3 Celebrate MODC s 65 th Anniversary with a FUNdraising Event We encouraged everyone to celebrate March of Dimes Canada s 65 th Anniversary by holding a fundraising event at your office, organization or a gathering of your friends and share MODC moments on social media using the hashtag #MODC65. Register Your Events Be part of our special year long celebration by registering your activity with March of Dimes Canada National Office. By sharing your planned activity, we can help to connect you with others engaged in similar plans, suggest ideas to assist you, offer central services and products as they develop. Your activity will be listed on the intranet and in our annual anniversary calendar of events. Please Linda Yielding: lyielding@marchofdimes.ca or call x7290 FUNdraising ideas 1. MYMOD.ca On-Line Campaign We are encouraging everyone to join in supporting March of Dimes as an online canvasser this year. On line fundraising makes a difference... and it's really easy to do! Door-to-Door online fundraising is a great way to raise money, especially for people who don't like fundraising. Few types of fundraising can yield such a high return with so little time and effort. For more information go to 2. Awful Tie, Hat or Ugly Earring Contest All contestants pay $5 to enter the most awful earrings or most ugly ties they own, make or borrow. Place voting boxes at various places around your office and charge $1 per vote. Employees vote as many times as they want for their favorite. Have a final review of all entries offering last chance to vote at the end of the day. Circulate the names of the entrants the day before the event so employees can anticipate the voting. 3. Cycle or walk to work and put the money you would otherwise spend on transportation towards your fund - and reduce pollution at the same time! 4. Baby Picture Match Game Invite employees to try their luck matching baby and/or pet pictures of the management. Award the entry with the most right answers. Charge employees $2 per ballot. 5. The Cake Divide Bake or buy your cake, divide it into eight slices and sell them at a loonie a shot. You will win the undying love of your workmates. 6. Guess the weight of the cake or the number of sweets in the jar competition. Charge a loonie a guess and the winner receives a token prize. January
4 7. Pancake Challenge Shrove Tuesday, February 9, 2016 is PANCAKE CHALLENGE DAY! This is a great community event, have a local restaurant play host to a pancake breakfast and/or cook-off! Local media, celebrities and politicians would be a great fit to participate as well. Charge $5 for breakfast. 8. Local Retail Business s Round Up for MODC This is another great fundraiser that can partner MODC with businesses in your community. Approach selected retail stores, and ask them to offer shoppers the option to round up their purchases, during checkout benefiting MODC. A week or month long campaign would be most beneficial. 9. Community Partners BBQ Invite your local community partners to a BBQ. Invite local businesses, government agencies, or other non-profit organizations. Charge $5 above cost for a BBQ lunch. 10. Bakery Cart Wheel Take a cart of bagels, doughnuts, danishes, coffee and juice through the office, collecting Staff Campaign donations in exchange for the goodies. Price it to make money; maybe all the supplies donated by a local bakery. 11. Boss Cooks for You Have a special breakfast/lunch at which top Managers cook for all donors. Food is one of the best motivational tools to attract a big crowd. Tasty treats almost always bring smiles to those attending your event. Charge $5 for lunch or breakfast. 12. Coin War Each department has an empty water bottle (the BIG kind). Employees drop their spare dimes and nickels into the bottle. These coins are counted as positive. A quarter counts as a negative. Employees can sabotage another group s bottle by dropping a quarter. At the end of the campaign, both positive and negative coins are counted, and the group with the most $$$ wins. 13. Chili / Meat Balls Cook-Off Contest Employees cook their favorite chili recipe and enter it into a cook-off contest. Employees then vote by ballot for best of the best! Charge $5 14. Craft & Bake s Employees shop at a craft and / or bake sale! This popular activity gives everyone a chance to share their hobbies and special talents. All items are donated, and sales go to the campaign. 15. Employee Cookbook Collect recipes and helpful household hints into a customized cookbook. Employees children create illustrations for the cookbook, including the cover. If possible, print and bind books at a local business, pro bono. This event has been so popular that some organizations have not been able to fill requests. Plan for an enthusiastic response! You set the price. 16. Executive Chair Race Set up a relay course for executives to race through sitting on chairs or riding tricycles. Use a stopwatch to time contestants, with the fastest person winning a prize. Observers donate or wager $1 on their favorite contestants. January
5 17. Theme Lunches Add fun to campaign week by hosting a theme lunch such as 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s holiday themes, TV shows, sports, Renaissance etc. Charge a minimal fee. 18. Backyard/Parking Lot BBQ Determine costs of set-up. Set a sale price for the BBQ. Pre-sell tickets to the event. The event may also be set up as a potluck picnic with everyone bringing a dish to share. Items that need to be purchased include: paper products, meat fixings, buns, beverages, grill, lawn chairs, tables. Set up outside. You may wish to include Frisbee, music etc. as time and space allow. 19. International Food Day Employees team together to create tasty treats from around the world. Employees decorate their own booths/tables and dress in appropriate costumes. Hold the event over the lunch hour, allowing employees to purchase tickets redeemable for food at the booths. 20. Potpourri Luncheon Participating employees bring a hot dish, appetizer, salad, side, dessert etc. to be shared. Paper products are also needed for this event. There is no sign up for this event. Items brought in are completely random. Employees pay $5 to fill their plate and sample everything in the room. 21. Miniature Golf Build a nine-hole course featuring slinkies, ramps and water and sand traps around the office, laid out to test the skills of your employees. The lowest score (which may be decided by tie-breaker) will take home a tacky golf sport coat. Interested two-somes return an entry form, bring a putter the day of the event, and pay an appropriate entry fee: $20 Senior Management and $10 for all other staff. Do a blind draft mixing Senior Management with staff. Mix up the two-somes! January
