2 Dear Musical Families, We are so excited to have your student be a part of our MS Musical The Little Mermaid, Jr. Because we are not having a parent meeting we want to introduce ourselves and make note of some rehearsal/performance details. Mrs. Gray-Roll is the music director and co-director, she is also the choir director for St. Joseph Public schools. She holds a Music Education Masters from Western Michigan University and her BA in Music Education from Central Michigan University. Mrs. Richards is the choreographer and co-director and is the general music teacher at EP Clarke and Lincoln Elementary. She holds a BA in Music Education from Western Michigan University. Both Mrs. Gray- Roll and Mrs. Richards direct the HS musicals as well and have been working hard to build this program for the future of St. Joseph students. In the audition packet we have included the schedule for all the practices. Please note that we may not have called your student for each practice, so when they are called it is important we have their attendance. We both are very flexible and want your students to be a well-rounded individual so please let us know if there are any conflicts so we can work with your student. We also want to keep your student safe and need to know if they are coming late, not able to attend practice, need to picked up early, etc. We normally have a large cast and if those conflicts or changes can be written down ahead of time or ed, we will feel more comfortable about knowing where students are. We will need some parent volunteers for small jobs/help during the practices and performances and the information and forms are included. Make sure she has your correct contact information to ensure you get all the information you need! We can t wait to get started and put on a wonderful show where we hope your student will grow as a musician and performer. 3 DESCRIPTION FOR AUDITIONS: Scenes/character: In the three days prior to auditions (March 12-14), we will be running through scenes for practice. Mrs. Gray-Roll and Mrs. Richards will give feedback this is just practice and will not count for your audition. On Thursday or Friday, we will ask you to read for one or more characters for the audition. Be creative! Use facial expression, vocal in lection, body movement, and use the stage. We know you will just be reading and will not hold word mistakes against you, we just want to see you act! Music Auditions : Three songs will be taught during the three days prior to auditions: Part of Your World, Under the Sea, and One Step Closer. You are able to choose a portion of one of those songs for your audition. If you are not able to make it to the rehearsals prior, just sing something that will showcase your voice! Dance Auditions : Everyone in this show will dance in this show, so your dance does not need to be perfect! We just need to see how each of you moves, and there may be certain roles that require more or less dif icult dancing ability. We will also be looking for 1-2 students to be dance captains. Please indicate on your audition form if this is something you are interested in. You will be required to help review dances with other students once they are learned, and may have opportunity for some student choreography. Break a leg and HAVE FUN! CASTING RESULTS: The Cast list will be posted outside the Choir room on the bulletin board Monday, March 19. Everyone is called on Tuesday March 20th for a read through. SCHEDULING: Please check your personal calendar for other commitments. Plan ahead! If there are any con licts, please write them on your audition form. Please be aware that if you miss any major blocking, choreography, or music, you will be expected to get together with someone and learn it before the next rehearsal for that number. If you miss a large amount of rehearsal, please understand that you may be cut from certain numbers. We will be as lexible as we can, but you need to put in the work needed to make this a successful production. REGISTRATION FEE: There is a $45 pay-to-play participation fee. This will help us to cover costumes, props, set, etc. It will also pay for your Little Mermaid t-shirt. This fee will be due on the day you audition when you turn in your audition/registration form. ** If you are having difficult coming up with this payment please don t hesitate to talk to Mrs. Gray-Roll or Mrs. Richards or Mrs. Burkett.
