1 May 1, 2018 Lily Lake Grade School Newsletter Preparing for Each year during the months of April and May the school staff begins the very important job of placing students in classrooms for the next school year. Much effort and time is put into the process in order to provide a placement in which each child will learn to the best of his/her abilities. Our staff works to create well balanced classroom instructional groups through a process incorporating many factors including levels of academic ability, performance in reading and math, class size, learning styles, study skills, and social relationships. Also taken into consideration are gender ratio and teaching style. Because of our need to balance classrooms in terms of all these and other factors, we are unable to honor parent requests with respect to specific teachers and classmates. The teachers that have worked directly with your children understand each child s unique needs within the school environment and will be involved in the placement process. The goal is to create classroom groupings in which opportunities for student achievement are maximized. We value academic as well as personal growth for each child and strive to maintain a classroom setting in which this occurs. Our ability to achieve these goals is only enhanced by your support. We appreciate your support and understanding in this process. Students will be notified of classroom assignment prior to school starting in August. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding. Lily Lake Centennial Community Fair Sunday, June 10th from 1:00-5:00pm on the grounds of LL Grade School we will be celebrating a hundred years! Please join us for an open house, picnic, games, music and fun! We will be selling centennial T-shirts, Highway Life T-shirts and enjoying time with family and friends! Historical artifacts will be set up in the gym and guided and self tours will be available for those who haven t visited our school in a while! Pre-orders for the T-shirts will be available for LL students and families. The 100 Year Committee is accepting donations from the community to help offset the cost of the event. A $ sponsorship will get the company logo on the back of 2 T-shirts and sponsorship announcements throughout the event. Donations will also be taken at the event to help purchase new playground equipment for the LL playground. Lily Lake Writing Contest Entries are due May 16th! The staff is so excited to read all of your original stories! Parents will have an opportunity to read them on May 24th after the End of Year PE Celebration from 11:45-12:10 pm in the library! Winners will be announced at the all school student assembly on June 1st!

4 May 1, 2018 Lily Lake Grade School Newsletter A Note from Ms. Jurs on Social Media Safety With the digital age here, more and more students at younger and younger ages are getting onto social media apps. As the building principal and district safety coordinator I feel it is important that parents keep up on the newest apps out there and what they really offer. Many students freely sign up for apps and hop onto social media with little thought as to the safety ramifications that could occur as a result. I am a parent of a teenager and have found that becoming informed and working with my child to ensure her safety has resulted in much better communication and her even asking me questions as to if a new app is safe, or not. It is important to understand what permissions a child is granting the app and whether or not it tracks their location. It is imperative that we adults monitor their activity and know who they are talking to, friending and reaching out to online! I have found a free online parent resource that I would like to share with all of you! This resource has helped me navigate the many social media apps out there, have a better understanding of their capability and also lets me know the research behind what is deemed as safe or unsafe. Ultimately it is our job as parents to be the watchdog for our children and help give them safety strategies to navigate the larger social media world, but this resource is a step in educating me on the latest/greatest the kids find out about. The name of the resource is: SmartSocial.com This resource offers parent universities that can be viewed with your child, U-tube videos on apps and if they are recommend for children, or not as well as other resources. Please consider looking into this resource, or others as we move into the summer months! There will be a parent university coming up on May 30th on social media. Look for more information to come out from the district on this event. 15 Panther Field - 12N571 Burlington Rd The Central Youth Football and Cheer League is an all-volunteer non-profit organization dedicated to serving the community of Central District 301. We are the feeder program for the Central High School Rockets. Our goal is to teach the fundamental terminology, skills, and life-lessons that align with Rocket football and cheer philosophies, and to prepare our athletes for success on and off the field! FLAG FOOTBALL CHEER TACKLE FOOTBALL (Grades K-1) Kick-off your career with the Panthers! Our Flag program is aimed at improving balance, hand-eye coordination and motor skill development. Players will learn basics of the game including offensive and defensive awareness with an emphasis on running with the ball. Teachable moments, sportsmanship and developing a love of the game through self-confidence while having fun is our desired outcome! Practices and Games Practices will be held at Panther Field twice a week from 6-7:30 pm, starting in August. Our teams compete against other in-house teams, with one weekly game scheduled from 6-7:30 pm at Panther Field. The program consists of eight games which commence after several practice sessions. Cross-Over Clinics Periodically throughout the season, our Tackle Football teams will provide mentoring sessions with our Flag players to help integrate the programs and inspire the younger player to reach the level of tackle football. Registration Fee: $120 (Includes personalized jersey to keep) Flag (K-1), Tackle (Grades 2-6) Join the Panther Cheer squad! Our cheer program is designed to align with middle and high school cheer. Both programs focus on sideline cheer and halftime routines, culminating in a season-end competition through the Illinois Recreational Cheerleading Association (IRCA). Practices and Games Practices will be held at Central Middle School twice a week from 6-7:30pm starting the last Monday of July. Flag squads end at 7:00pm. Flag football cheerleaders (Grades K-1) cheer for our in-house Flag Football teams during the week, while cheerleaders in Grades 2-6 travel on Saturdays with our tackle football teams. Clinics and Competition Cheer clinics will be included throughout the season for a chance to learn and develop new performance skills. Cheer squads participate in one competition hosted by the IRCA, for an opportunity to showcase their skills within cheer, dance, stunting and tumbling. Registration Fee: $ (Includes uniform rental; Bow, spanx, socks & personalized jacket to keep) (Grades 2-6) Contact! Our tackle football program is designed to prepare young athletes for District 301 middle school and high school football. Through collaboration with our High School program, we implement common football terminologies, strategies, and philosophy. We are very excited to be aligned with the Northern Illinois Football Conference (nifcfootball.org) for 2018, who shares our philosophy of fun, safe, and competitive football within a conference that is all about the kids. Practices and Games Practices will be held at Panther Field 3-4 days/week from 6-8 pm, starting the last Monday of July, with a maximum of 3/week when school begins. The season consists of two scrimmages and eight regular season Saturday games, plus playoffs (for qualifying teams), ending in October. Football Clinics CYFL and Central High School host conditioning camps to prepare the boys for the season. Please see the CYFL website for upcoming details.
