1 Deer Park High School Escort Hopeful, How exciting that you have chosen to try out to be a part of the Deer Escorts at Deer Park High School. We look forward, with great anticipation, for the school year; complete with 9-12 th graders. We have big plans for next year and can t wait to share them with our new team. These memories, built from participation and involvement, will last a lifetime. There will be a meeting for the parents of all Hopefuls trying out for the Deer Escort dance team at Deer Park High School on Thursday, March 22, 2018, upstairs in the Coach s Meeting Room (close to the weight room which is above Watkin s Gym) from 6-7:30 p.m. Because of the time and monetary commitment involved with Deer Escorts, it is important that parents attend this meeting in order to understand the expectations of this program. As educators, we believe that an inherent part of scholastic maturity is gained by joining and actively participating in extracurricular functions. An individual's education encompasses much more than performing academic duties in a class. Drill team will offer one of the best avenues for young ladies to grow and mature. Drill team offers companionship while concurrently teaching discipline, perseverance and self-motivation. The result is a unified organization in which each member will have ownership and be honored to be a part. As the directors, we will be here to guide and direct you and the team towards success. We will have dreams, set goals, and work hard to attain them. There will be highs and lows, but, in the end, there will be a sense of accomplishment that some only dream of having. Workshops and judging sessions for Deer Escort candidates will be closed to the public with only directors, Deer Escort Officers and candidates present. 2 DEER PARK ESCORTS HOPEFUL TRYOUT TIPS 1. Attire: -Black leotard or tight fitting tank top (not spaghetti strap) -Black sports bra -Black leggings or booty shorts -Dance Paws, Foot Undies, or Turners no Jazz Shoes or colors 2. Hair: -Place your hair in a ponytail with bangs completely pulled back and off your forehead -Secure any loose hair with hairspray and bobby pins -A WHITE bow or ribbon will be required for the clinic and the tryouts 3. Make-Up: -Bright Red Lipstick every day for new hopefuls -Darker (performance) makeup for Thursday 4. Extra: -Jewelry and Gum are not allowed! -Please remove all nail polish and toenail polish for Thursday s tryout -Bring 4 safety pins to secure your tryout number (you will be given this on Monday) -You will keep up with your tryout number and be required to bring it everyday 5. Anticipate a possible call back and be ready in case the judges want to see any of the candidates more than once. 6. NO ONE will be allowed to try out without an application and a signed parent permission slip on file. This is due by Monday, March 26 th. You can bring this with you on the first day of auditions. 7. On the evening of tryouts, the results will be posted on the Deer Escort Website by 11:00 PM and posted on the door of the gym at 10:00 p.m. If you make the team, please look for a current officer to give you a letter. Please- no family and friends on the audition date. 8. Do your best to convince the judges and directors, through your smile and performance, how much you really want to be a Deer Escort!!! 9. Use of ladylike manners is expected during all Deer Escort functions, workshops, and tryouts. Responding with Yes Ma am, No Ma am, Please, and Thank You is appropriate.

3 DEER PARK HIGH SCHOOL DEER ESCORTS TRYOUT INFORMATION AND GUIDELINES The purpose of the drill team is to promote full participation in a unified, precision dance group while developing leadership, self-discipline, responsibility, school spirit, teamwork and a standard of excellence. Through the development of cooperation, a spirit of competitiveness, sportsmanship and positive relationships among all competitors, the organization shall fulfill its purpose. PARTICIPATION IN THE DRILL TEAM AS WELL AS ANY EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITY IS A PRIVILEGE NOT A RIGHT. THE STUDENT MUST MEET SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS IN ORDER TO BE SELECTED AND TO CONTINUE PARTICIPATION. Results posted at the conclusion of the tryouts, decisions are final. We will not be available to discuss the tryout until April 9th. Workshops preparing candidates for drill team selection will be held under the direction of Ms. Morrison and Mrs. Boren. All material required for tryouts, as well as the tryout procedure, will be taught during this time. Attendance is required (All week) for selection, as all candidates will be expected to demonstrate the same skills and routines as others. During the workshop, the following skills will be taught: A. Kick technique, stretches and combinations B. Split technique, stretches and combinations C. Jazz/Lyrical combinations including leaps, turns, and jumps D. Presentation posture, poise, facials, and projection CELL PHONES NEED TO REMAIN ON SILENT MODE DURING THIS WORKSHOP and PUT AWAY AT ALL TIMES

These classes only offered to help girls and NOT REQUIRED. They are strictly dance technique classes and kick technique classes. 6 PARENTAL CONSENT FORM *Due Monday, March 26 th My child,, and I have discussed the responsibilities of being a member of the drill team, such as cost, time involved, physical requirements and performance tryouts. I understand her obligations and responsibilities as a member and I will help and support her during her/his assignment for the entire year. I have reviewed the Deer Escort Expectations and agree to abide by it. I realize that if my child should make the team, she/he will NOT be guaranteed a spot in EACH performance. The directors choose who will be in the all Deer Escort performances. Making the team does NOT mean the member will dance in any set number of routines. I realize that the financial obligation must be met in a timely manner in order for my child to participate. I understand that each individual member must pay for her own drill team supplies, fees, travel, choreography, etc. It is the individual member s parents who are responsible for finding a means to cover the fees associated with drill team. There are NO REFUNDS if you make the team, pay your fees, and choose to quit or are removed from the team. *If the fees are not paid, that member will be placed on the fees and fines list with the school.
