TUCKER CHEERLEADING Contact: RULES & STANDARDS All cheerleaders are expected to display responsible behavior as outlined in the HCPS Code of Conduct & the J.R. Tucker student handbook. Cheerleaders must be cooperative & ladylike at all times, not only at school and events. You are always representing JRT! Cheerleaders must always cooperate with all faculty members, squad members, game ofoicials and coaches. Promoting good sportsmanship by way of example is required at all times. Cheerleaders must not use foul language at practices, in school, at games, camp or competitions, etc. Cheerleaders must display proper behavior in class, including being on time, not skipping and not cheating. Cheerleaders must be seen and present themselves as models for others, especially for those very young girls cheering along at games, and must act as such at all times. Academics come Oirst, then cheerleading. Since schedules and commitments will be announced in as much advanced notice as possible, tests and studying are not excused absences. *ONLY ILLNESS & EMERGENCIES WILL BE EXCUSED. *see absences section Cheerleaders are expected to promote school spirit. They will attend events such as fee nights, pep rallies, fund raisers, etc. and be active in promoting spirit at all school events. Fundraising is an important aspect of cheerleading and school spirit in general. It is imperative that each cheerleader actively fundraises as directed throughout the year. Fundraising starts almost immediately after tryouts and will most likely end before basketball season begins, although special fundraisers may be called for. Each cheerleader is responsible for their own transportation to and from home games. You should arrive when the coaches/captains tell you to and be picked up promptly at the end of the game. Cheerleaders must travel to and from JRT away games at arranged times together on the school provided bus. You should arrive to games on time and in full uniform. You will not be allowed to Oinish getting ready after the assigned arrival time. You must be back and ready to cheer at the end of halftime 2 minutes before the game starts again. All cell phones must be off/away during practices, games, events, fundraisers, etc. Each case of discipline will be judged individually. The coach, with the assistance of the administration if deemed necessary, has the Oinal decision in any disciplinary situation.

3 Every attempt will be made to discipline fairly/equally, and to make consequences of actions known ahead of time. Parents will be kept informed of problem situations. Severity of, or repeated offenses may dictate harsher action. REGULATIONS According to VHSL, each cheerleader must take & PASS a minimum of =ive subjects each semester to be eligible. Cheerleaders are required to attend ALL practices, games, meetings, and pep rallies. If absent from school, you may not participate in the days activities and must notify a coach as soon as possible. Absences that are not related to illness or emergencies, or are unexcused will result in a disciplinary action. You must contact the coach ahead of time if you know you will be absent from a practice, game, meeting, etc. due to illness or absence from school. Taping or visiting the trainer must be done before practice begins. Cheerleaders must pass a physical examination and submit a complete physical form. This MUST be completed AFTER MAY 1, 2013, dated and signed by a physician. **Please be aware there is a revised physical form for Make sure you have the right copy. You can receive a copy from the front ofoice or online at the JRT athletic website. Cheerleaders may not have jobs that conolicts with their cheerleading schedule. Absences due to work will be unexcused and result in disciplinary action. Chewing gum while cheering or practicing is prohibited. Cheerleaders must be quiet and attentive to coaches and captains during meetings, practices, pep rallies, games, etc. If a cheerleader knows ahead of time that he/she will not be cheering due to a disciplinary action, he/she still wears their uniform to school and to the game. He/She is required to come to the game and sit with the coach and cheer with the squad from the bleachers. When in uniform, whether at school or cheerleading events, it may not be altered in any way. This includes wearing jackets and sweatshirts that are not JRT CHEER related. No UGGS or boots should be worn. The head coach/captains will assign uniforms and outoits for every game, event, and occasion. You MUST wear every piece assigned. This means every cheerleader MUST wear the same bow, shoes, socks, crops, briefs, warm- ups and anything else the coaches deem Oit. All hair must be in a ponytail and out of their face, NO EXCEPTIONS!! No jewelry will be permitted. During basketball season, the squads will cheer at games in teams assigned by the coaches. The end of basketball season is determined by success in tournament play. Please do not schedule any activities that interfere with this! ABSENCES One person being absent affects the entire squad. It is important not to inconvenience the practice time of the entire squad by being absent or excessively late. PARENTS: Please, do not punish your child by taking cheerleading away! It hurts the whole team. Absences should always be avoided when possible. Please try not to schedule vacations in August. This is when we will be doing camp, choreography, and practices. It is hard to accomplish much with even one person absent. Absences must be excused prior to practice or game. You must have a note from a doctor if you had an appointment; or to the head coach from you or your parent if you are sick. Failures to notify your coach will result in an automatic disciplinary action.

4 Missing a scheduled practice the day before a game or pep rally will result in the individual not performing/cheering at the game or pep rally. Absences due to work schedules are unexcused. Jobs must work around your cheerleading schedule. Attendance at a game or practice without proper shoes, clothes or uniform will be considered an absence. You will also not be able to cheer at the game. COMMUNICATION Important announcements and sudden changes are easiest communicated through . Please make note on your contact sheet if you do NOT check your regularly. I will major updates and season changes through . Pease provide a valid that you check often. All updates and announcements will also be available for view on the JRT cheerleading website. Captains are responsible for relaying any information the coach has told them to share with the rest of their team. Calendars will be made and distributed at practices, through , and on the cheer website as much in advance as possible. Eligible candidates must have cheered at Tucker for at least 1 year, juniors or seniors, must be in good standing and display leadership qualities. Varsity candidates will receive an application and short essay to complete. JV: The coaching staff will choose captains. Eligible candidates must be a sophomore and have cheered at Tucker for one year. JV Candidates will be given an application and short essay to complete. CAMP Middle of July at UNC Chapel Hill. It will be a Spirit Express camp. It is not mandatory, however we highly encourage all cheerleaders to attend as this is a great bonding experience for the entire team. FUNDRAISING Fundraising is an important aspect that pays for the programs many needs; from camp, transportation to camp, uniforms, supplies for events, etc. Our Goals For This Year: Fundraise enough to (1) cut camp costs, (2) pay for awesome choreography & music, and (3) save money for new uniforms. Fall Sports Program Ads: We sell ad space during the summer to area businesses to raise money for our program. This is the biggest and longest running fundraiser that we make most of our money off of!! This year we want to sell way more to accomplish our goals! Each cheerleader must sell a

5 minimum of $500 in ad spaces. This is a very easy goal. Exceeding this limit is encouraged and highly recommended. I will provide more information at a later date. Car Washes will be held throughout July, August, and September. Dates TBA. Other fundraisers are TBA. UNIFORMS Uniforms are school property and may not be altered permanently. Alterations may be made if they are not permanent and are taken out prior the season s end. To clean: Machine wash on cold and lay Olat or hang to dry. No dry cleaning. Please take good care of your uniforms. Many years of fundraising and careful planning resulted in having the nice uniforms we get to wear today. Failure to turn in assigned uniforms will result in being put on the school s obligation list until it is received. This means you will not be able to walk at graduation until you have settled any obligations with the school or previously attended school(s).
