Admission is free. Mentoring students - your signed journals and final papers are due to Mr. Murphy in room 1202 this week. Co-Op students - your 6th and final evaluation is due to Mr. Murphy this week. FBI Youth Leadership Academy (YLA): The Summer YLA is an educational experience that provides students with valuable leadership training and a greater understanding of the FBI. Through experiential learning activities, students will develop skills in communication, trust, team work, goal setting and leadership. This residential event hosted at Bradford Woods, Indiana University s experiential learning center located just south of Mooresville, starts July 13 at 9:00 a.m. and ends July 15 at 11:00 a.m... Participants must: be current Juniors (member of the graduating class of 2017); have a GPA of at least 3.0; possess qualities of leadership, scholastic achievement and good citizenship; and commit to attending the entire three day program. If interested, visit Mr. Frederick (room 1224) to receive an application. The application includes a 500 word essay in which the applicant must depict his/her interest in the program and how it will enhance his/her future plans. Applications must be mailed and received by Friday, April 1, Twenty students from across the state will be selected to participate by the FBI Citizens Academy Alumni Association. There is no cost for students to participate; lodging and all meals are included. Students must arrange their own transportation if selected. Senior Seminar Students: Your two 2nd trimester assignments are due to Mrs. Ellis (rm 1448) no later than Wednesday, March 2nd. REMINDER: The Testing Center is open from 2:50 4:30 pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays through the end of the trimester. Senior Seminar, Co-op, Mentoring and Internship students may test during 1 st or 5 th period (beginning during D lunch) on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays as well. Be sure you have made arrangements for a ride you may not be able to complete your assessment by the late bus bell. Please also be sure you have a PICTURE ID for check in. Meet in the Band Area at 6:15. It is Senior Night for the band, cheerleaders, and team. Seniors need to turn in their forms to the athletic office ASAP! Seniors and their parents will be recognized between the JV and Varsity games (around 7pm). Can you do the Hammer Dance, Carlton, or Macarena? Or do you love dancing to classic 90s songs like "Hit Me Baby One More Time" and "Vogue?" Come to the informational meeting for American Pie dancers Thursday, February 25th during 6th period in Mr. Ewing's room (1444). If you can't make it or have questions talk to Megan Jones, Hannah Young, or Mr. Frederick (room 1224). You're invited to a Latin dance lesson on February 23rd during 6th period, hosted by Spanish Club! Come join us in the LGI for dancing, snacks, and fun! We will be learning bachata, cumbia, and merengue. See you then!

3 Food and Film Club: We had a very successful first trimester in Food and Film Club. We watched "La Bamba" and ate several different Mexican dishes. We will start anew on a different day. We will now meet on Thursdays, with our first meeting being Thursday Feb 25th. We will meet every other Thursday and the cost is 4 dollars. We will be watching "The Color Purple" and eating soul food. You may bring your own food and drinks too if you like. Hope to see you all there! ATHLETICS: BOYS VARSITY SWIMMING: The Men's Swim Team turned in great performances at the IHSAA Sectional Championships on Saturday. The team qualified all three relays for State--Tab Kenney, Chris Kenney, Alex Hand, Ethan Moe, Cody Fenimore, and Nick Brauer all contributed to those State-qualifying efforts. In addition, Chris Kenney qualified to represent WHS at the State meet in the 100 Freestyle. In the 11-dive event, Jordan Loeser not only moved on to the Regional championship, but set a new school record in the process! Ben Higgins also earned a top four finish in diving, and will be joining Jordan at the Regional competition. Brett Calvin, Michael Peck, and Lucas Irvine also fought for top-8 finishes in the meet. Well done--and good luck at Regionals and State! BOYS VARSITY BASKETBALL: The Rocks won at New Castle 48 to 42 on Friday night. Facing a two point deficit heading into the fourth quarter, the Rocks took the lead early on and never looked back. The first quarter was led by senior Kyle Nicole who scored five points who also had seven assists with zero turnovers. Senior Charlie Warner led the Rocks in scoring with 12 points. Senior Robbie Lynch added 11 points. Junior Ian Kristensen was just shy of a double-double with nine points and eight rebounds. With the win at New Castle, the Rocks picked up their tenth win of the season. This was the seventh road opponent that the Rocks have defeated this season, the biggest total since The Rocks are back in action on Tuesday for Senior Night against Mount Vernon. Are you ready for some VOLLEYBALL? Student Impact Volleyball Registration will be in the cafeteria during all lunches starting Tuesday, February 16 th and ending Thursday, March 3 rd. Players must be in 9-12th grade and able to attend a Westfield Washington School, but can be home schooled or in private school to play. The fee is $50 per player. Evaluations are March 3rd at 7pm in the MPIF. Each night will be a practice for one hour and games for one hour on the following dates starting at 6:30pm: March 8, March 15, March 22, March 24, March 29, April 12, April 14, April 19, April 21, April 26 and the tournament on April 28. 4 SCHOOL COUNSELING CENTER: Military Academy Day at WHS! Students in grades 9-11 and their parents are invited to attend Military Academy Day on Thursday, February 25th during 5th period (1:30-3:00). Learn about the nominating process and hear from representatives from the academies. If parents are unable to attend, all info will be posted to the WHS Counseling Center website after the presentation. Students MUST register in Naviance in order to attend. The following College Visits are during 6 th period and open to any student in grades 9-12; 11 th & 12 th graders please sign up in Naviance: Indiana University Kokomo Feb. 24 th IUPUI March 29 th During the day on March 16th, WHS will host our Spring Shamrock Rep Day during 3rd period open to sophomores and juniors. More details to come! On the evening of March 16 th, students have an opportunity to take advantage of the Greater Indianapolis Northside College Fair to be held at the Ritz Charles in Carmel from 6:30-8:00 p.m. The event is sponsored by a consortium of high schools on Indy s Northside as a way to provide access to college information for local students. Over 100 colleges/universities will be represented at the fair! The event is free, and students in all grade levels are welcome to attend. PARENTS: There will be a PTO Coffee with Dr. McGuire on Tuesday, March 29 th from 8 9am in the Learning Center. Please check in at the front desk. Great News! This award honors Westfield High School alumni whose deeds and character exemplify outstanding achievement in their life s work and/or service to their communities. An honoree s spirit and leadership are worthy of recognition and have inspired praise and gratitude among his or her peers. The application deadline is March 15, 2016, and the Hall of Fame recipient will be honored at the spring WHS Seniors Award Night at the close of the school year.
