We got to hammer the nails and bend them so they can go into the wood. The camp was better than what I thought.

They only needed 3 colours (the primary colours red, blue and yellow) and one shade (black). I paid for a wanted poster about myself.

Stella M The laser show was awesome, because I ve never seen a laser show before. There was fire and fish and lots of colours. I loved camp and I want to go back there again.

We saw how the paddle steamer moves with the big wheels on the side and how electricity makes them turn. There was another paddle steamer called The Gem.

1 Principal s chat Hi everyone, Newsletter no 14 May 28th, 2018 Next week s newsletter will be published on Tuesday 5th June This week we have the grade 5/6 students off to Urban Camp in Melbourne. The itinerary looks jam packed with lots of fabulous things to see, so there is no doubt the children will have a wonderful time. Thank you to Kristie, Bernadette, Kay, Liz, Michael and Shane for supervising the children on this adventure! The grade 3/4 students have come back to school sharing their great memories of camp at Pioneer Settlement. Here are some comments from the campers Francis The Blacksmith was making nails. We got to hammer the nails and bend them so they can go into the wood. The camp was better than what I thought. Dulcie I liked the printing office, because you got to have a look at how things used to be printed. They didn t need many colours to do a colourful picture. They only needed 3 colours (the primary colours red, blue and yellow) and one shade (black). I paid for a wanted poster about myself. Eva I liked the old fashioned photo parlour, because we got to dress up in olden day clothes. It was really fun. Stella M The laser show was awesome, because I ve never seen a laser show before. We got to sit on chairs and looked at animals in the water and on the land. We saw some swans, birds, bugs and horses. It was built in 1879 and was one of the biggest boats to go on the Murray River. I found out a lot of facts when I was on the Adventure Trail. This was used to swing around to make a noise to get the other tribe to come and welcome them to country and tell them where the food and water was. I also liked the rope making, but it was hard to make. Joel I learnt a lot about the olden days. They didn t have fridges. They had this little cupboard with a hanging crate and a door. They would get a wet cloth and hang it over the cupboard and then that would keep things cold. When they built houses they just slid pieces of wood down the sides to make the walls. If they wanted to move it, they could just pull the wood out again and rebuild somewhere else. Stella R We learnt about Indigenous Culture. We saw canoes that were made out of bark from trees. They tried not to kill the tree so they could have more. If the canoes had holes in them, they would put a layer of bark, sticks and leaves and then put clay over the top to make it stable. The women collected duck eggs from the trees, but they would only collect 3 or 4, so that some could hatch and there would be more next season. They also swung a wood thing on a string to make a noise, so that the people from that country would hear the noise and that was familiar to them and they would come over and welcome them into their country. Artists of the week Natalie and Archie Essie We made a fence wall out of tree roots and it looked like it would take two hours, but it only took ten minutes. Some of the tree roots were big. We learnt that we need to put the big ones at the bottom and the little ones at the top to make it look like a triangle. This made it stable and didn t fall down. If it was just straight it would fall down. They didn t use any nails, because it was hard to make nails. This made it easy for the people to take the fence down and use it again if they were kicked out of the area. On Friday we have our annual Open Day. This year we will be having a Teddy Bear s Picnic for the kinder aged children and there will also be a tour of the school for the parents/carers. If you know of any families in the area who currently do not attend Maldon Primary School, please encourage them to come along to our Open Day and have a look at our great school. rd Our Japanese Day is on Friday 3 August. If you are interested in hosting children from Japan, please let Debra know. Hosting is a wonderful experience for both our students as well as the Japanese students. We all had a special tag with an animal. We went to the Castlemaine College and the grade 9 to 12s ran the day. Penny: Tabloid sports was fun. We did all kinds of sports. I had fun. Lots of people had lots of fun too. I enjoyed it so much. Lots of people enjoyed it too. We saw lots of different schools. Karen: I liked the parachute game at the Tabloid sports. I also liked duck-duck-goose.

4 Division Cross Country: Congratulations to Jack S, Tom S and Alannah who all ran very well at the Division Cross Country last week and qualified for the Region Cross Country event to be held in St Arnaud next Tuesday. Special congratulations to Jack who came third in his race-an amazing effort. Well done!
