PPsldkjncHS Produced by Palestine High School Printing and Imaging Technology: Ana Balderas Rozi Balderas The Palestine ISD National Junior Honor Society is sponsoring a district-wide Thanksgiving Food Drive. The food drive began this week and will go through Friday, November 15 th. Some of the donations will be used to provide a Thanksgiving meal for 12 Palestine ISD students/ families. All remaining donations will be given to the local food pantry. On Tuesday, November 5 th, Anderson County will hold a Constitutional Amendment Election. For the first time, voters will be required to present an acceptable form of photo ID before voting. The ID must not be expired more than 60 days. For more information regarding the election, visit the Anderson County Elections Office website at elections and select the Election Information link. Congratulations to Palestine ISD athletes! The PHS Cross Country Boys Varsity and Junior Wildcat Weekly Message from the Superintendent: Jason Marshall Varsity teams won their 8 th District Championship in a row at the District Cross Country meet in Fairfield this week. The girls Cross Country team was District Runner-up. This was the ninth year in a row that both the boys and girls Cross Country teams have qualified for the regional meet. Our LadyCats Volleyball team made the playoffs and a win tonight against Groesbeck will place our Wildcat Football team in the playoffs. The Palestine Wildcat Band along with the Kik-Kat Drill Team will march in the Hot Pepper Festival Parade this Saturday morning, October 26 th at 10:00 am. The parade will begin at the Anderson County Courthouse and travel down Avenue A to Main Street, then Queen Street to Lacy Street and back to the courthouse square. This is expected to be the biggest parade in quite a while with lots of festival activities afterward. I enjoyed visiting with everyone during our Lunches in the Lounge this week. I look forward to seeing everyone else next week.

2 Go Wildcats Palestine Athletics Lance Angel: Athletic Director SCRATCH EM CATS! CROSS COUNTRY Varsity Girls and Boys advanced to regionals for the 9th year in a row! Boys Varsity and JV teams won their 8th district title in a row!! We had well over 100 kids compete in Cross Country this year from both the Junior High and High School combined. PAW PALS The Paw Pals from ECC attended the PHS Pep-Rally Friday morning. You could feel the electricity in the air as some of Palestine s youngest Wildcats cheered our team on to victory. They brought home a lot of hardware this year and we are very proud of their hard work and dedication. Good luck to the varsity teams on November 2nd when they travel to Humble to compete in the regional meet. 3 Palestine High School William Stewart: Principal KIND CAMPAIGN LEADERS of TOMORROW BODY WRAP Female students from all over Anderson County met at the Civic Center for the Kind Campaign. The Campaign focused on showing students how to treat each other with kindness. The two presenters, Lauren Parsekian and Molly Thompson, helped the girls realize how with a few mean words you can permanently hurt a girl, but with a few kind words you can help a girl. Trinity Valley Community College will honor three of our seniors who have been student leaders at Palestine High School at the annual Leaders of Tomorrow banquet. This year Breanna Jackson received the most nominations from the faculty and staff and will represent PHS as the Leader of Tomorrow. Breanna will receive a trophy, a book on leadership and a certificate. Eli West and Trevon Jones will represent PHS as runners-up. They will receive a certificate and a book on leadership. These students and their families will be honored at the awards conference at TVCC in Athens on Friday, November 1, This is an exciting honor for our students and a great addition to their resume. Congratulations to these 3 outstanding WILDCATS!!!! Congratulations to Monse Anguiano, a senior student enrolled in PHS Cosmetology/CTE. Monse earned two certifications over the weekend while attending Cosmeceuticals International convention in Richardson, Texas. Monse is now a Certified Skin Care Specialist along with a certificate of completion in Contour Body Wrap Techniques. You just can't hide that Wildcat Pride! SCHOOLHOUSE ROCK LIVE! The Palestine High School Theatre Department presented their Fall musical "Schoolhouse Rock, Live!" Friday October 11,Saturday October 12 andsunday October 14 in the PHS Auditorium. The musical was based on the Saturday morning cartoon and included the classics like, Conjunction Junction, Mother Necessity, Elbow Room, and The Preamble, as well as, I'm Just a Bill.

4 Palestine Junior High School Larissa Loveless: Principal A,B Honor Roll This week, Jr. High students that made the A, B Honor Roll were treated to cake and punch for their Great Achievements. We are so proud of our students for working so hard. KIND CAMPAIGN The Jr High girls Attended the KIND CAMPAIGN at the Civic Center along with a few other Anderson County schools. The campaign is an international program that promotes kindness and reports Girl against Girl Crime. They will also be joining the Kiwanis Club for a trick or treat fundraiser to benefit UNICEF.

5 A.M Story Intermediate School Amanda Jackson: Principal Recognizing Reading! Students are reading, reading, reading. This is evidenced by our students who were winners of a recent puppet contest. Our librarian featured Balloons over Broadway: The True Story of the Puppeteer of Macy s Parade. As a result these students were inspired to create their own puppets. Additionally, three more students completed the Bluebonnet Challenge. Another student was the first to solve the mystery of the Revolting Revenge of the Radioactive Robo-Boxers. Another student is reading one of Mrs. Jackson s favorites!! Watch out for our D.O.G.S! Science Connections They are coming soon to our campus! Our learning community is making connections to everyday science.

6 Southside Elementary School Stephen Cooksey: Principal Students are Diving into Learning here at Southside Elementary! Think College Thursady Each week Southside Elementary recognizes Think College Thursday Students participate by wearing their favorite college t-shirt and have an opportunity to learn about furthering their education. Kidz Science Safari This week Southside played host to the Kidz Science Safari which focuses on Newton s Laws and Principals of Physics. Our students simply see it as SUPER FUN way to learn about Science!! NHS Little Buddies Also this week, the Palestine High School NHS club adopted one of our classes as Little Buddies. Our kids absolutely loved Reading and spending time with their new friends!! Special Thanks to Mrs. Masters for making this event possible.

8 Early Childhood Center Rhonda Herrington: Principal Clifford Clifford, the Big Red Dog will be visiting. The students are looking forward to having their picture with him. Clifford is a book series that was first published in 1963, written by Norman Birdwell. Clifford was the runt of a litter of puppies and was chosen by a city child named Emily Elizabeth as her birthday present. No one expected him to grow, but Emily s love for her tiny red puppy changed him dramatically. Before long, he was over 25 feet tall, forcing the Howard family to leave the city and move to the open spaces of Birdwell Island. Clifford meets friends there and begins his adventures. Students were busy this week working on phonological awareness, and letter knowledge, along with comparing attributes and heights and lengths. Police Pictures ECC students finished up their week with their Community Helpers with the help of Officer Lara from the Palestine Police Department. Officer Lara brought his police car and talked to the students about what a policeman does. The students enjoyed making the siren and lights work on the police car.
