1 The Shops at Traders Village, Romulus NY We have HUGE plans for our 1st Annual Currier & Ives Festival. Equestrian Parade, Caroling Competition, Sleigh Rides, Nativity Play, Christmas Tree Lighting, etc. We have obtained permission from the Currier & Ives Foundation to use their name and artwork and will do reenactments of scenes from their prints; dress in period costumes, and become THE Christmas Attraction of the Finger Lakes. (Think Renaissance Festival in Sterling, or Dickens Festival in Skaneateles) Since the undertaking is a big one, it will take time to get established. This Christmas we will focus on the parade, the reenactments, costumes, sleigh rides, and nativity. We welcome vendors and local residents to be involved in whatever capacity you wish. 2 Christmas Parade The Christmas Parade will be traditional and geared toward the 19 th Century. Therefore, there will be no automobiles, casual clothing, motorized floats, etc. The challenge will be to research historical parades and get ideas. As for the marchers and bands, all will be in uniforms and inspected prior to Parade day. Marching in formation (military style) will be required (no walking) Free training for marching in unison will be available. If there is a problem with uniforms or fit, we will see to it that proper uniforms are provided/tailored, etc. The Annul Christmas Parade will be a source of pride for our community; thus, all entrants will be screened beforehand. Marchers and Marching Bands may form their own squads not necessarily representing their schools, but representing their community, church, or business. Of course, each entry will be judged creating some healthy competition. See contact information below for further clarification. 4 NEWSPAPER : The newspaper will consist of student-written articles and news for the late 1800 s. History teachers may use this as a lesson plan, English teachers may use this as a writing/editing project. All entries and articles are welcome. Currier and Ives lithographs are encouraged. Paper boys in period costume will distribute the paper to patrons at the Festival. Paper boy 1 Paper boy 2 Teachers to lead assignment of articles * See Gina Thomas about costumes South Seneca Shopper on board? Nativity Play: This will be the grand finale of our event. No sound systems or special lighting, no stage. This play will take place on the corner porch between the two buildings. A manger/stable with real animals, bales of hay, and the youngest elementary kids we can put together. This should be darling, endearing, traditional, and heartwarming for all to see! Team Leader The team leader on the Nativity play will coordinate the teachers, students, parents, set builders, costume makers, farm animals, etc., overseeing the planning and production of the play. Drama Assistant: 1 Costume Leader: Gina Thomas For the Play we need: 2 goats (or sheep) (name/owner) A donkey Pony/horse(s) Hay Bales Roles: Narrator (Reads Christmas story from Luke s Gospel) Peter Arena Mary Mia McGraw Joseph Angel Brie McGraw Shepherd and A Great company of Heavenly Host singing Glory to God in the Highest (Holy Cross Catholic Church Choir)

5 We need YOU! This event cannot happen without lots of people getting excited and seeing it come to pass. In future years, we will be doing reenactments, winter activities, and much much more!
