5 Burris Middle School Families, Pope John Paul and Burris middle schools will once again be collaborating in the attempt to offer the students of both schools more opportunities for athletic involvement. For the season, St. Mary s students will be joining the Burris cross country teams, and the Burris students will be given the opportunity to join the PJP soccer and swim teams. To participate with PJP in either soccer or swimming, Burris students should consult your school's athletic handbook for academic and athletic eligibility requirements. Athletic participation requirements for Burris students will be in effect for participation with PJP/Burris teams. Schedules will be available at the beginning of the school year. The soccer season starts in September and is open to both boys and girls. The PJP/Burris team will play an eight game season against area Christian and Home School teams. The Burris/PJP cross country team will have a call-out meeting on August 18, in room 115 in Burris. Practice will begin on August 22, with meets beginning in September. The team is open to boys and girls. There must be at least 5 boys and 5 girls participating in order to continue with this team. The PJP/Burris swim team season begins in January. This is also open to boys and girls. This is open to grade 5 students also for swimming. 6 TO ALL PROSPECTIVE PARTICIPANTS IN ATHLETICS FOR in GRADES 5-12 Grades 4, 5: In order to participate in athletics at Burris, you MUST have either: 1. an official IHSAA physical, done after April 1, 2011, on file in the athletic office, or 2. a medical card on file in the nurse s office, with a copy given to the Athletic Director, which specifically states you are cleared to participate in athletics on the back, item #21. Grades 6-12: You must have an official IHSAA physical, done after April 1, 2011 on file in the athletic office prior to the first day of practice for your sport. Athletic Physicals: Sports physicals must be in the Athletic Office before you will be allowed to practice the first time for any sport. Fall Sports: The first day of official practice for most HIGH SCHOOL teams will be Monday, August 1, Middle school volleyball (8 TH GRADE) will begin on August 8. Middle school volleyball (6 TH and 7 TH GRADES) will begin on Monday, August 18. A Middle school cheerleader clinic will be held during the second week of school with actual tryouts to be held the following week. Middle school cross country will begin practice on Monday, August 18.
