Sports Update Daniel Veres, Athletic Director Spring is here, and we are in full swing getting into our last season of this school year. This season our soccer squads have taken on the tough challenge of stepping up our schedules to prepare better for the post season. There aren t any teams in Alabama that have played as tough of an early season schedule as we have. All of these tough contests are not only getting us geared up to play on the level expected in the play-offs, but also have us primed and ready now as we step into area play. Both varsity teams have started area play with a bang. We are undefeated on both sides as we work towards Easter. The younger levels of soccer are continuing to grow our programs in the way we want to continue forward. The team s coaches are focusing hard on sharpening skills as we try to prepare these younger athletes for what lies ahead in their career. We want to build programs that will continue to flourish year after year, and the only way to do this is to always have an eye to the future. Both of the boy s teams capped their year with a tournament this past weekend. The freshman team played well, and brought home second place with a 3-1 record. Baseball has started and both the varsity and junior varsity sides have had mixed results. Baseball has probably seen the most difficulty recently, as we have really struggled. We will continue to keep the program as stable as possible as we try to build from the younger ranks, just as some of our other programs have done. Building something isn t always easy... (see Athletic Complex), but we will do everything in our power to make our program great. The softball program, under the new leadership of Coach Whitney Toole has played well early in their season. The young ladies are experiencing practices like they never had in the past. They are working out under the watchful eye of their coaches, but also under the tutelage of Coach J it was tough early, but they are beginning to find their groove and understand the value of the work they are putting in to their games. We play in one of the toughest areas in the state, and we have shown a lot of grit. A couple close losses and a blowout win as of now in area play. We feel really confidant in how we are playing, and we are really looking forward to the back half of the season. The golf team started the season with a little inconsistency. There have been some high individual finishes, but we haven t quite been able to dial in the bottom of our team. Hopefully we can improve there for the push through the middle of the season. The Outdoor Track season is off and running and we have been very competitive. The coaches are working through a lot of athletes trying to find the right combination to compete in the State meet a month from now. Tennis season has kicked off, and this crazy weather has really done a number on their schedule. We are continuing to try and make up lost matches in anticipation of the Sectional tournament in the coming month. Hopefully the weather will start to cooperate! Please make some time and come out and support our Knights!
