Both have a long history in radio and sports announcement, and the duo has teamed up to bring Wildcat Football play-by-play to listeners each week via the internet Wildcat Nation Radio Station. Tune in at 7:25 pm for Wildcat Football! Constitution Day 2018 Students from PHS other schools in the community attended Constitution Day on September 18th in Austin, Texas. Many thanks to Judge Jim Parsons for providing this opportunity. Thank you also to PHS teachers, Kathleen Brown, and Jonathan Ryal, for traveling with the students to Austin. The Kiwanis Operation Read Pancake Breakfast raised $20,300 on Saturday, September 15th, by serving pancakes to 850 donors who came out to support the event. The funds will provide books for children in the Palestine Community Thank you to everyone who worked and thank you to everyone who came out for breakfast! 2 P a ge 2 Wildcat Weekly V olume 7: I ss u e 5 Go Wildcats Athletic Director: Robby Clark Palestine Athletics Volleyball The Ladycat Volleyball team swept Athens at home with wins from JVB, JV and V on Friday, September 14. Varsity won (25-16, 25-21, 25-18). Katie Litynesky had a huge night from the serving line with 9 aces. She generated 22 points from behind the serving line tonight! Shayla Arthur and Destiny Mathews led the offense with 6 kills a piece, they each had 3 stuff blocks. Ja'Bria Simmons added 5 kills. Ka'Zem Wood had 12 assists on the night and Ke'Ondra White led in digs with 7. The team will play Fairfield at home on Friday, September 21. Coach Janae Evans Cross Country The Boys Cross Country teams competed in the Fairfield Invitational and dominated the competition. The Varsity Boys had a perfect score of 15 and finished with all 7 runners finishing in 1st-7th place. Michael Guzman was 1st, Luis Rangel 2nd, Cristian Guzman 3rd, Alexis Mendoza 4th, Daniel Sanchez 5th, Grant Attaway 6th and Garrett Bowden 7th place. The top 6 runners ran the 3 mile course in 17 minute range. JV boys also dominated the competition with another perfect score and earned the top 20 places. Michael Chaidez 1st, Jonathan Sanchez 2nd, Luis Castillo 3rd, Jose Sanchez 4th and Armando Gante was 5th place. Junior High boys traveled to Fairfield High School to compete in their second meet of the season and finished in 1st place, led by Andy Garcia, Anthony Garcia, Ricoh Avila, Alex Garcia, and Jalbert Sandoval. Coach John Absalom The Varsity Girls Cross Country teams competed at the Fairfield Invitational on Saturday, September 15th. The team put in a lot of effort finished in 3rd place, and defeated their district opponent, Madisonville. The Varsity Ladycats were led by Izabel Simien, Yarizeth Garcia, Iris Chavez, Karina Gutierrez, and Caitlyn Martinez. The JV team finished in 2nd place led by Lauren Rocha who finished in 6th place, followed by Anahi Hernandez, Rylie Moore, Jennifer Rodriguez, and Emma Bennett. PJHS girls finished in 3rd place led by Emerith Hernandez, who finished in 4th place, followed by Natalie Guillen, Samantha Chaidez, Celeste Lara, and Amy Rangel. Coach Luis Hernandez. Cross Country will host the Dogwood Invitational on Saturday, September 22nd at A.M. Story Intermediate. Football The Varsity Football team defeated Rusk on Friday, September 14 at the home opener for the Wildcats. The Wildcats improved to 1-2 on the season. The team pulled together in a hard fought game to prevail. Offensively, Tyler Gray passed for 233 yards and 3 touchdowns. Marquis Thompson had 74 yards receiving and one touchdown, and Tre Calhoun added another 48 yards receiving and two touchdowns. Josh Williams and Quintin Cook played very well defensively, with Gary Reeves adding an interception to the defensive effort. Dejaun Ealy, Elvin Calhoun, and Camron Spurlock each stepped up in a great way to contribute to the team victory. The JV team competed in another challenging game on the road Thursday night. The Wildcats overcame some errors to win the game against the Fairfield Eagles 21 to 14. Special Teams played well with Tawalan Cook scoring on a 75 yard kick return. Adrian Olivera added two PATs for the night. Cagen Clark and the offensive line got the offense clicking with a 15 yard touchdown pass to Tawalan Cook and a 48 yard touchdown pass to Chris Bryant. Jakerian Lockett was the outstanding defensive player of the night with multiples tackles. The JV Wildcats are now 4-0. The Wildcats will host Crandall Pirates on Thursday (September 27) at 6:30 p.m. Coach Darold Turner The Freshman team brought home the win last night with a 14 to 6 victory. The defense was the show of the night with 3 forced turnovers in 4 total drives. Corbin Hughes and J'Corey Jackson both had big interceptions and Quan'Tae Gage had a forced fumble recovery. Offensively, De'Myzjean Martin was a key player with a 40 yard touchdown run and a 30 yard touchdown pass to Hughes. Gage also provided a 2 point conversion run. The Freshman Wildcats will host Crandall on Thursday (September 27) with a B game starting at 4:30 and the freshman A game following. Coach Randall Reeves Fall Tennis The Palestine Fall Tennis team blanked Rusk 19-0 Thursday night to move to 4-0 in district play. Aven Alexander and Hallie Calhoun got their first win in girls doubles and Deshaun Kelley got his first win in singles. Everyone on the team contributed to the win. The tennis team has two more district matches this season, on Thursday, September 27 at Madisonville and the following Thursday, October 4 at home against Mexia. Coach Scott Tyler

4 Page 4 Wildcat Weekly Volume 7: Issue 5 Palestine Junior High School Principal: Joseph Mason The PJHS Cross Country Teams are off to a fantastic start to the season. Their most recent wins came from a takeover at the Fairfield Invitational on Saturday, September 15th. Mrs. Santone s Theater Arts classes work on some performance exercises as they take in the fresh air. The Junior High is busy this week preparing for the big Homecoming game against Fairfield.

5 P a ge 5 Wildcat Weekly V olume 7: I ss u e 5 A.M. Story Intermediate Principal: Jaime Clark 4 th Grader Aiden Jackson designed an awesome comic book on his own at home. Aiden had read Captain Underpants and the Attack of the Talking Toilets. The Palestine Herald Press came and interviewed Aiden last week. Aiden s comic book is on display at Story. Great job Aiden!! Genius Hour Mrs. Bell s Music class learning about dynamics. (Softest to loudest) using Kagan Line Ups. Also, they were reviewing Story Expectations using Kagan Structures strategies, Stand Up, Hand Up, Pair Up and Quiz Quiz Trade. Crazy Sock Day Western Day kicked off Homecoming Week Jeff Atkinson of Kiwanis International presents Amy Moore with a cooler she won at the Operation Read fundraiser. Thanks to all the Northside staff, students, and parents who participated in this event.

Students and parents had a great time creating homecoming mums as well as life long memories at the Southside Family Mum Making Event. There were so many beautiful mums and garters created. We like to grow our own vegetables. Southside students are ready for homecoming. GO WILDCATS!!
