2 P a ge 2 Wildcat Weekly V olume 7: I ss u e 4 Go Wildcats Athletic Director: Robby Clark Palestine Athletics Volleyball The Ladycat Volleyball Varsity team traveled to Teague on Tuesday, September 11th and lost a tough game in 5 sets (25-23, 25-17, 20-25, 17-25, 11-15). Shayla Arthur had 13 kills, Gabby Moore added 7 kills and Ja'Bria Simmons and Destiny Mathews each had 6 kills. Ka'Zem Wood had 24 assists on the night and Katie Litynesky added 10 assists. Ke'Ondra White had 13 digs while Ka'Zem Wood and Savanna Harris each had 11 digs. The Ladycats will play Athens at home on Friday, September 14th beginning at 4:30 pm. Coach Janae Evans Cross Country The Varsity Boys Cross Country team won the UIL Region 3 Preview Meet on Saturday, September 8th. Top 5 runners for the Varsity squad were Michael Guzman in 5th place, Luis Rangel 14th place, Cristian Guzman 18th place, Grant Attaway 21st place, and Alexis Mendoza 25th place. The JV team won the Latexo Meet on Wednesday, September 12th. Junior High boys competed in their first meet of the year at Latexo, and won led by Andy Garcia s 1st place finish. Coach John Absalom The Varsity Girls Cross Country teams competed at two separate venues on Saturday, September 8 th. The team competed at the UIL Region III Preview Meet in Huntsville, TX. The team put a lot of effort in and fought hard till the end The Ladycats finished in 14th place, led by Izabel Simien, Yarizeth Garcia, Iris Chavez, Genesis Giron, and Jennifer Aguilar. This is a huge meet and the competition is fierce! it was a good experience for the girls as we keep working to get ready for the district meet. JV girls earned 1st place at the Grapeland Invitational meet. The team was led by Sarai Trejo who finished in 2nd place, followed by Maritza Ruiz in 3rd, Cristell Francia in 4th, and Brenda Trevino in 5th place. PJHS girls earned 2nd place at the Grapeland meet, led by Alliyah Estrada, who finished in 7th place, followed by Natalie Guillen in 8th, Kacey Danchak in 9th, Samantha Chaidez in 10th and Amy Rangel in 15th place. Coach Luis Hernandez. Cross Country Boys and Girls teams will compete at the Fairfield Invitational on Saturday, September 15th. Football The Varsity Football team fell short on Friday, September 7th, losing to the Jacksonville Indians Offensively, Tyler Gray scored on a reception from Christian Hutchinson, while Quentin Cook and Josh Williams each added one rushing touchdown. Kicker, Tony Guzman, contributed to the scoring by being perfect on PAT s. Defensively, Josh Williams, Quentin Cook, and Dejuan Ealy played outstanding on an overall very good defensive performance. will play their first home game of the season on Friday, September 14th. The Wildcats will take on the Rusk Eagles on Friday, September 14th at Wildcat Stadium. Coach Morgan Robinson The JV team beat the Rusk Eagles Quarterback, Caden Clark and the offensive line got the offense rolling with a 30 yard run for a score by Eddie Barnes and a PAT added by Adrian Olivera. The JV team will travel to Fairfield to play the Eagles on Thursday, September 20th at 6:30 pm. Coach Darold Turner The Freshman team cruised to a 34-0 victory over Quitman on Thursday, September 13th. The team competed well on both side of the football and showed great discipline in their performance. Coach Randall Reeves Fall Tennis The Fall Tennis team defeated Mexia 10-5 on Thursday, September 13th in a rain-shortened district match. The Wildcats improve to 3-0 in district. The Wildcats had key wins from Alex Shiller, Seth Sheeley, Grant Shiller, Dominick Gonzales, Noel Pouncy, Monique Ybarra and Camryn Lupo. The Tennis teams will host Rusk on Thursday, September 20th. Coach Scott Tyler

3 P a ge 3 Wildcat Weekly V olume 7: I ss u e 4 Palestine High School Principal: Stephen Cooksey Students in Mrs. Naismith s class are making real world connections from the book Friday Night Lights by analyzing various learning environments. Palestine High School students are experimenting with mixture separation in Mrs. Lawson s Chemistry class. Mrs. Cearley s Theater Arts students are learning relaxation techniques studying body control and body awareness. Taking notes in Mrs. Magee s class Alexis Kiser and Adrian Villalobos spend time with their little buddies at Northside.

4 P a ge 4 Wildcat Weekly V olume 7: I ss u e 4 Palestine Junior High School Principal: Joseph Mason This week, I Have a Voice gave a presentation for Junior High girls. Mr. Hernandez s 7 th Grade Science class work on lab safety posters. Mrs. Vaugh s 8 th Grade Math Class did a Math Mad Lib activity while writing and solving equations with variables on both sides. Nicki Minaj might get abducted by aliens!!! Mrs. Henry s 7 th grade ELA classes work on their Pandora s Box Project.

Southside staff and students This is one example of the generous donations of school supplies from Kroger, First United Methodist Church, and Willow Creek Chiropractic Clinic. From the Southside staff and students, THANK YOU! GO GOLD for childhood cancer awareness.

Learning is happening in lots of different spaces. Mrs. King s Art class is creating beautiful designs using their names. Mrs. Moore s class enjoyed a special guest reader. Kindergarten and 1st grade are both working diligently on writing.
