1 October 28, 2013 Weekly Newsletter Volume 2, Edition 7 Newsletter Elementary Department News Buster the Bus! Pumpkin Patch We all headed out to Bauman s Farm on a beautiful, warm, sunny day! We learned how to make apple cider compressed from their big machines. We had fun visiting the animal farm, hayrides, picking pumpkins and the students had fun finding their way out of the haystack maze. Buster the Bus! It was wonderful to see this cute Buster the Bus. The elementary students learned a lot about Safety. Look before crossing the street, no horse-playing on the bus. Students learned how to show respect, to be responsible and safe on the bust at all time! Buster is the best instructor for the students! Thanks Buster you are the best! Students at Bauman s Farm We had lunch and played in the big funny farm area. We review what we learned, make a photo album, and label everything about the things we learned on the trip! By Greg Coughlan K-2 Teacher Deaf Exp 2013 Six HS students, Kivo and Sharla Jones SJ went up bright and early last Saturday to run a booth advertising our Nightmare Factory and chat with people about our school and various programs. 2 October 28, 2013 Weekly Newsletter Volume 2, Edition 7 Stuffed Animals Needed Bill Crusicial s video classes are in need of some large stuffed animals, the larger the better, for props. Donations gladly accepted. Athletics Middle School Soccer Students talks to Deaf Expo visitors about OSD and Nightmare Factory One student we brought was reminiscing himself about how two years ago he and his mother had come to Deaf Expo to meet other Deaf people, saw our booth and asked some questions, and shortly after transferred to OSD as a student! He fondly remembers Deaf Expo in this way. Several thousand people were there what an amazing event to witness. There were lectures form Joel Barrish, who produces No Barriers, and Mark Hammill, a Deaf athlete with an autobiographical movie lots of fun! We were proud to promote our annual event, meet with old friends and make new ones! By Sharla Jones - Director Newly Minted DAB STORE The OSD team for the Deaf Academic Bowl just opened a store selling school supplies for the students. The DAB Store is located at the High School hallway intersection. Precisely, Northeast side corner. The store is open only during the morning breaks. Monday-Thursday - 10:25-10:32am Friday/Last Weekday - 9:55-10:05am Butte Creek got the best of us, 1-8. OSD ends up with a record for the season. I want to give a shout out to the athletes on the team for a GREAT, fun-filled season! I also want to recognize and thank our 8th graders for leading the team - they won't be returning next year, being in high school by then. For the returners, we look forward to another great season. High School Volleyball OSD won by a narrow margin, taking 2 out of 3, vs. WSD at home WSD OSD (tie-breaker) OSD Record: 4 8 Congratulations to the team and to the Seniors who played their last game! To the Seniors - thank you for your commitment and dedication to the team. We've watched some of you since middle-school, setting the way and leading the team. We will miss you, but know you will do GREAT in whatever you choose to do! HS Football Page 2
3 October 28, 2013 Weekly Newsletter Volume 2, Edition 7 Despite a considerable lead at halftime by Jewell, our boys showed HEART by continuing to play hard and complete the game. The game ended up in favor of Jewell. To our Seniors on the team: THANK YOU for all you have done for the team! Your leadership and commitment to what you do will take you far in life. Record: 0 6 NEXT and LAST GAME of the Season, 10/30 AT Falls City. By Matthew Boyd - Principal Nightmare Factory Students, staff and many volunteers have been hard at work to prepare for the opening of the Nightmare Factory. Please come and support our students.
