2nd Quarter Franklin Recess Reminders

Weather Lunch

Thank you for a great first quarter! Hello Franklin Flyers! We had a great first quarter with wonderful weather! Thank you all for doing a great job keeping our school rules in mind while out on the playground during recess! 1) Be Safe! 2) Be Respectful! 3) Be Responsible! As we head into the second quarter, with a new season there are some areas we need to work on to make our school a better place!

A Special Thank You! A special thanks to our fifth grade school leaders who have graciously offered to help set up our different stations prior to recess! From Mr. Greer s class: Emily, Moses, Arianna, and Avery From Mrs. Klemm s class: Markes, Adrian, Ella, and Kyleigh **Kickball** **Soccer** **Football** **4 Square** **Sidewalk Chalk** **Basketball** **Jump ropes and Hula Hoops** Each quarter Mr. Greer and Mrs. Klemm s class with be providing new student helpers to help make our recess a positive fun experience! Thank you!

Be Safe! Bucket lids are meant to be used for kickball or other game bases only! They are not to be thrown as frisbees! They are very heavy, and if they hit a student or another person could really hurt or injure someone! Keep hands to yourself and remember that golden rule, Treat Others the Way You Like to be Treated!

Be Respectful! At the end of recess, when your grade level or class is called, line up right away! Some groups are taking way too long and are needed way too many reminders! Lining up, does not mean grabbing recess equipment or playing for an additional 5 min. Walk equipment to the cart! Do not throw the equipment into the cart from a distance further than 3 feet! Failure to listen to staff may result in a level 1 write up or other avoidable consequence!

At the end of your recess time...pick up after yourself! Please return gym equipment to the appropriate station or back to the cart so other students can easily find what they are looking for. Again, a special thanks to Mr. Eliason s class and Mrs. S for picking up all recess equipment at the end of each day!

Jump Ropes Jump ropes are for jumping only! No tug of war or tying them to other outside equipment! Please keep jump ropes on the black top only! If playing helicopter, remember to keep the rope slow and low!

Remember to be Responsible for Your Belongings Please tie your coat or sweatshirt around your waist to avoid forgetting items outside. Each day we are putting way too many belongings in our Lost and Found. A special thanks to Mr. Eliason s class and Mrs. S for helping us pick up items left out on the playground each day!

Look in the Lost and Found for Any Missing Items Our Lost and Found is overflowing with many misplaced items. Each day we put all items left out on the playground in the lost and Found. Be sure to look there for any missing items before or after school! You may need those misplaced warm clothing items and your parents don t want to buy you new clothing, because it can be expensive. Be responsible with your belongings!

No Food or Snacks Allowed Please eat lunch and snacks in the cafeteria only! There are no garbage cans outside and many students are littering! Do your part to keep our school and playground looking nice! A special thanks to Mrs. Richardt and Mrs. Timmerman s student helpers, who have helped Mr. Gasner pick up on a regular basis!

New Stuck Inside Award Each day that we have inside recess due to inclement weather, a trophy will be given to the class who is demonstrating positive leadership. We will be looking for the class who is making constructive use of their time participating in appropriate indoor activities. We are looking for the class who is showing safe, respectful, and responsible decision making! If your class earns this award 5 times you will earn a class popcorn party!

Dress Appropriately For the Weather As we move into the winter months, please be sure to dress appropriately for the cold weather! Wear snowpants, boots, warm winter jackets, hat, and mittens! You must have snowpants and boots if you want to play on the snow hills! Stay warm and comfortable so you can enjoy the winter activities!

Sledding and Snow Hills No playing King of the Hill (No pushing or shoving!) Do not bring sleds from home! Sleds are to be shared! Sleds are assigned to a run on the hill...not to students! Take a turn and return the sled to the top of the hill for the next person. Only 1-2 people on a sled at a time. Feet first, and on your bottom or knees only! Be careful to quickly move out of the way and make sure the path is open and clear before going down the hill. Safety first! Once snow hills arrive...watch for more specific details sledding rules on the news!

No Play Fighting/Pokemon Battling We have had a lot of incidents regarding play fighting! What starts out as play often turns into a real fight! Staff cannot tell whether you are just playing or if it is real! Play fighting will result in you sitting by the wall for the entire recess time! Continued play fighting will result in a level 1 or 2 write up! Always keep hands and feet to self!

Featured Game of the Week Starting this week for 2nd quarter, every Wednesday we will be offering 2 different featured games of the week. 1 game will be geared toward K-2. 1 game will be geared toward 3-5. Please watch Wednesday morning news to learn more details about the featured game of the week!

Always Remember our School Rules 1) Be Safe 2) Be Respectful 3) Be Responsible Always keep these rules in mind, and we will all have a fun and enjoyable recess! Thanks again fellow Franklin Flyers!
