1 Dear students and families, Whitman Middle School Presents Seussical Jr. My name is Mr. Peter Kao (pronounced cow, like the animal) and I will be your director for Whitman Middle School s production of Seussical Jr. I am very excited to get start, but there are a few guidelines for the show: School comes first. Rehearsal and the show are not excuses to skip homework assignments. If you have down time during rehearsals, you can use that time to do some homework. Be respectful. - Of others. We are all in this together. We are all working hard to put on a great show. Being mean to each other will only hurt us in the end. - Of the space. We are guests in the theatre. Please clean up after yourselves. - Of things. A lot of costumes, props, microphones and other things needed for the show will be borrowed. Please treat them very carefully. Accidents happen, but let an adult know right away so we can try to fix it. Practice at home. Since we only rehearse from 3:30 5:00 on Mondays through Wednesdays, it is very important that you practice on your days off so that we can keep everybody moving. Costumes. This is an exciting part of being in a show- dressing up in fun, colorful clothes! Seussical in particular has some wonderful costume opportunities. No matter what you end up wearing on stage, there is a reason for it. I promise I want everyone to look their best and stay within the character. Sharing ideas. Theatre is a collaborative process. While I may have a lot of ideas about the show, this is YOUR show. I want you to make it your own. After all, YOU are the ones on stage performing. If you have an idea, feel free to suggest. It may work, it might not, but trying new things is what theatre is all about! Our first rehearsal is Monday, April 12. I am asking that students cast in principal roles come to that rehearsal familiar with the script. I will also give each principal character a CD of the show so they can become familiar with their solo songs. Since we lose a week of rehearsal, please PRACTICE OVER SPRING BREAK. The more you practice, the better the show will be.

4 IMPORTANT!!! Please list any and all known conflicts on the back for scheduling purposes. (Vacations, doctors appointments, scouts, etc.) Rehearsals will be held on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays after school from 3:30-5:00 until the week of May 24. Starting then, we will rehearse each day. Performances are Friday, June 4-Sunday, June 6. Please list all known conflicts at this time (dates AND times). You may attach another sheet if necessary. Anything else you think I should know about? (health issues that may prevent you from doing some choreography, allergies to fabrics/paints, etc.)
