1 MMHS Eagle HighFLIGHTS: *MMHS Theatre: The MMHS Theatre program received a Superior rating for its One Act play at the Region 8 competition last week. The play will compete at the state competition in April. The production, a play set in 1930s Germany called Fear and Misery in the Third Reich, was produced by the MMHS Theatre 3 class. There were several stand out performances in the play, and the judges especially noted how well the cast performed together as a cohesive ensemble. Congratulations! *Prep of the Week: Bryson Van Tassell has been selected as this weeks "Prep of the Week" for Maple Mountain Athleteics. Bryson has been a big reason why the Golden Eagle baseball team is off to a great start. His bat and glove helped the team to back to back team championships at Deseret Hills and Snow Canyon Invitational baseball tournaments in St. George recently. Congratulations Bryson and good luck to you and the team the rest of the year. *FCCLA State Winners: We would like to congratulate the Family Career Community Leaders of America chapter for their great achievements at state last week. Micah Hilton, who competed in Recycle Redesign received a Silver medal. Janna Allred as well as Sabrina Wasden, competed in Fashion Construction, both receiving Silver medals. Courtney Eckhardt competed in Job Interview, receiving Silver. Becca Bair competed in Life Event Planning, and received a Gold. And...(drum roll...) Our team: Ashley Chidester and Shalese Black, who competed in Life Event Planning, received Gold and placed 1st in State! All of these students did an excellent job and represented Maple Mountain very well. We also wish Ashley and Shalese good luck as they go to nationals in San Antonio, TX this summer! *Science Fair Winners: Jason Syndergaard and Tucker Sandbakken, juniors at MMHS, entered the CUSEF science fair at BYU. Their science fair project was "Nuclear Fusion Using A Pyro Electric Crystal Particle Accelerator". They took 1st place in the Senior Division in Physics. Their project was also 1 of 6 chosen to compete in the ISEF competition to be held May in Los Angeles, CA where they will compete against high school students from all over the world. Both students also won an $80,000 scholarship to Westminster College. Congratulations Jason and Tucker! *Welding Places in State Competition: Our welding Fabrication team went to the SkillsUSA state competition on Friday and won first place for the second year in a row. The team was given a blueprint on site and only 4 hours to complete the project. They beat out 14 other teams. Team members include: Josh Jensen, Chandler Schramm, Michael Swanson. They will head back to Kansas City MO this summer to compete among the best in the country. Congrats! Thank you for an amazing week! *MMHS Dance Company: The MMHS Dance Company will present its 5th annual spring concert entitled "Dance Company in Concert" on Thursday and Friday evenings starting at 7:00pm, April 3rd and 4th in the MMHS Auditorium. Original works by MMDC members will be presented along with performances by the MMHS Dance Sterling Scholar, Dance 2 class, and the Social Dance 2 class. Please come out and support MMHS Fine Arts at its best. The Dance Company will also represent MMHS at the Dance Company Festival and Adjudication on April 2nd at 7:00 pm as they perform in the gala at the Covey Center for the Arts in Provo. MMHS Dance Company will hold a try-out clinic on Mon, Apr 21 3pm, in our Dance Room (A-117); and Dance Company auditions will be held on Wed, Apr 23 3pm, in our Dance Room (A-117). *Attention Seniors: Did you know you can earn an Academic Letter of Merit in Science? An academic letter is useful for college applications, resumes, and job applications. Letter of Merit applications are due by April 1 st to Mr. Hyer. To apply, simply go to the counseling office, pick up a copy of your transcripts, highlight the science classes you have taken, and turn it in to room E-202. If you qualify, you will receive the award during the Senior Awards Assembly. If you have any questions, ask your science teacher for more information. *Graduation Info: It is time to begin the countdown to graduation! Our Seniors have been working all year toward this goal. We will be holding a brief assembly for all Seniors on the morning of Tuesday, April 1 st (at 8:45 am in the auditorium) to go over graduation procedures and answer student questions. A timeline of important dates and deadlines has been posted to the MMHS website for your information. *Course Requests for : Course requests for are currently being processed. If your student has not returned their course request form, please have them do so right away. Forms may be returned to English teachers, or to the Counseling office. *Lunch Department Info: There will be no charging on student lunch accounts, beginning Wed, April 2 nd. Please pay all overdue lunch accounts as soon as possible. Thank you! *Career Day: We are excited to announce that we will be having a Career Day on Thursday, April 3, We will be on assembly schedule that day and our Career Fair will go from 9:00-10:15 a.m. The presentations will last 25 minutes and students will have the opportunity to choose two speakers from the list provided to them that day. Please encourage your student to make good use of this time. We will have a wide variety of careers and hope that your student will take advantage of this opportunity to speak with professionals in the field they want to go into. Our presenters are volunteering their time and we appreciate their efforts. If you would like to speak to students about your career during our Career Day, we would love to invite parents to participate. In keeping with the Utah State Office of Education's "Step Up to Higher Education" program, we are looking for careers that require 1, 2, 4 or more years of training or education after high school. For more information, please contact Robyn Dunn our Work-based Learning Coordinator, at robyn.dunn@nebo.edu. We will also have a mini-career fair during lunch with approximately 15 vendors available for students to visit with. Vendors will include cosmetology schools, military recruiters, MATC, and other trade schools. *MMHS FFA: Each year members of the Maple Mountain FFA and local 4-H Clubs exhibit and sell animals in several Utah Junior Livestock Shows. Sale prices of their animals vary and generally at market prices the

3 youth will not make a profit. To stimulate the interest of the youth and keep them from discouragement, we help them through purchasing their livestock. Format is as follows: 1 st period 7:55 9:02 Career Day 9:10 10:05 1 st speaker 9:10 9:35 Rotation time 9:35 9:40 2 nd speaker 9:40 10:05 2 nd period 10:14 11:22 Lunch 11:22 11:57 (mini-career fair down by front office/cafeteria 20 vendors) 3 rd period 12:03 1:11 4 th period 1:18 2:25 Teachers will distribute the list of speakers and room numbers to their 1 st period class at the end of class on April 3. Students will be allowed to choose two speakers from the list. Do not allow the students to stay in the same room both rotations, encourage them to find another room/occupation. We will cap each room at 36. Speakers will prepare 25 minutes of presentation/demonstration and be prepared to repeat their presentation. Speakers should come to the office by 8:50 a.m. to allow for time for them to get to their rooms and set up materials.
