LBMS Cheer Program Summary This tryout packet contains information pertaining to the Luther Middle School Cheerleading Program. The LBMS Cheer Team is made up of dedicated and enthusiastic athletes. Athletes must be willing to devote a significant amount of time to be part of a program that strives to be their best at home, at school, and on the cheer mat. Coach Jenn has extensive experience coaching cheerleading, she is dedicated to excellence, both athletic and academic. Your child s education and cheer experience is of the utmost importance to her, and she is dedicated to helping your child have a successful middle school career. The cheerleading program will consist of one Show Cheer Competition team. The size of the team depends on the talent level presented at tryouts. The objective of the Luther Burbank Middle School cheerleading squad is to effectively execute a school spirit program that supports and promotes Luther Burbank Middle School. The Cheerleaders will serve as positive role models and leaders for LBMS and should promote sportsmanship within our school and among other schools at competitions. The highest priority should be to display and encourage spirit and pride for LBMS.

LMBS Cheerleading Attendance Guidelines Cheerleading is a unique sport, wherein the absence of one team member affects the entire squad. Absences may lead to loss of participation, and ultimately dismissal from the squad. We cannot emphasize enough the importance of attendance. Planning family activities/vacations around our season is important. * Each squad member is expected to be present at all practices, fundraisers, and competitions. You will be excused only if you are absent from school due to an illness or a family emergency. If you are injured, you are still expected to attend practice, even if that means you can only watch. All appointments (doctor, dentist, etc.) should be scheduled outside of practice. Monthly practice schedules will be available. If you miss a practice due to an illness or family emergency, you are responsible for learning the material taught at that practice before the next practice. *Competitions are typically on weekends and are planned to be scheduled as follows: One in December, Two to Four in January and February, and One in March. This is tentative and subject to change. Please note we are usually scheduled to attend a showcase or competition on the President s Weekend in February. Please do not schedule to be out of town. *At times, if enough notice is given, squad members may be excused for other LBMS activities. This is at the coach s discretion. If you are excused from a practice you are responsible for learning the material taught at that practice before the next practice. * You are expected to be in the gym, dressed and ready to go at the scheduled practice or meeting time. *Two unexcused absences are considered a warning; the third unexcused absence will result in the athlete sitting out for one squad event in full uniform. After the third absence it is up to the coach and faculty advisor if athlete is to remain on the team. Cheerleader Signature Date Parent Signature Date
LBMS Estimated Costs Estimated Costs Uniforms are ordered from Varsity Spirit Fashion, the leading cheer apparel company. There will be fundraising opportunities to reduce the costs; however cheerleading is an expensive sport. This is an optional extracurricular activity and the uniform, competitions, choreography and supplies are all paid for by the organization. School funding is not used for these activities. Fundraising and parent support are important, which is why all cheerleaders need to participate. Donation requests and fundraisers will be implemented to help offset the cost to the program. There will also be options for cheerleaders who would like to borrow a uniform. This means that the team will buy a uniform that is not personalized and they cheerleader will return it at the end of the season. Please discuss with the faculty advisor if you are interested in fundraising options to support the overall cost to the program. We do not discriminate for financial reasons. Uniform Mandatory: shell, skirt, bow, shoes, jacket Optional: backpack, warm up pants Anticipated Costs Per Participant Subject to change $ $ Fundraising options are available if you wish to purchase and personalize the uniform Choreography / Music $ Donations requested Competitions $75.00 Donations requested Practice wear & Miscellaneous items (poms, signs, other squad needs) $140 Donations requested Tumbling Classes $64.50 Optional Class offered through Fun N Fit Gymnastics Nationals $ Donations requested Parent Signature Date
LBMS Cheerleader Agreement Expected Behavior All cheer and Luther Middle School guidelines must be followed at all times. Consequences will be issued for misbehavior or poor conduct Promote a positive image for the school community your peers, parents, teachers, and community members While representing LBMS, cheerleaders must not: Drink alcoholic beverages Use controlled substances Use tobacco products Show unsportsmanlike conduct Use profanity Put anything inappropriate on social media No drama, bullying or talking bad about teammates Show displays of affection Be academically dishonest Cheerleaders must wear the designated uniform or cheer gear to school on the day of the coach s choosing. Attend all practices and competitions. Your attitude and ability to work with other different personalities must be exceptional. Lying or fabricating the truth will not be tolerated and can result in immediate termination from the squad. Part of a coach s job is to know where you are at all times during practices, competitions, and special events. Cheerleaders cannot wear or loan LBMS cheerleading uniforms/outfits when attending non-cheerleading activities. All official cheerleading decisions and activities will be made by the coaching staff. All coaches and captains are to be given respect and cooperation by cheerleaders and parents at all times. Lack of respect Consequences will be issued for failure to follow the coach s direction or to stay in assigned areas during events. While safety is our number one goal, please understand that you should expect bumps, bruises, and other occasional minor injuries. This is all part of cheerleading. Any cheerleader leaving the squad or being asked to leave for ANY reason before the end of the season, will forfeit ALL money. Practices Squads will have practices each week. A tentative schedule will be given out at the beginning of each month. Cheerleaders are expected to come to ALL PRACTICES, and other schedules should revolve around cheerleading practices. Additional practices may be added when needed. During Practice season, practices are usually held on Tuesdays 2:30-5:30 and Thursdays 3:30-5:30.
During Competition weeks practices will be held every day. Usually right after school but there is a possibility of night time or before school practices. Practices can be added at any time by the coach and should be attended by all cheerleaders. NO cell phones during practice NO other drinks besides water NO eating during practice unless medically necessary with note from Dr. All cheerleaders must follow practice dress attire: Team Shirt Team Shorts Athletic shoes NO Jewelry Hair up in a pony tail * Complete uniform includes sports bra, hair bow, white socks, shoes, hair pulled up, no jewelry, glitter, or fingernail polish. Your nails must be trimmed short, and no acrylic nails or tips will be worn during the season. I am interested in being a cheerleader at Luther Burbank Middle School. I understand the risks stated above. If selected, I promise to abide by the Luther Burbank school code and the rules and expectations as dictated on this page. I promise to cooperate and follow the instructions of the coach and to display positive school spirit at all times. Student Signature Date PARENT AGREEMENT I understand and will support my child following the Cheerleader Agreement. I also understand the importance of attendance. As a parent I must be respectful of the coach, cheerleaders, fellow parents and LBMS staff. I will support team fundraising events and competitions by having my child participate. I understand that failure to follow school district rules or by being disrespectful my child may be removed from the program. Parent Signature Date
