THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING THIS IMPORTANT FUNDRAISER TO BENEFIT THE DeLAND NAVAL AIR STATION MUSEUM. We have another great line-up for our raffle and silent auction fundraiser during the event. Tickets will be on sale for our raffle and bids taken for silent auction items to support the museum. A few of the items include a Three Day, Two Night Stay at the beautiful oceanfront Bahama House and the Best Western Aku Tiki Inn in Daytona Beach, $200 voucher for a cruise, one year membership Volusia/Flagler YMCA, tandem skydive, Disney World Park Hopper Tickets, Sea World and Aquatica Tickets, a basket of official New York Yankee items, an autographed baseball by New York Yankee Brett Gardner, wine basket, mini peace theme holiday tree, patriotic watch and many more great items. Tickets for the raffle will be $5.00 for (6) tickets or $20 for (26) tickets and we hope everyone will buy tickets or place a bid. Cash or checks accepted for raffle and silent auction items.

4 PAGE 4 D ELANDINGS OCTOBER, 2017 NAVAL AIR STATION MU SEUM, DELAND, FL ORID A HAPPY 101st BIRTHDAY VIRGINIA SCHIALDONE Our very own Rosie the Riveter Virginia Schialdone of DeLand turned 101 years old on September 19th. During WWII, Virginia was one of millions of women who worked in traditionally male-dominated roles as part of the war effort. She worked at United Engineering in Niles, Ohio on 105 MM Howitzer gun assembly. By 1945, more than 18 million women were in the workforce. As she does each year, Virginia is planning to attend the 26th Big Band Dance on November 10, 2017.

5 PAGE 5 DELANDINGS OCTOBER, 2017 NAVAL AIR STATION MU SEUM, DELAND, FLORIDA DNASM Volunteers participated again in the Embry Riddle Aeronautical University Activities Fair on campus in Daytona Beach. Our thanks to Harold Bradeen and Isaiah Carlton for transporting the DNAS Museum Korean MASH Helicopter to the event. As a result of the Riddle Redeemer Student Club and DNAS Museum tent display, more than 60 new students signed up to volunteer at the museum. Below, sixteen new students arrived at the museum on Saturday, September 23, 2017 to receive an orientation and review the available assignments. We are so proud of our student volunteers who continue to provide valuable assistance on our restoration projects and fundraisers, while they learn new skills working with our Veterans and Volunteers.

6 PAGE 6 D ELANDINGS OCTOBER, 2017 NAVAL AIR STATION MU SEUM, DELAND, FL ORID A On Saturday, September 23, 2017, the DeLand Naval Air Station Museum Volunteers participated in the 13th Annual Smithsonian Day Live event. Museums from around the country signed up to offer free entry for the day. The DNAS Museum does not charge for tours and relies on support from public donations only. Our Volunteers worked hard to clean hurricane debris and unwrap the memorabilia covered before the storm to prepare for our visitors. Visitors from throughout Volusia and other counties and states stopped by the museum. Both adults and youth were given a guided tour of the museum complex. Many thanks to all of our Volunteers who helped prepare the museum complex prior to the storm and the clean-up afterwards. Our Volunteers boarded up windows, tied down aircraft, secured the PTF3 Patrol Boat, braced the hangar doors, moved objects from the yard and covered the memorabilia collection in preparation for Hurricane Irma. As a result of the storm, the museum received minor damage to the roof which has been repaired. Our thanks to the City of DeLand for their assistance.
