LEEP has taken some fabulous vacations in years past along with many exciting things in store for Summer 2018 and we look forward to continuing to travel around the world with you. When you receive your packet, take some time to read through the policies and registration procedures as some things have changed and please pay special attention to the changes in deposit amounts and payment due dates. In order for LEEP to ensure we do our best to accommodate our traveler s needs we will be strictly adhering to these. 2 SPECIAL OLYMPICS INFORMATION In order to participate in Special Olympic sports, athletes must complete an Application for Participation form. All sections must be completed, signed, require a doctor s signature, physical and background check. Forms will not be accepted if not completed fully. Once completed, the application must be turned into the LEEP Office and LEEP will submit the form to the Minnesota s (SOMN) office. This application does not guarantee acceptance into programs until official word is received from SOMN. Forms must be updated every three years to continue participation. Athletes are not allowed to participate in practices or tournaments without a current completed form. If you are in question as to whether you have this form completed, please call LEEP at and we can verify it for you. This form must be updated every three years, if it is not up to date, the athlete will not be able to practice or compete until cleared by Minnesota. All athletes must be a paid LEEP Member before participating in any LEEP activities. After the athletes have registered for their sports, LEEP will mail out specific information regarding practice times, tournament dates, what to wear, etc. is available for anyone ages 8 and up. LEEP will attempt to place younger athletes together. SWIMMING Swimming is for the beginner swimmer to the advanced swimmer. All athletes will have the opportunity to attend the Area and State tournaments, competing in their desired events. With our knowledgeable coaches, the athletes will improve their swimming skills and gain confidence in the water! Dates: Wednesdays, March 14- June 24, 2018 (Full schedule mailed out upon registration) Limit: 20 athletes Location: Mankato West High School Time: 6:30-7:30 pm Tournament Locations/Dates: Area- Gustavus Adolphus-Sunday, April 22 State- University of St Thomas Friday, June 22-Sunday, June 24 Cost: $200 for entire season *includes: all practices, Area and State Tournament fees, Hotels, transportation for Area and State Tournaments Payment Plan: 1st Payment due March 14 = $95 2nd Payment due April 27 = $55 3rd Payment due June 8 = $50 Practice Transportation due March 14 Additional $25 for 1- way practice transportation Additional $50 for 2- way practice transportation FULL & HALF COURT BASKETBALL LEEP offers two different options for traditional basketball to help meet the needs of our athletes. We have full-court teams and half-court teams. The full-court teams are more competitive and faster moving. Half-court is for those athletes who have very minimal basketball skills/knowledge. If you would like to request a specific level please do so when registering, however we cannot guarantee you will be placed in the level you request. LEEP places athletes on teams based on skill level. Dates: Thursdays, March 15- June 24, 2018 (Full schedule mailed out upon registration) Limit: 32 Full-Court Athletes 24 Half-Court Athletes Location/Time: Determined by the team each athlete plays on. The first practice is a divisioning practice. Athletes will be notified by phone call which team they will be participating with before the second practice (3/22/18). They will be given a full schedule and seasonal informational letter at the second practice. The Summer Rec Program is a life enrichment program designed for students in transition who have an intellectual disability. The goal of the program is to increase independence in daily living skills by combining recreation and leisure activities in a structured, safe, and supervised environment. This year LEEP will be continuing our partnership with the University of Minnesota Extension to again offer a 4-H Club and nutrition program as part of the LEEP Summer Rec program. Rec Center Ages: years old (who will attend school in the school year to qualify) Program Dates: June 11 - August 17, 2018 (10 weeks) Times: Monday Friday 8:00 am-4:30 pm Additional care hours 7:30-8:00 am and 4:30-5:00 pm Cost: 10 weeks for the low price of $1,350 ($135 per week) *Registration is now open! 5 SPECIAL EVENTS BYE BYE BIRDIE AT MNSU Saturday, April 7 It is 1960, and a chorus of young girls energetically sings the praises of rock & roll idol Conrad Birdie. At Almelou Music Corp. in New York, Conrad s managers, Albert Peterson and Rosie Alvarez (who ve been dating for years), learn that their client has been inducted into the Army. Though she d prefer that Albert settle down and become An English Teacher, Rosie concocts a plan: as a publicity stunt, Conrad will bid a typical American teen-age girl goodbye with a public farewell kiss. Rosie randomly selects the name of the lucky girl: 15-year-old Kim McAfee of Sweet Apple, Ohio.*Cost includes admission, 1 meal, staffing, event and drop-off transportation. We will be checking out all that the Science Museum has to offer, including the new Towers of Tomorrow with LEGO Bricks, an exhibition where architecture and engineering meet creative play. Not only will you see 20 of the most astonishing skyscrapers from around the world, replicated using only LEGO bricks, you can also create your own tower of tomorrow.'
