The truth of those words speaks to us in this new year of As I think about Rehoboth s theme,, we are all learning to walk in His ways and bear fruit that will bring His Shalom and build His kingdom now. UPCOMING EVENTS Mon., 02/02 Education Committee Meeting INs & OUTs Those two young 8th graders reflected on how they had taken all kinds of steps that year: small steps, giant steps, hesitant steps, and bold steps. We too seek to follow Him step by step. God continues to lead through the good times and the difficult times. We may feel we are walking blindly, unsure and hesitant about our next step. We may not know what direction to go and the future may seem uncertain. There may be a serious health issue, uncertainty about where the next paycheck will come from, a relationship that seems to be pulling apart, or other concerns. But even during these times, God continues to be our Light and bids us to walk in His ways so we may grow in faith and trust. He promises to direct our steps and to lead us when we seek Him. We are in the season of Epiphany according to the church calendar. This season challenges us as Christians to open our eyes to see the God of Light working in a dark world. This past week I stumbled upon the 8th grade graduation speech given by my daughter and one of her classmates way back in Using the song Step by Step written by Rich Mullins, they reflected on how God had led them step by step through their middle school years. The chorus of that song reads: I am so thankful for this Rehoboth family. We can be an encouragement to each other as we walk step by step, guided by His light through this journey called life. 2 ELEMENTARY EVENTS Lost and Found With the cold mornings and warmer afternoons you may notice your child(ren) not coming home with their coats and / or sweat shirts etc.. We have a mound of clothing in our Lost and Found cupboard, so please encourage your child to check it out and bring home any clothes that have been left here at school. It is a great idea to write names on inside tags so clothing can be returned to their rightful owners. Thank you for your help!! Fine Arts Fair We are beginning to plan for our Fine Arts Fair that will happen on Thursday, March 12. One of the arts we would like to highlight is the performing arts. We are encouraging any elementary student to participate by demonstrating a talent that they may have during that evening. It could be something done as a solo, a small group performance, or a larger group piece (teachers may help with this). Each performance would be limited to 3 minutes. Please talk with your child and discuss possibilities. This is an optional performance but we would love to see as many participate as possible. Thank you for your help. Important Dates: Mon., 02/16 No School President s Day Jim Holwerda, Elementary Principal MIDDLE SCHOOL MATTERS Geography Bee - Today the MS Geography Bee took place. Results will be printed in next week Middle School Matters. Homecoming Spirit Week - Next week is Spirit Week. The middle school is going to participate in daily themes and each class is going to show that they have a lot of spirit. The week s themes include: Marvel Monday - dress like a superhero. Twin Tuesday - dress the same as a classmate. Want to be a Very Smart Individual Wednesday-dress like a nerd. Formal Thursday - dress up. Spirit Friday - wear Rehoboth colors and apparel. Middle School Snacks - Thanks to those that have brought in snacks for break! If you want to bring some by for the middle school students, please drop them off to Mrs DeYoung s office. Basketball - The regular season has wrapped up. The A teams are involved in a tournament in the upcoming weeks. The A team girls are playing at Rehoboth on January 30 and 31st. The A team boys tournament will be February 12 through 14 at Fort Wingate. Basketball Concessions - Thank you to ALL of the families that have donated to the concession stand for the Rehoboth Basketball game. The last game that we will do concessions is this Friday, January 30. Thanks for your constant support of our middle school athletic teams! Next week is Homecoming week, which means it will be Spirit week in the high school. We will have dress up day each day for the high school. See the schedule below. Parents are welcome to attend if they desire. After the varsity basketball game on Friday night the winning class of Spirit week will be announced and the Homecoming court will be recognized.

3 Netclassroom and the second semester Throughout the second semester I encourage you to take the advantage of logging into Netclassroom to keep up with your student s grades. As we start the second semester your student s grades can be found under Quarter 4 throughout the semester. This is where assignments will be added and grades will be updated through the semester. To make this appear on the home screen when you log in, click on My Settings and select Quarter 4 from the pull down menu titled Show averages using: Be sure to click on Save. Doing this will cause the correct, most up to date grades to appear on the home screen when you log in. High School Track -First day of practice is Monday February 9. Meet at 3:35 in the SFC. Homecoming alumni mingle will need concession donations. The following items are needed to make the concession and Alumni mingle to run smoothly during homecoming. Several cases of Aquafina 20 oz water Several cases of 20 oz Gatorade (fruit punch, melon, frost both white and blue, lemon lime, etc.) Boxes of candies Veggie trays s strawberries, grapes (red & green), Kiwi, berries, etc. COLLEGE CORNER College Horizons is a 6-day crash course for Native American students in preparing for the college application process. At College Horizons you will experience college life, select colleges for you to apply to, write college essays, complete the common application and the FAFSA, take test taking strategies for the ACT and begin searching for financial aid. This year s schedule is Bowdoin College in Brunswick, ME June and Stanford University in CA July The application deadline is February 4, 2015 and you can apply at ADMISSIONS FREE half day Pre-K - the State of NM has challenged us to fill our half day sessions! We are offering second semester FREE to students enrolled in the morning or in the afternoon program. Spots may fill up quickly, so send your friends from church, your relatives, and neighbors to Lorretta right away. ALL SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS The Dordt College Band from Northwest Iowa will be performing at Rehoboth Church on Saturday, March 7 at 7:00 pm. We are looking for host families for these college students and chaperones. Please contact Bob Ippel at bippel@rcsnm.org or at if you are able to house two or more college students for one night. Flu Season Reminder: Let s work together to prevent the preventable. If your child is ill and running a fever please do not send them to school. Keep them with a caregiver until their temperature is back to normal. We want to keep our student body as healthy as possible during these winter months. 4 FOOD SERVICE March 16, 2015 at 6:30 -We invite you to join us in the Sports and Fitness Center Main Gym for an evening of celebration as we raise money to build a new high school and praise God for the journey He has placed before us in the Preparing the Way Campaign. If you are able to join us, please register and purchase your tickets ($25 each) online at The evening will include entertainment, an assortment of appetizers and desserts with a time to mingle and hear more about the needs of the new building. We look forward to celebrating with you! If you plan on attending, please register by Friday, Mar 13 so that we can have an accurate head count for food and space. 5 ATHLETICS Baseball Club Coach Needed: Rehoboth Christian High School is looking for committed Christian to coach our Baseball Club this spring. If you are passionate about positively impacting the lives of young athletes in an encouraging and meaningful way, then Rehoboth Christian High School might be a good fit for you. This is a volunteer position. Those focused on pursuing excellence in coaching should forward a resume to Adrian Pete the Athletic Director. Homecoming Pancake Breakfast: The annual Pancake Breakfast, will be held this year at the RCS Fellowship Hall from 7:00 to 10am. This year we will have all you can eat Pancakes only.
