1 Welcome to the Waterford Corsairs 2018 Season Sign Up: Sign Up Fees - $250/each + Jersey $50 (jerseys are yours to keep) for football players and $275 each for Cheerleaders. Other siblings receive a $50 discount ($50 non-refundable registration fee) Full payment due on or before equipment pick up date. Equipment will not be handed out until all fees are paid in full. Two checks for $250, one for an Equipment Deposit and one for a Volunteer Deposit, (to be held and deposited only in the event equipment is not fully returned and in the originally received condition or Volunteer requirements are not fulfilled by parents or others, respectively). Each family will be required to sign a code of conduct form as well as a concussion acknowledgment form Each Family is required to fulfill 10 volunteer hours, 2 of which need to be done in the concession stand. As the schedule is released, our team parent coordinator will be available to sign up for time slots and positions. ABSOLUTELY NO REFUNDS AFTER THE COMPLETION OF THE SECOND WEEK OF PRACTICE NO EXCEPTIONS. A PHYSICAL WILL BE REQUIRED FOR ALL PARTICIPANTS BY THE FIRST DAY OF PRACTICE NO EXCEPTIONS. Physicals must be dated after 4/15/17 Practice Football and Cheerleading practice will be held at Rotary Park on Tubbs Rd. Practice begins on August 7, 2017 Practice is from 5:30-8:00 pm Monday through Friday. As the season progresses, the time will be shortened to accommodate the lack of daytime hours. You will be notified of any changes. Once the games begin there will be no Monday practice. Practice will be held rain or shine. Do not call your coach regarding cancellations; practice will be cancelled at the field. If lightening is spotted, the players will be moved to the picnic shelter. Parents will be expected to return to the practice field if the weather in the area becomes threatening. Please be on time for practice. If there is a problem, such as a conflicting work or school schedule that may prevent your child from being on time, please let your coach or team parent know so that arrangements can be made. Once the season begins, Cheerleading practice may be moved to a different location, such as a local school gym. If this does occur, the coaches will notify you of the new location. Cheerleaders should come to practice in comfortable clothing. No high heels or tight jeans are allowed. Only tennis shoes with low heels should be worn. Cheerleaders should come to practice prepared for all types of weather. 1
2 Football Players and Cheerleaders are members of a team. In order for a practice to be beneficial, it is important for team members to be present. Football players do not need to wear full pads on the first 3 days of practice; only helmets will be required. The coaches will tell the players when they should start to wear full pads. Attendance Policy for Cheerleaders and Football Players: All football players and Cheerleaders must attend all practices. An Unexcused absence will result as follows: - 1 unexcused absence within a week will result in not playing the first half of the game. - 2 unexcused absences within a week will result in not playing the entire game. An Excused absence is a player missing practice because of a certain situation. That player or parent must contact the coach prior to the start of the practice. The coach will decide whether or not that player will participate in a game. Camp dates for Football and Cheer: Monday, July 31 st thru August 4th from 5:30 PM until 7:30 PM. Cost for camp is $40.00 and will be held at Rotary Park on Tubbs Rd. Wear comfortable clothes and gym shoes or cleats. No jeans. No football equipment is necessary. Bring water. Equipment: Football Waterford Corsairs will provide the following equipment: Helmet Thigh Pads Tail Pad Game Pants Hip Pads Shoulder Pads Knee Pads Practice Pants Parents must provide the following: Athletic Supporter 1 Shoes 2 Mouth Guard 3 Girdle 4 Practice Jersey 5 Optional equipment: Rib Pads 5 Neck Guard 5 Arm Pads 5 1. Required at all practices and games. Must have both cup and supporter. 2. No metal cleats. Cleats can be the removable type not to exceed ½. 3. Must be attached to the face mask. Can not be the color white or clear. 4. Holds tail and hip pads. 5. Optional Equipment: It is suggested that parents speak with the coach prior to purchasing any optional items. 2
3 Cheerleading Waterford Corsairs will provide the following: Skirt Vest Pompons Socks & bows Parents must provide the following: Shoes Midriff Sports bra Gloves Briefs Warmups Expectations: We expect participants to: 1. Be on the field ready to practice at the assigned time. 2. Be picked up on time. 3. Eat light before practice. No milk or soda prior to practice. 4. Bring a water bottle and a good attitude to every practice. 5. Be responsible for all assigned equipment and uniforms. 6. Conduct yourself in an appropriate manner at all times. 7. Be respectful to all coaches, volunteers, parents and participants. 8. Strive to do your best at all times, be disciplined and determined. 9. Do well in school. This is a priority. We expect parents to: 10. Participate in any way you can. 11. Arrange for timely transportation to and from practice. 12. Attend all parent meetings. 13. Turn in physical and completed registration paperwork by the first day of practice. 14. Volunteer to help when you can. 15. Give organization feedback. Ask questions and get involved. 16. Assist in the maintenance of uniforms. (please do not bleach). You can expect the Waterford Corsairs to: 17. Provide all uniforms and poms for the cheerleaders. 18. Teach the fundamental basics as well as techniques for improvement. 19. Promote safety. 20. Teach, promote and reinforce good sportsmanship. 3
4 21. Teach, promote and reinforce what it means to be a team player, how to cooperate with others, and how to respect their teammates and themselves. 22. Be receptive to your suggestions. 23. Provide leadership opportunities for parents and participants. 24. Respond to the concerns that are brought to the attention of the board. Game Day: Home games are played at Kettering High School or Mott High School. You will be notified if there are any changes. Most games are played on Saturday. Due to the growth of the OMYFA, some games will be played on Sunday. Game times are to be announced after the season schedule is set. Football players are expected to be at the game field and checked in with their coaches 90 minutes prior to game time. Players that are late or have missed practices may have to sit out part of the game. Players will be weighed in prior to each game. Any player who is late to weigh in will miss the first half of that day s game. Any player not making the weight requirements will not be allowed to play in that day s game. Cheerleaders are to be at the game field and checked in with the coaches approximately 60 minutes before game time. Cheerleaders should note that if they are late, they may be asked to sit out one full quarter. No jewelry or makeup allowed on game day, this includes nail polish. Spirit face painting is allowed at games only if it is approved by the head coach first. All Football players and Cheerleaders are expected to have their complete uniform with them at all games. If a Football player or Cheerleader does not have a complete uniform or does not have all the required equipment, they will be unable to participate during a game. Driving directions for away games will be provided in the weekly newsletter on the Thursday prior to the game. It is the parents responsibility to know where we are playing each week, and to get their child to the game on time. 4
5 General Information: Equipment handout for football will be the first week of practice Uniform handout for cheer will be announced. All paperwork must be completed by the first day of practice. Those who have not completed their registration will not be allowed to practice. Practice field concessions will be open each evening during practice. Foods, snacks, candy and drinks may be purchased. A weekly newsletter will be distributed to Football players and Cheerleaders on Thursdays. Profanity will not be tolerated at any time. Parents should notify their child s coach if their schoolwork is starting to suffer during the season. Only team members are allowed on the practice field. We ask that you do not disturb a player during practice at any time. Siblings and friends are allowed at the field only with parental supervision. Special Events: Parent Appreciation Day takes place at one of our home games during the season. The Corsairs hold an Awards Banquet each year at the end of the season. All participants will receive trophies. This is an event for the entire family. Tickets will need to be purchased; you will be notified when they are available for purchase. Corsairs offer many items for sale that show our Corsair spirit. See our Clothing Director regarding these purchases. No siblings will be allowed to wear jerseys. You will need to purchase clothing for them in order to show their Corsair Pride. 5
