1 Dear Parents and Girls, We are very excited to invite you to a new year of school spirit at the high school level. Being a part of our cheerleading program can and will provide many opportunities to be involved at Cleveland High in a very fun and important way! In the past seven years, we have made it possible to support our football, wrestling, and basketball teams at the Varsity and Junior Varsity levels while finding time to cheer at volleyball games, state tournaments, pep rallies, and participate in community service projects. The girls have performed at SEC football game halftimes, community events, and were invited to cheer in lieu of college cheerleaders at Vanderbilt University. Our squads will depend on the number and caliber of girls we have trying out. We highly support having a freshmen team, and if you ask former freshmen squad members and/or their parents, they will tell you the benefits pay off. Should we not have enough to make an entire team, we will consider making them members of our varsity team. Our varsity teams will be split into a Football/Wrestling and Basketball. However, both teams will participate in all three of our major sports, playoffs, etc. The end goal is to give the most support to our athletes and the athletic program. All squads perform when their teams are considered out of season to showcase our whole squad talents, which is always incredible. The number of girls we keep on each squad varies each year. Of course, there are costs associated with being on these squads, but we will strive to keep them to a reasonable amount, as well as to work out a payment plans to provide anyone the opportunity to join our squads. Camp is tentatively scheduled for the June 20 th 23 rd and UCA camp at TN Tech University will be July 19 th 22 nd. Camp is mandatory for to be on the squad. These dates will be finalized by our first mandatory parent meeting on May 16 th at 6:00pm in the CHS Library and at that time a $100 deposit will be due. Below are dates and times for clinic and try-outs. Each applicant is offered try-out material (cheer, chants, dance, and jumps, tumbling.). Our clinic will be different this year in that the material will be offered online the Monday prior to tryouts. The website/youtube channel will be distributed a week before. Any student not able to access the website will need to contact the coach prior to the tryout week. Wednesday we will meet the girls, go over tryout material and format. The clinic is not required, but highly recommended. All girls will be judged on their teacher recommendations, grades, ability, and skills in cheer, dance, and overall performance. The girls will not be allowed to participate without the waiver. Also, I have attached teacher recommendation forms that need to be filled out and returned to us by April 29 th. At least one recommendation must be from a core teacher (math, ELA, Science, or Social Studies) Teachers may send them via CCS pony or mail them directly to CHS. at the high school is a major commitment, but extremely rewarding. We have a great time supporting our teams, improving as a squad, and establishing lifelong skills and relationships. I acknowledge that during the specified times only, the students will be supervised by the participating adults, but will need to leave or be picked up from CHS at the conclusion of the clinic on time each day. I give permission for any medical attention necessary to be administered to my child, in the event of an accident, injury, etc., while participating in the clinic and try-outs for Cleveland High School.
