1 2064 East Grand Avenue, Lindenhurst, IL Fall 2018 Spring 2019 Classes start September 10 All dance classes are held in our state-of-the-art, fully equipped dance studios with integrated spring shock absorbent wood floors. Our curriculum is based on an entire school year which begins in September and continues through June. We begin the year instilling strong fundamentals and continuously build upon them throughout the year. Our season will culminate with our end-of-the-year showcase. The year is broken down into trimesters for tuition payments. Placement in class is subject to teacher s discretion. Our class sizes are limited to ensure the quality of instruction. Registrations are accepted on a first come, first served basis, and will be secured by tuition payment. Students must meet the age requirement by September 1st. Creative Movement (3 year olds) Thursday 5:00-5:45 A fun filled introduction to dance through rhythm exercises, stretching, and beginning ballet technique Ballet/Tap 1 (4 year olds) Saturday 9:00-10:00 am Ballet/Tap 1 (4 year olds) Wednesday 5:15-6:15 Ballet/Tap 2 (5 year olds) Monday 4:30-5:30 Ballet/Tap 3 (6-7 year olds) Thursday 5:45-6:45 Ballet/Tap 3 (6-7 year olds) Friday 4:15-5:15 Ballet/Tap/Jazz 4 (7 year olds - must have completed Ballet/Tap 3) Wednesday 4:00-5:15 Ballet/Tap/Jazz 4 (7 year olds - must have completed Ballet/Tap 3) Friday 6:00-7:15 Learn the foundation of dance, the poise and technique of ballet, and the rhythm and style of tap. Black tap shoes required. Intro Ballet/Jazz 1 (8 year olds) Friday 6:15-7:15 Ballet/Jazz 1 (8 year olds; must have completed Ballet/Tap/Jazz 4) Monday 5:30-6:30 Ballet/Jazz 1 (8 year olds; must have completed Ballet/Tap/Jazz 4) Thursday 4:00-5:00 Learn the foundation of dance with the technique of classical ballet combined with the upbeat style of Jazz. No t-shirts or baggy pants will be allowed in class. See specific class description for additional attire information. Male dancers: black tank or t-shirt, sweats, black shoes. Students not adhering to the dress requirements may not be allowed to participate in class. Class Day Time Traditional classical ballet classes consisting of barre, center, and allegro, with a strong emphasis placed on technique and terminology. Attire: leotard, tan tights and tan jazz shoes. Shorts or form fitting Capri length pants are allowed. Jazz 2 (must be enrolled in ballet) Wednesday 4:15-5:15 Jazz 3 (must be enrolled in ballet) Wednesday 8:15-9:15 Jazz Funk (Ages 9 & up) Fusion of traditional jazz and hip-hop. Attire: leotard, tan tights, black jazz shoes or jazz sneakers. Shorts or form fitting Capri length pants are allowed. Jazz Funk 1 Wednesday 4:30-5:15 Jazz Funk 1 Thursday 5:00-5:45 Jazz Funk 2 Tuesday 7:30-8:15 Jazz Funk 3 Wednesday 5:15-6:00 Jazz Funk 4 Tuesday 8:15-9:00 Lyrical (Ages 9 & up) A blend of the ballet, jazz and contemporary styles. A ballet class is required. Attire: leotard and tan convertible tights. Lyrical shoes optional. Shorts or form fitting Capri length pants are allowed. As dictated by the scene, aspects of theatre terminology, acting technique, stagecraft and theatre history will be explored. Focus will be on building self-confidence, honesty in acting, developing cultural awareness, and recognizing strengths. Attire: Black laceup jazz shoes. Film & Camera Acting Thursday 7:45-8:45 Learn the on-camera acting techniques needed for work in television and film. Students will work on film and television monologue(s). Class will incorporate script analysis, on-camera work, video playback, and commercial copy audition techniques. Attire: Black lace-up jazz shoes. Musical Theater / Voice (Ages 7 & up) Songs 1 (Ages 7yr & up) Tuesday 5:30-6:30 Songs 2 (Ages 9yr & up or by instructor approval)) Thursday 5:45-6:45 Songs 3 (Ages 10yr & up or by instructor approval)) Monday 4:30-5:30 Songs 3 (Ages 10yr & up or by instructor approval)) Saturday 9:00-10:00am SONGS is both an acting class and voice lesson for musical theatre performers. Students perform small ensemble songs, solos, and duets from favorite musicals and movies, focusing on stage presentation, vocal technique and styling, and acting in song. Attire: Black lace-up jazz shoes. Songs 4 (Ages 12yr & up or by instructor approval) Monday 5:30-6:30 Songs 5 (by instructor approval) Monday 7:30-8:30 Songs 6 (by instructor approval) Monday 6:30-7:30 SONGS 4, 5 & 6 will focus on all the elements of musical theatre (acting, singing and stylized movement) to create complete musical theater scenes. The class will touch on: acting styles, choreographic styles, scene work, solo, duet and ensemble singing, musical interpretation and stage presentation. Attire: Black Character Heels for Girls; Black Jazz Shoes for Boys Musical Theatre Dance 1 (ages 9yr & up) Thursday 6:45-7:30 Musical Theatre Dance 2 (Ages 13yr & up or by instructor approval) Thursday 8:30-9:30 Using jazz as a foundation and traditional theatre music and songs, focus is on creating characters and telling stories through dance. Attire: leotard, tan tights and black jazz shoes. Shorts or form fitting Capri length pants are allowed. Private Voice (by instructor approval) Dance Enhancements Dance Tricks (Ages 10yr & up) Saturday 1:00-2:00 A unique class designed to teach gymnastics inspired dance tricks. Perfect for lyrical, jazz and jazz funk students. Dance Strength (11yr & up) Tuesday 6:45-7:30 The perfect class to enhance your dance training. In this specialized class, dancers will execute exercises that create a stronger center and improve upper and lower body strength. Dance Company STEPS Dance Company is for students who enjoy working on choreography, sharing their love of performing with a broader audience, and enjoy being around others that feel the same way. Participation is by audition only. Company members will be enrolled in a weekly company class with performance opportunities throughout the year including a holiday show and dance competition. A separate company fee is required in addition to the class tuition time. Performing Company requires a total commitment to STEPS. Company members may not be enrolled simultaneously at another studio. Audition considerations must include the ability of consistent class attendance and participation in every performance.

Registration is for the entire season and closes Nov 1, Payment of registration fee reserves your placement in class.
