A long, creepy shadow of a crooked tree is crawling on the floor. The little girl s hugging the stuffed Freddy doll tightly. Her eyes are closed.

6 5. 4. INT. BEDROOM - NIGHT Mommy s sitting on a bed, setting her alarm clock. She feels uncomfortable when realizing she s all alone in the house and her daughter is freaked out by the stormy weather. After a while she turns the light off, trying to fall asleep. 5. INT. CHILD BEDROOM - NIGHT The little girl s lying sprawled on her bed, sleeping. She s still holding the stuffed toy in her hand. Dwindling rain can still be heard, when suddenly, some scratchy noise comes from the window. Also, silent footsteps can be heard. The girl opens her eyes immediately. She squeezes her stuffed toy tighter, pretending she can t hear anything. The noise behind the window sounds again. The girl turns her head slowly to the window - it s a bit blurred. The girl sits, when the closet door moves slightly. The girl s staring at the door ajar. No other move visible. All seems to be quiet. The girl peeks at the closet door every moment. Is someone in there? She s too frightened to go and take a look inside. A scratchy noise comes from the window again. The girl takes a look at the window - the noise is caused by a branch hitting the window due to strong wind. The girl gets out of her bed and draws the curtain, so she can t see the creepy tree outside. The shadow crawling on the floor disappears as well. The girl s lying back in her bed, peeking at the closet door ajar. She hugs her stuffed Freddy, trying to fall asleep. 6. INT. BEDROOM - NIGHT It s the middle of the night. The house is shrouded in darkness. A whistle of wind can be heard from outside. Mommy s lying in her bed, sleeping. She rolls over, when she wakes up and opens her eyes. The little girl s standing next to the bed.

7 CONTINUED: 6. What s going on? The girl s standing motionless, staring at her mommy. (whispering) There s a monster in my closet. 7. INT. CHILD BEDROOM - NIGHT Mommy, wearing a nightdress and slippers, enters the child bedroom. The girl stops right at the door. Mommy goes through the room briskly and heads right to the closet. She turns the light on, so she can see all of the room clearly. We can handle this without daddy. If there s any boogeyman, I ll kick him out of here and tell him I wake up at 5:00 a.m. Mommy opens the closet door and moves the clothes aside. There s no one there. The girl s standing at the door, peeking into the closet. Mommy goes through the room furiously, swinging her arms all around. C mon boogeymen, get out of here! Stop haunting here or else! This is our house, so you better disappear! Mommy dusts off her hands to indicate she s finished. She turns to her daughter. Can you see any of them yet? The girl nods her head silently and points her finger to the curtained window. Behind the window? So let s take a look in there. Mommy opens the curtain and pushes the window shutter up. She leans out of the window, looking around. A silent rustle of wind and light rain can be heard in the garden. Mommy notices a branch of a tree, which keeps hitting the window due to the wind.

8 CONTINUED: 7. You see, honey? There s nothing there. It s just a branch making that noise. We will close the window now and there s nothing to be scared of. Mommy comes to her daughter and takes her in her arms. Oh, look how cold feet you have! And wet! Why did you open the window when it s raining? Or did you go in the garden? At night? Don t open the window when it s rainning. Mommy lays her daughter down in the blankets. Remember - there are no ghosts and monsters. They are just in fairy tales. There are no boogeymen in your closet. You got all this stuff from those horrors you are watching. The girl s looking at her mommy silently. Mommy? And are you sure that monsters don t exist? Totally. She kisses her daughter on her forehead, smiling at her. I d never let any monster hurt my little girl. Mommy stands up and turns the light off. She closes the door and goes back to sleep. The girl s closing her eyes, turning sideways and clutching a stuffed animal in her arms. Streetlamp light comes through the open curtains. Under the window, there are wet shoe prints visible on the floor, leading to the closet. Under the window, the wet footsteps are trampled by the girls little feet. There s a deathly hush in the room. No movement visible. The girl s eyes are closed. The room seems to be completely empty.

9 CONTINUED: 8. There s almost nothing to see in the dark closet. Clothes hanging on the clothes rail are put aside and reveal the back wall of the closet. It seems to be empty, but in a corner there are heavy leather army boots visible, sticking out from under the hung clothes. The girl s breathing calmly, trying to get some sleep, when suddenly the closet door creaks. The girl opens her eyes but keeps lying, rigid with fear. A hand opens the door slowly and here the monster comes - daddy s coming out of the closet. THE END
