4 S.E. GROSS MIDDLE SCHOOL Halloween Costumes RYAN P. EVANS Principal JEFFREY W. TUMPANE Assistant Principal Students will once again be allowed to wear costumes on Halloween; Monday, October 31st. In a gesture of support to the community and to begin the season of giving we ask that each student who participates in Halloween dress up bring at least one food or personal care item for a community food bank. This small act can have a powerful impact on a local family. We had great success last year with students following the rules listed below both in school and at the Halloween Dance. Your cooperation is important for this tradition to continue and for it to grow. Please follow the school dress code. The only exceptions to the usual rules are that hats, face paint, and other small accessories will be allowed on this day. All students participating must come to school dressed in their costumes -- no getting ready in the building. Therefore, students should not bring makeup or hair products to school. Basic Costume Rules: 1. Costumes may not have parts that interfere with learning. This means no masks or costumes that restrict movement or vision, prevent sitting at desks, or prevent participation in physical education class. Costumes must not obstruct movement in the hallways. 2. Costumes may not be violent or suggestive. 3. Costumes may not promote violence or have accessories or props that could be used as a weapon. Look alike weapons are absolutely not allowed. 4. Clown costumes are strongly discouraged due to recent events around the country. Most importantly, all costumes must be school appropriate. Please help your student with their judgment in this process. Thank you again for your support in this event by both monitoring students costumes and more importantly providing items for the local food bank. This small act makes a huge difference in the community! Ryan Evans Principal S.E. Gross Middle School 3524 Maple Avenue Brookfield, Illinois Fax:
5 S.E. GROSS MIDDLE SCHOOL RYAN P. EVANS Principal JEFFREY W. TUMPANE Assistant Principal Costume Contest In order to encourage school spirit and participation, there will be a costume contest! Students who would like to participate must check in by 7:50 am at one of the tables on the playground. Participants will receive a number. Only those with a number will be eligible to win a small prize! The faculty will be judging costumes in the following categories: Best Individual Costume in 6th, 7th and 8th grades Best Group Costume in 6th, 7th and 8th grades Please remember that this is still a school day. Students are expected to fully participate in each class throughout the day. Students should bring a change of clothing, in case their costume is deemed inappropriate or becomes distracting to the learning process. Otherwise students will be asked to put on their physical education uniforms. We are looking forward to everyone following the guidelines, coming up with creative costumes, and having fun! 3524 Maple Avenue Brookfield, Illinois Fax:
6 RED RIBBON WEEK During the week of October 24-28th, our school community will celebrate Red Ribbon Week. Red Ribbon Week is the largest drug- awareness campaign in the nation. Students will have a poster decorating contest in Homeroom, have conversations about making positive choices in homeroom and health class, and participate in dress up days to celebrate Red Ribbon Week. We encourage parents to use this week to have conversations with your students about drug awareness and the importance of making positive choices. Here are some additional resources for families to talk to their children: checkup Spirit Week Dress Up Days Monday 10/24- Wear Red to STOP!. Don t Do Drugs! Tuesday 10/25- Put a cap on drugs.
