We are off to a great start and we are looking forward to a producve year. We kicked off the school year with a Viking Pride assembly celebrang the start of the year and reminding our students they are part of a special Viking family. During the assembly we focused on being kind and working hard. Next week is Homecoming, and there will be many acvies taking place, both during and outside of school. Please come out and support our Viking students if you are able. We encourage our students to show their school spirit by parcipang in the spirit days, however please remember that the dress code is sll enforced, so make good choices! 2 Homecoming Week Ac1vi1es Wednesday, September 21st Powderpuff Football 5 pm, Viking Stadium Thursday, September 22nd Homecoming Parade Students will stage at Peterson Family Foods on Sherman and 12th Street between 2:30 & 3:00, and parade will begin at 3:30 pm. It will be along Sherman from 12th Street to just past the resort. Come and out support our CHS Viking Students! Friday, September 23rd Homecoming Football Game vs. Camas 7 pm, Viking Stadium. See Tricia in the front office to ensure that you will receive a yearbook at the end of the year. IMPORTANT! If you haven t had your picture taken yet, please don t miss this last chance. Every CHS student needs an ID Card, so even if you aren t purchasing school photos, please get your picture taken for the yearbook and your ID card. Compe11on Cheerleading Tryouts There is a Compeon Cheerleading tryout workshop scheduled for Thursday, September 29th from 3 5 pm in the commons. The official tryout is on Saturday, October 1st from 8 am noon. Please contact Coach Walker at lwalker@cdaschools.org if you have any ques- ons. Earn Money for Student Ac1vi1es! Concession Shifts Available Earn money for your student s school program, activity, teacher, etc. Every time you work in a concession stand, $10/hour is credited towards the activity of your choice. It s also a fun way to be involved at school, spend time with friends, and be in touch with what s going on at CHS. Concessions happen throughout the year. 4 Early Dismissal from School Policy Parents are strongly encouraged to schedule appointments before or after school. If, however, a student must be released during the school day, the student MUST bring a note to the office before their first period class. This note should include release time, student s full name, reason for absence, parent s phone number and signature. The student will then be given a Campus Pass, allowing the student to leave school at the time indicated on the pass. This is the least intrusive and most efficient process for the student, office staff, and classroom. Parents who choose to excuse their child by way of phone or Skyward should do so before the start of the school day and should direct their child to the office before the start of the school day for the purpose of acquiring a Campus Pass. Early dismissals that are not pre-arranged in the manner specified above may take up to 25-minutes to locate the student and to minimize disruptions to the classroom. Students who leave campus without first acquiring a Campus Pass will be considered truant. Students who return to school following an early dismissal must first go to the office for the purpose of checking in. Any student involved in forging notes or phone calls will require a legal guardian to be physically present for subsequent early dismissals. REMINDER: If your student is absent for the day please notify the school the morning they will be absent. Parents have up to 2 days to excuse absences. We appreciate your help keeping us informed of student absences!!

7 CHS Class of 2017 Senior Yearbook Informa1on Deadlines: Yearbook Prices: August 2015 December 16, 2016 Yearbook Pre-Purchase Price $60 Non-preorder purchases for possible extras in May- $65 (To pre-order, payment options are available, please see the bookkeeper in the front office) Senior Deadlines: September 23, 2016 Senior Portraits Due ($5 per business day late fee up to Oct. 16th ) October 31, 2016 Senior Tribute/Group Ads Due (aka baby ads) Senior Portraits: Regular school pictures will be taken by the school picture photographers during registration for all seniors. Seniors have the option to choose to purchase professional senior portraits in place of their school portrait. Professional portraits are not required; all seniors have the option to use their school photo. Professional senior portraits can be used to replace the school portrait. Student names will be listed as their legal name on file with the school as the day that senior portraits are due, name changes will not be made after this date. Sorry, no exceptions. Since the photo can be used legally for identification purposes, the following requirements will be in effect for any senior choosing to submit a professional portrait: Portrait format: Wallet size, typically 2X3 inches- larger file size better Vertical shot from the waist up (Horizontal portraits will not be published). No full length shots. (see examples below) Include only the senior (no props, animals, or other people) Can be inside or outside shot No soft focus Frontal view, student must be looking at camera, not taken from the side, above, or below- front view Professional quality (school photo will be used if portrait submitted is not professional quality/resolution) Name submitted with picture MUST be the legal name on file with the school Portraits may be cropped to fit Portraits must include at least all of head and shoulders. No close-up photos allowed Dress Code: School dress code will be enforced. Please review the dress code online in its entirety here: pdf Not following the dress code will prevent your portrait from being published. Notifications will not be given. Your school picture will be used instead. Submission format/instructions: Students are responsible for supplying this submission information to their photographers. All photos must be submitted by to btwitchell@cdaschools.org Files submitted by will receive a confirmation from the yearbook adviser btwitchell@cdaschools.org Digital portraits must be at least 300dpi in jpeg format (cell phone photos and facebook/social media files will not work). The deadline for portrait submission is Friday September 23, The most recent, available ID photo will be used in place of a senior portrait if a senior portrait is not submitted by the deadline or does not meet the above criteria. Final say on the appropriateness of all senior pictures is left to the discretion of the administration. Only students who are currently enrolled at CHS by the photo deadline will be included in the senior portraits section of the yearbook. The yearbook staff reserves the right to crop the picture as needed. A list of senior names who have submitted professional portraits by the deadline will be outside room 604 and will be updated weekly started with the first week of school. Please allow 24 hours for your name to appear. If your name does NOT show up on the list, please again. We can t be responsible for not publishing your professional photo if your name is not published on the list. We will also send out several s to seniors and senior parents the list of the names of approved senior portraits. Administration has final say on approval of senior portraits. Senior Ads: SENIOR TRIBUTE AD FINAL INFORMATION WILL BE CONFIRMED BY THE END OF THE SCHOOL. Senior ads give the parent or guardian, the opportunity to congratulate their student on his or her accomplishments. The deadline for senior ad submission is Friday October 31st. The group would be responsible for establishing a group coordinator who will collect all the pictures, money and words for the page and create it online by the deadline. There are a limited number of ad pages. Ads will be accepted until the pages are full on a first come first serve basis. Senior group ads do NOT have to be done online.
